'der Rechen' is the rake, 'das Rechnen' is calculating, 'die Rechenaufgabe' is the maths problem (yes, one "n" just disappeared. ..or appeared if all this comes from 'der Rechenschieber" = abacus). 'aufgeben' is also to surrender, thus the white flag on the rake. Rechenaufgabe = rake surrender

The "painitn Bavaria black" meme is a politics meme. Markus Söder(bav. Conservative) is known for hating on "Die Grünen" (political party) an putting all the blame on them. Black is the colour of the cdu/csu (party witch söder is part of)

Volker is refering to Volker Wissing the minister for traffic. He like all his predecessors is extremely disliked by the population, because... well you noticed the issues with for example the trains. Fixing that was not exactly a priority for him, because as an FDP politician he is very close with the automobile lobby. When the current coalition fell apart because his party was kicked out, he decided to leave his party and remain in his office. The meme essentially is the automobile companies telling him that he has to remain in said office and do their bidding or certain payments they made to him would become public. So essentially the meme insinuates the minister of traffic is so beholden to the automobile manufacturers and thats why he says goodbye to his party now. The truth is likely that he thinks his party is done for anyways and is either holding out before joining another once that's no longer a conflict of interest with his cabinet post or tries to keep his political ties intact for when he becomes a lobbyist for the automobile manufacturers after his gig as minister ends in february.

Hey, german here and no idea why people say your pronounciation is bad, since you really have a very good one! I mean, one can still hear the american accent, but you nail most of the tricky stuff that many americans would have problems with like the "sch" sound, the "ei" and "ie" and the Umlaute ä, ö, ü!

Ich_Iel memes are very often translated verbatim from English to German. These are difficult. Sometimes you have tor re-translate it verbatim. What we find funny in various degrees are puns. The problem with puns: you must be proficient in the language and your local trivia knowledge must be top. It is oudated now, but a couple of months, or four years, ago: Im November stehen in den USA zwei Kandidaten zur Wahl. Ich wünsche beiden viel Glück. (The trick is that _beiden_ and _Biden_ are homophones and you have to get the connection between them because both made sense at the time.) And this is the reason why Germans don't find many Murican jokes funny and vice versa,

Comparing points to actual grades is kinda hard, as the best score (15 pts) would be something like 0.8 (not sure about the actual conversion of that, but the best Abitur possible is somewhere around 0.68 iirc -> 15pts in every subject + 15pts in BELL). In grades a 4- would mean "barely passed". in points at the other hand, 4pts (comparable to a 4-) means "failed", as you need to score 5pts minimum to pass.

@@JamesBray3 Actually, what Wupstaler said. But generally, it depends on what you want. Cartoons usually work universally. You could look for Martin Perscheid, Ralph Ruthe, or Uli Stein. The grandmaster of subtle, intelligent humor was Loriot. Otto Waalkes was famous for silly, absurd humor in the 1970s and 1980s. A lot of German humor is linguistic, puns, plays on words, so it may not translate very well. Stand-up comedians you might look into include Dieter Nuhr, Torsten Sträter, Till Reiners, Johann König, Kaya Yanar, Michael Mittermeier, Atze Schröder, Mario Barth...
