I ordered these headphones in Oct 2021 and got them delivered in Jul 2022 due to the war. I have emailed Igor a few times and got updates and understood the situation due to the war. The audio quality and comfort of the headphones are excellent for their price. They are easy to drive and both quality and punch are amazing. Highly recommend.

One of the things that blows my mind with a good hifi setup is "seeing" the bass strings vibrate, almost like in slow motion, in my mind's eye.

Sound is not like a single sine wave playing out of a speaker. There are fundamentals and many different harmonics in even one note. People refer to this as texture and tone but it's really physics and science that makes a good speaker, and not magic fairy dust. Frequency response is only part of the picture, but attack and decay is just as important.

I lost most of my hearing as a baby, and have been wearing hearing aids since since my late 20s (I'm 64 now). A few years ago I got a new set of hearing aids that have a coprocessor in them for enhancing music response. One day I was listening to my vintage stereo, "Spill the Wine" by War was playing. There's a bass line that sets the groove early on in the song, and I remember listening to it and being able to hear the bass guitar strings vibrating. I was amazed. All my life, I heard that same line as a muddy, vague series of notes, and now I could actually hear the instrument being played. Amazing. Sorry, just had to share that.

I finally received my Verum 1 headphones. I must say they sound so natural to me. Voices sound amazing to me. Bass may be a little light for some bass heads. What really surprised me was they seem light on my head considering how heavy they are. The grip on the head is light but I don't even noticed the head strap on the top of my head. Very happy with my Verum 1's.

@@Mike2NightBeatz I waited damn near a year. I had given up until I noticed someone saying they waited 3-4 months and that was 6 moths after I had ordered mine so I contacted Igor by email asking when I should expect my headphones along with my email receipt. He said he had one of his computers destroyed in the war and had my headphones in the mail in a couple days. I will say I discovered the real meaning of snail mail! Don't recall but exactly how long it took but it seemed close to a month to get them from Ukraine but that was more or less expected from what I've read.

@@cheapaudioman Tasteless, didn't need to comment but showed some of your watchers who were fans and happen to be part of an already marginalized minority that you just couldn't care about their wellbeing. Long time viewer, done watching you bud. "whatever was said they apologize for" and that is an excuse? "apologized for it" no lied and said it wasn't him, it was an assistant, we know he lied because he went on reddit later and confirmed he lied and those are his views, that he was proud of his views, and if you disagree and believe in human rights for marginalized minorities you are a SJW. He also joked about sending Anthraw to a reviewer (who gave his headphone a good review) and has been accused of breaching warranty terms, along with huge QC issues, you compromised your morals to do this review and against the point of your channel, cheap audio, suggested something with huge QC issues likely to cost many who listened extra money, that, was just a cherry on top of the glossing over his views.

I'm actually waiting for my own set of Verum 1 as well, hopefully it will be shipped within this month (September 2021). Placed the order in the middle of last month. I did follow the thread about his controversy, and although unfortunate, he should have behaved better as a public face to his brand. That said, to his defense, at worst he's probably just at the level of your politically-incorrect uncle in your family gathering. I believe in second chances as well, and from the looks of it, the Mk2 seems to be super promising. Can't wait for it to arrive!

These headphones are amazing. I’ve mastered a lot of records with them over the last couple of years, and am in a place where I can make an adjustment, and know exactly how it will translate to other systems, without any second guessing. I use equalisation to correct the response, but the dynamics and ability to retrieve inner details of a recording is top notch.

If the $600 amplifier you are talking about is the Singxer Sa1, just buy it! It's better than the THX amps and actually has depth in the soundstage, which you tend to not get on chip based amplifiers. The sound is just Grand and it's by far the best of my 4 amplifiers.

I did some calculations of how hard to drive these are. They are less power hungry than Grados, (SR60X) so in theory they would work just fine out of a phone. IDK for sure since i don't own them and planars are kinda funky when it comes to power. For reference my grados need 40% volume to reach 85 DB and my 80 ohm DT 770s need 75%. I finally got this one. VERUM 1 can produce brilliant sound but requires headphone amplifiers that can supply plenty of Currents instantaneously if you want them fully drive. As is often the case with low-impedance headphones, you might unexpectedly face distortion noises if your amplifier can't provide sufficient Current. I want you to drive the VERUM 1 with a powerful headphone amplifier.
@VerumAudio
@VerumAudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your impressions and understanding why it took so long to produce them. Verum 1 don't need powerful amplifier, but it need amplifier that can provide current at low impedance load. Discrete amps are very good at this usually.

I find the XS to be more neutral and have a better balance. Imaging and soundstage is larger and the XS is also clearer and more detailed while having good low end. A headphone though that I'd rec over this and the XS is the Sash Tres 45 ohm. Made in Ukraine, but easily competes with the LCD-X and LCD line, Edition XS/Ananda/HE-6se/Arya and many others. It's truly an amazing headphone. Only thing is wait time as they are custom made

I have them. They're just as great as you say, and I agree with your take on the "controversy." But the fact is that Igor's ethical/psychological problems are not limited to backward cultural sensitivities, and it can be a serious problem for customers in more ways than just their sensibilities. There are a couple of reviews out there about this, but they're so petty and arrogant, as others have mentioned, that I rejected them and not Verum, just as knee-jerk, wokeist comments and rush to judgement made me give Igor the benefit of the doubt. But my experience has proven that on many points these reviews were not wrong, and if I had seen more reasonable discussions on the subject I would not have bought the phones. Indeed, I was looking forward to the Verum 2, but not now. To wit: My Verums cut out when the cable is slightly stressed; and they have a finish defect which, alone, makes them second quality goods. Now, I was motivated in just the way that you were to patronize Verum out of the desire to support the quest under the terrible circumstances. But Igor uses the war as an excuse for everything, including justification for expecting you to take whatever he gives you: The finish defect? Sorry, them's the breaks: lighting problems during power shortages. (! I offered to buy him a generator. 🙄). The intermittency? He acted like he'd never heard of it until I sent him incontrovertible videos, whereupon he said, Oh, it's due to the cable he sent me that has straight plugs to the earpieces instead of right-angle ones which don't cause the problem - because he ran out of the latter. (Come again?!) No note about it - nothing, like hopefully he'd just get away with it as, no doubt, he often does. He said he would send me the proper cable "soon", when he was able to get the parts... + the usual 10 days to 2 week shipping. Meanwhile, I have seen older comments from people to whom Igor sent replacement cables after they complained about the same issue... which, you know, he never heard of... and they didn't solve the problem. Well why would jacks have a problem with straight plugs in any case? Igor told me he uses the best jacks there are, as if that obviated the fact that they don't work properly in his implementation. [UPDATE: Uh huh. I just received the custom cable I ordered with the right-angle plugs, and the right side no longer cuts out; but the left side still does. So we may conclude that, while Igor may be a brilliant audio electronics wiz, his handiwork is the problem here, along with the attendant consideration for other people.] The bottom line is how much your self-respect is worth into the bargain. Because any customer/warranty service you manage to get from this character will mean chasing him around in circles, like some supplicant to a dissembling adolescent. He protests that he's a one-man operation - never mind others whose ghosts have appeared from time to time to get blamed for something... pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..., but he has plenty of time to dodge and weave repeatedly over the same issue instead of dealing with it responsibly. You may very well have to settle for seconds and eat any resale hit; and you will have to have cables (balanced or replacement) custom made, as there are virtually none with right-angle plugs for the earpieces. (Assuming, of course, that they're at least an improvement.) Not to mention that these are highly unusual 8 ohm, low sensitivity headphones that require high current/power (1W +) to sound optimally. That's not to say they don't sound very good otherwise, but 350 is a bit steep at that rate; and it's impossible to find a reasonably priced DAC/amp that has even been tested at 8 ohms. Advice from the manufacturer on this unique situation? There again, all you'll get from Igor is vagaries, as if he's afraid to say anything that might possibly require him to hire a lawyer. Which is pretty funny considering the history of his big mouth. Many if not most of us were motivated to support the noble effort in dire circumstances. Now I feel like I fell for what may be one of the cleverest marketing/liability-avoidance schemes ever devised! Maybe Verum will grow into a dependably responsible company, with procedures and personnel that insulate customers from the egocentric complexes of its genius fearless leader. I hope so, because this one's really talented. But as it stands now, despite the price, the product is no more of a bargain than that of any other operation that jerks its customers around.

How do they compare to Monoprice M570 in sound?

Good question. Bigger soundstage or different enough imaging that they feel very different. The Verums felt more exciting to me than the 570’s but it’s hard to fault the 570’s when they go on sale at $200

When iiWi Reviews covered these a commenter noted/accused the manufacturer of making either homophobic or racist comments (or both). In trying to research what was or wasn't said for my own edification it's not clear who said what-when. I did find KZbin comments by Verum Audio (or someone claiming to represent them) in response to some these accusations that read (to me) as being petty and immature. Less than professional for my tastes but also not any sort of indictment on my part. I think the reputation of a company/business is worth considering when purchasing any product. However I don't put the whole of that onus on a reviewer or website. It's still incumbent upon the consumer to try to be as informed as possible before making a purchase. I do appreciate (GREATLY), you taking the time in your review to at least note that there is/was a controversy. This allows folks to do their own digging around and hopefully draw their own conclusions. I personally like supporting these sorts of small/boutique business, but would have strong reservations about supporting Verum Audio at this time based on the interactions I read. I just think there's a better way to interact with the public as a business. Thanks for the review, appreciate the content!

I am conflicted about this. I own a pair of Verum Ones (version 1) and they are extraordinary headphones for the price. They have an incredible soundstage and instrument separation and are an object of beauty. They genuinely don't sound like any other headphones I have listened to though they won't suit everyone. However the company founder is a very bristly individual who takes polite criticism or complaint extremely personally and, in my opinion, lacks the qualities needed to provide good customer service. Also he has said some deeply offensive things on social media and, reportedly, been extremely abusive to people who had problems with the product (and, given its a hand made product teething problems are inevitable). I had a very minor taste of his wrath when I raised concerns over the quality of the bundled cable. I think bringing the Verums to market was an extraordinary achievement for what was essentially a one man operation but would hesitate to advise someone to buy them, though I don't regret buying mine.

So, all the detail of the HiFiMan Sundara but with more bass? That is tempting. You don't mention the Monolith M570, so I am assuming it is less resolving? My impression of the M570 is they have great bass, and enough detail to satisfy; but maybe not be as impressive as these Verum 1 v2. Do the carbon fiber version weigh less?
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure in the carbon, Neil. These are more resolving than the 570’s. Can lean sibilant on some songs and I’ve never heard that on the 570’s. These seem way better at instrument separation though.

The guys a king a hole, he has personally weezled a bunch of cool bands from early 2000s out of contracts under his own label, witheld releasing music under his label for touring bands he signed. No mater how you spell it, it is always spelled D-O-U-C-H-E-B-A-G. Ehich is unfortunate cuz Wes is a really stand up guy and great guitarist.
