I’ve done two pairings with two different females both at around 1200 g, the only constant so far is just a smaller clutch size both laid exactly 4 eggs. I’ve come to the conclusion that the females will go when they are ready to go not when they reach a certain weight.

Nice Video! I’ve always believed that as long as a 900g snake is eating well and growing steadily, there’s no issue with breeding. It’s funny when people claim I’m ‘power feeding’ just because my snakes grow faster, especially since I feed every two weeks with ASFs. I’ve had a 900g female produce 7 healthy eggs and a 2000g female produce 4 eggs-size isn’t everything. If you prefer not to breed when your snakes are developing follicles at 900g, that’s your choice. I won’t tell you how to do things, so please don’t tell me how to run my program. People get so sensitive when you don’t follow their methods.

Ill be honest i dont know how i feel about it. Now im nowhere close to aep lvl but i am a biologist. My concern is ppl wont take all the factors into consideration such as age and overall health of the snake and make 900-1000 grams the new "normal". Ppl have made great points in the comments. No scales in the wild. But...nature doesnt use incubators and shoot for 100% success rate either. In a sense once we start breeding were playin god a bit. Similar to say growing plants indoors. I see no issue in your case, i can see potential for issues in other breeders. Too many think in terms of commodities not the well-being of the animals. My 2 cents

@@justinorbach7570 i feel bad for her, you really shouldn’t be breeding a female ball python until they are 4 years old and closer to 1300-1500 grams. Weight isn’t everything and sure the clutch may have ended up okay but it takes a toll long term on your animal.

I totally understand same thing happened to me also she was around 1000g and was off food to the point of getting close to a vet visit so I paired and she ended up getting back on food and laying a clutch at around 1300g ish

People are always gonna hate no matter what. Is 900g too small I think as long as she is healthy and was steadily eating then it's fine I mean they don't weigh themselves in the wild to make sure they are a certain weight before getting gravid.

Completely different conditions, look at feral cats and dogs etc. there is a reason they thrive more in captivity where we can regulate things and set important standards for their health.

I’m going through something similar right now with my cinny pinstripe, she was only 1040g when I put a male in to stimulate her to eat. 1 lock then she ovulated about a month later. I’m still kinda nervous, because she was due on August 28th and I’m still waiting for her to lay 😅

People thinking “weight them in the wild” forget wild pythons take much longer to hit certain weights because they aren’t being power fed by impatient breeders to make a profit . . .

There are no scales in the wild ,they can start building follicles around 900g and will go off food until they get a lock with the male,they the will start eating ravenously and it is our job to feed them as much as they will eat as they are trying to put on as much weight and muscle possible to lay a healthy clutch of eggs😊 I have had 900g females that have done the same and have put on over 1300g alone and lay 8 to 10egg clutches no joke here !!!Keep up the great work Miguel as always awesome job😊

I didnt catch if you ever mentioned her age. To me age is more important than weight, provided they are of course healthy and eating. My personal policy is the female has to be over 2 years and eating regularly to start pairing.

I think it’s become an industry standard to wait because it’s deemed “safer” and less risky to wait until til they are bigger, older and potentially more easily able to rebound from it. I think if you have experience and understand the risks, it doesn’t matter. A female in the wild isn’t being weighed and checked over by a male. They will breed and the female will decide if she’s ready and able to handle laying a clutch. These animals won’t lay if their body isn’t ready for it.

Someone made a video about this, and I think it was only an issue with colubrids getting egg bound. But, it isn't an issue with ball pythons--which are VERY thick bodied when you compare them to the average colubrid. Don't quote me on this though... My birthday was yesterday, and I've had a few drinks in me. 😅

Yes, its wrong. Its like breeding a dog at 6 months just cus she goes into heat. You're destroying that females longevity.
@skyediona17813 ай бұрын
This is not like breeding a dog what so ever, which is a mammal that gives live births. Most reptiles lay eggs. They can also hold on to sperms for YEARS. Many can lay eggs through parthenogenesis (a virgin birth w/o a male) when their bodies are ready and no males are available. They will not use that sperm until their body is ready! There is no mammal on earth that can give birth through parthenogenesis, you cannot compare a mammal to a reptile.They're just too different.

🤣🤣🤣 you don’t even know how old the snake is shut up.
@realnewsnowshorts3 ай бұрын
@26cnel if the snake is 900g and older than 3 years then he is keeping them wrong. By his track record he gets females up to size in 1.5-2 years so I don't think she is older than 2 and it's her first clutch and first ovulation. Aldo, don't tell me to shut up, I have the same right of opinion and speech that you do, this is america
