When you've had the same regime blaming all your countries ills on other countries, controlling what you read, hear and watch, and punishing those who oppose their viewpoint, it's easier to understand how a large number of Russians supports Putin in public.

Unconditional solidarity and believing in one's own tribe / nationality is deeply rooted in all people. It is not specific to the Russian people and it is hardly surprising that large parts of the Russian people are presumably behind Putin. Once the war is over and Ukraine has hopefully regained its territory, we must win the peace. Hate speech against the Russian people does not help much and although it is understandable that people in Ukraine feel differently, there must also be a path towards reconciliation and peaceful cooperation. Russia is where it is and somehow the Russian people must be able to see a future and a place in the world.

Been following this guy for some time and his videos are incredibly insightful. The future of Russia definitely lies in in the hands of its young people. As the one girl said...she "doesn't support Putin because she's not 60". Meaning she didn't grow up under the oppressive blanket of the Soviet Union. She's still able to think for herself and she knows something's not right, even if she doesn't know exactly what it is. I hope there are more of her in Russia. The entire world needs them right now. The old guard has wandered like zombies for decades and needs to be replaced with the young people who can still think. Otherwise Russia is truly doomed as a country.

I saw a comment on another KZbin channel recently from someone who said he had unsubscribed from 1420 because it was too depressing. I was surprised. You don’t watch to be consoled - although I frequently am - but to understand this war from every perspective. The channel is hugely important. I did notice that support for the war had increased. But on the other hand young people often say there is no one in their circle of friends who supports Putin. They can be impressively articulate. I still think Russia will change when the Soviets die off. Unfortunately that could be a while 🥺. Hang in there Daniil and thanks heaps for what you do.

I'm an old man living in the UK with a deep distrust of Russia based on the behaviour of Russia in the political and military sphere during my lifetime and of a great many Russian tourists who behave so badly when they travel abroad. The problem being the bad behaviour is not from Russian teenagers (this is the problem age group of British tourist behaviour abroad) it is from Russia adults and ignorant people of my age! You are clearly a courageous young man with a social conscience and that gives me a little hope for the future of Russia other than the self-destruct Russia we see filling the headlines worldwide today. Your generation have a grave responsibility young man - you have to make Russia a neighbour no nation needs to fear or be protected from for fear of invasion. There has to be more Russia can offer the human race than mindless violence driven by psychotic politics or dogmatic thinking. I doubt it will happen in my lifetime but I am lucky to live in a country which need not be scared of anything Putin can do because we have the ability to wipe out whole areas of Russia if Russia were foolish enough to test our resolve. Given that we would probably partner France and maybe even the US should Russia ever take that unthinkable decision to start a nuclear exchange. So Putin's threats don't so much ring hollow with many of us, it's just that we have heard them so many times it has got to the point some of us are merely replying - Okay go ahead and do it then, be prepared for what happens next should you be so foolish as to think the UK (and possibly its nuclear allies) will not respond in kind. I will not trust a Russian but I have to hope the younger British generations can forge a level of mutual understanding and respect with their peers in Russia and consign Putin and his ilk to just one more chapter in the horror of what is Russian history. Good luck young man, I feel Russian authoritarianism will take even longer than your lifetime to realize how much it is at odd with the desires of much of the rest of the world. Dominating the world is not the answer Domiciling the world peacefully could well be. I admire your pluck.

What? Who do you think you are? Your delusional exceptionalism is exactly what let to WWII in the first place. The only thing "the west" can and should do is finally start to RESPECT the will and self-determination of the OTHER. So far we in the "west" have only managed to learn how to let children block their own puberty, and how to send heavy weapons to rogue neo-nationalist groups and mercenaries in any country that doesn't agree with "the west's" idea of "democracy". WAKE UP and start transitioning out of your wilful neo-colonial delusions.

well yes in the long run but there are diminishing returns with that approach. There is no point getting people to stand up if they are only going to be locked up and sent to the front lines. better to let them keep a low profile and wait until Ukraine has dealt with all of the hardliners.

I think Daniil is a good person and also that he provides an excellent example of Russian youth for the world. He is open-minded, curious, well-informed, intelligent, thoughtful, heartful, persistent, committed, dedicated and stubborn. It's clear that he loves his country a lot, too. Once Putin and his generation of cold-war dementia-rians have expired, the voice and face of Russia will be more like Daniil's and like the young dissident voices that animate his street interview videos. It is very reassuring to not just know that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but to be able to see and hear it, also.

1420’s videos are fascinating. The more intelligent older people who respond are very thoughtful and are not in favor with their government’s actions. Many are just ignorant, some willfully so, and choose to believe what the government says.
