Technical expertise even back in the days of Ben Ali could face problems and be ignored in promotion, but they maintained some type of freedome. The error was transforming Tunisia into semi-presidential republic instead of a parliamentary one. Why would little centralized country ever need a strong president? Discussing the system of government is a part of any democratic tradition, even if the system is at times undemocratic. All the western-country principles of democracy touted by all these western-coutry medias come from the discussions we in the west have been having amongst ourselves. We have gone through the consequences of our actions in our history, so we have worries. That's all. Personally, I can understand it if the Tunesians want to discuss this for themselves.
