Excellent work, particularly enjoyed Marc’s paint shop presentation and Richard’s trim work. Funny watching the Mercedes seat bit, I worked for an MB dealership in the 80’s ( mostly trucks) the managers got a W123 as a company car and the big bosses got a W126 or a G Wagen. The thing that struck me most with MB seats that they were supportive but not comfortable. A bit like they were sprung with a sheet of plywood. If you had what we referred to as “a Bergermeister’s bum” they were fine, but any body less portly would roll about a bit. The W124 was much better.

Since it's now naturally aspirated, you could change the label to 'aspo'. Or even 'asbo' which would express the spirit of the car. Looks as if some painting will be needed anyway, as there's rust bubbling through behind one of the front wheels and I know you will be aching to deal with it.

4:29 A great filter that works well, is cheap and readily available is the oiled paper filter from a Honda Integra. They have a 3" outlet, breathe well and don't require cleaning and oiling. I ran one on my Bluebird Turbo rally car in dry , dusty Australia and never had any bypass issues.

Hi, in Australia if wewere to attempt such radical builds as the SAAB we would have to have an independent Engineer certify all aspects of the build during the build before it could be registered and the paper work lives with the car. What is the process in the UK?

Question With the older cars like the Aston and E type, do they need an MOT or any other testing when you have completed the resto mod? They would be exempt in their original form but does that still apply once you have completed them? Paul

I suppose it's because they're changing the vehicle's fuel type. I expect RP have to have many of their cars IVA tested when there's significant structural alterations
@Jonathan_Doe_9 күн бұрын
He doesn’t know what he’s talking about, pretty much every retro power build is IVA tested. The reason they end up back on their original plates is because the owners transfer the plate onto a retainer, and it’s possible to put a reg that makes a car look older on a car, but if you look them up on the MOT check, they come up as “2023 retropower” etc
@rocklover74379 күн бұрын

Just a thought, on the SAAB - do you factor in rear crumple zones on redesigned chassis leg extensions?
@Jonathan_Doe_9 күн бұрын
It’s 3 inches of extension, it’s not really going to affect how the chassis legs crumple. It’ll be safer than the original Saabs body shell folding up like a biscuit tin anyway.

I don't get it. Plasticity is a toy. If you want a CAD package that can handle components, assemblies and is better for surface modeling than Fusion, just get a Solidworks license and be done with it. It may not be its specialty, but all the basic tools for manual class-a surface work are there. Or try Rhino.
