60 years old, working in Asia, been in 3 Asian countries over the course of 16 years. Work, obviously, keeping me here, my business partner and I have the kind of small legal business that we could not have in the US. Next biggest thing...health insurance. In the US, could only get work as a contractor, provide my own (expensive) health insurance. Not to mention the state of affairs in healthcare. Got cancer last year, diagnosis to surgery, two weeks. All paid for, not broke. One more year to permanent residence here, once I get that, I will always be able to live and work here, despite moving to other places. I will keep up my national health premiums. If there were Medicare for all, sure, could consider living in the US but now, no. Health insurance also plays out with age discrimination for jobs (especially with small firms) as premiums for folks over 50 have skyrocketed. So I didn't come overseas for a dream, more of a necessity. It didn't need to be like this. So sad for my country.

Your ability to see abundance and blessings for all gives you the ability to live anywhere in the world and thrive. You make many good points in your video and you have a gift for explaining complex topics simply which separates you from the other videos selling stuff. There is a cliche' phrase "Wherever you go, there you are" and I think about this often because everybody carries their mindset with them wherever they go....a.k.a. the problems you had at home will follow you abroad. I was very impressed by what a colleague told me one day at work describing another colleague : "They will have problems wherever they go"....referring to his complaining nature and inability to adapt to ideas outside of his comfort zone without verbally destroying the target of his discomfort rather than thinking about it from the other person's point of view.

High crime, high cost of living including medical and taxes are just a few reasons people leave the US. I’d never move south of the border. Choose your country wisely. I have been watching a lot of retire in the Philippines videos lately. Even a lot of the people I watch will tell you to have a Plan B (eg go back to the USA) should you run low on funds. Even if you are planning to “escape” the USA, find ways to make yourself happy until you do. That resourcefulness will aid you when you need it overseas, and you will most definitely need it at some point.

I have lived in four countries as the result of my work. I can say that most Americans are simply not prepared to make the kind of adjustments necessary to live successfully in a new environment. This is not surprising. Our country is an isolated continent, separated by two oceans, and travel is difficult and expensive, too expensive for most people. So naturally landing in some new place is going to be a traumatic adjustment, and it is not surprising that most Americans are not able to make it. Just the issue of foreign language learning. If you don't start when you are fairly young, you won't ever get very far in a new language. Fortunately I grew up speaking another language besides English, so learing a second and third language was not so difficult. I am glad this video is being posted, because all too many of my fellow Americans fantasize about the impossible.

Im an engineer many of the guys I've worked with retired to other countries, one lives in a 5 family home for him and his brothers in India they were sending money there to build they all retired at 50 just their kids here. Another Poland has a mind blowing ranch he bought for 200k and his wife runs a cafe on the water in town. two guy bought a spread in Mexico with their own air strip when they both got a divorce at the same tie pooled their money and the maid staff are their GF hot and young. thing is this its fine to live abroad but watch where your advice comes from many pushing the life style are tied to real estate people and are out to make profit some are honest and its just a side hussle others will sell you a disaster. Go there check it out rent a few months see if its you then talk to other expats or join a few groups see what are the plus and minus. many go on a wim are over welmed and return many dollars lighter.

How rents in Mexico are pretty high at $1200. Here in Colombia 🇨🇴 , tourism domestic tourism has gone down I think 26%, where foreign tourists has increased. That means the locals are raising prices because of foreigners for more income. Raising accommodations, and dining prices. I’d say most of that is caused by the locals. Some local benefit, most aren’t but people are making it seems like we are raising the prices. How many Americans would raise their accommodation price in the USA if they could retire 5 years earlier or have a few vacations a year. It’s human nature. I paid $1000 to ship 10 boxes. I used points to get a flight. Most don’t have a partner already to move in with. You are right. Airbnbs aren’t cheap. Most stuff I sold replaced my shipping cost. No immigration issues. I did make $600 selling my financed car thank goodness. Don’t stop what you’re yore doing. You are giving great advice, and information. I know I’m always seem like I’m going against you, I’m not, I’m just trying to add, good reasons to move. You have way more experience in South America than me. I hear a lot of negativity about moving or living abroad. As I recall there are those who are doing great there. But if you’re always listening to the negative, you will never understand how, or why. There are more places to move to that South America and Mexico with better infrastructures. As I believe, there has to be a greater benefit to moving abroad than staying. Going to find out without knowing, is a recipe for failure. Being able to enjoy a similar lifestyle should be on the list. It should be cheaper to do those things. Language should be learned, it should be cheaper, shouldn’t be for politics. I don’t have many friends I visited in the us. But one every now and then. I still talk to him over the phone while here. The apartment has 3 more bedrooms and 4 more bathrooms compared to my 1/1 I use to rent back home for half the cost. They actually have better malls here. It cost $10-$12 to go out to eat a meal that’s $30 there. I don’t feel too bad going out to eat here after looking at the bill. They have IMAX and 4D movie theaters here, since I do go to the movies. They’re only six dollars. I was paying a $22 membership per month with AMC, 3 movies a week. I at least went to the movies twice a month or more and each ticket is $21 without the membership per movie. Still had to pay $21 for my partner. Concession food is really cheap here. There is too many cafés with great ambience to go enjoy a latte. I’m still able to watch some of the TV shows here. My phone service is cheaper my Internet service is cheaper. The phone package with tv and internet it’s cheaper than just the Internet. I had back in the US. The electric bill is cheaper, we don’t have air-conditioning and don’t need a heater. It’s perfect weather. We have a car, but I can get around with Uber just fine. My partner she uses it for work still even though it’s a 10 minute walk. Having a maid 3 times a week is a benefit I can’t do in tue USA unless you’re wealthy. Food here is more natural without chemicals. My grocery expense is way cheaper and don’t have to navigate specific stores to get certain products. I do miss my Icelandic Yogurts though. The water here is safe to drink, but I filter it anyway. I did the same thing in the US also. Now, flying to Europe for vacation isn’t cheaper, that when I flew out of Washington DC locations, but I’m able to save more to make up for the extra cost that can be sometimes when I’m not using points. As far as points goes, I don’t accumulate as much being the cost are cheaper here. One of my cards I’m actually gonna cancel next year because there’s no benefit to keep it, especially since they raise the annual fee. Yes I will connect with other xpat groups, but that its a part of life to mingle with human beings in general. I still have to continue my Spanish lessons so I can be able to talk with my partner’s family more efficiently, with her friends when we go hang out, and especially with her mom who lives with us. I will say this is my example why moving abroad may work due to getting the same things elsewhere, but able to keep a lot of money in my pocket. I am not going to do a fixer-upper. I do not like yardwork, so that will not be for me. There is a modified bike path that everyone seems to walk here right outside the door to remain active. We are about to sign up with a gym membership just to keep our strength going. My physical therapy here for my shoulder is five dollars per visit. In the states, It was $35. That’s 7 visits here. You can’t argue that one. I probably will have to get surgery. Fortunately I’m in the city with the best medical care. This is my life living here which seems the same as when I was living there in the USA. Recalculating my savings, I have saved $2000 per month moving here. That’s $24,000 a year. That’s 6 good vacations every other month for 2. Now me personally, my issue is not knowing the language. That is my crutch living here. I have hopes to exceeded because others have. If I decide to leave here, there are also other countries. That is always my mindset. Well, I ever end up back in the United States. It is very possible. My partner is already in the process of applying for another job in DC that she had before for 2 years. It is possible that we may reevaluate and stay. You never know. 2 good income is better than 1.

No need to move to a Third World nation since the U.S. is rapidly headed into that category. Being adaptable to a different culture is quite doable but what if that retirement check/Social Security check stops coming in each month? Can the expat live on the local economy of the foreign country/region they reside in? Currently the U.S. government is $34+ TRILLION in debt and adding another TRILLION every 4 months or so. Can anyone truly believe that Social (In)-Security payments will last? I would definitely not want to be overseas and suddenly find myself broke.

3rd world? They may want to push America there but the USA is still far from it. Adaptability? Tell that to the millions of expats that have come back home after experiencing living abroad. SSI abroad or small pension? Better be flexible and have some money in savings in case you need to come back home. We all know the USA is in debt, doesn't mean the people need to get themselves into debt.

@scottrumsey5865 yes, I totally agree that America is on course to become a Third World country if we keep electing socialist politicians that grow the ever expanding Washington DC Babylon swamp. Look at the big cities- They're already 3rd world. Hopefully, people vote better starting with an orange direction this Nov. I've been complaining about the massive debt for years as well. I like the guy in Argentina, Milea. Cutting the Fed Govt bureaucracy about 75% would be a great start. I don't think Social security will vanish all at once. They'll have to cut it about 25% at first and that might wake people up to reality for once. The polls are showing more old people are voting blue and young people are about 50/50 which means young people are waking up to reality at least gradually. Old people are supposed to be wise. What happened? Anyways, I'm going to split time slow traveling overseas and living in small towns USA as I retire and hope Americans stop being so GULLIBLE!
