Not disagreeing, but adding to the Jackhammer point. I think the biggest issue with the Jackhammer is when you get it. By layer 7 you've already learned so much shotgun tech that giving a different weapon that uses entirely different tech to the shotgun is just a really hard thing to pick up. I'm new and I have this exact issue. The only Jackhammer I've been using is the Overpump because of how much damage it can do.

I would like to point out that THIS GAME IS STILL IN EARLY ACCESS As we see with prelude and act 1 the bad parts of the game are getting reworked and new content is still yet to be added Personal opinion: As an early access game: 9.5/10 The deeper you go the more you start to love the game And getting better at this game is one of the best feelings ever

This is something that's easy to forget. It's easy to complain about certain aspects abt the game but then you remember that it's still literally in early access. By the time the game fully releases it'll probably have HUGE balance changes. Some boss fights could even be completely different.

The point of early access is to get feedback on what you're doing and advise on what you should do. So it's neither an argument in favor of ultrakill, nor an argument against it. The game should not get any early access biases (still a 10/10 for me)

I might add that for new an unexperienced standart is the way to go. When I had 0 hours put into ultrakill and didn't even have money to buy the game, standart was hard enough for me to die from bosses and Minos Prime specifically, but then a lot more hours were put in and rn I'm finishing P-ranking the game on Brutal, still kinda struggling, yeah. Standart is not easy for someone who's just starting to play or didn't have much experience with shooters and fast-paced shooters in their life. Good video, as always

note about the double max HP on lenient/harmless max HP increase on harmless is exactly what's stated: you have double max HP (from 100 to 200) however, it's not as easy on lenient, as it still has default 100 HP; however, if you die atleast 3 times in a stage on lenient, then your max HP will raise to 200, but you'll start on 101 (which is very inconsequential, since it's very easy to heal, especially with the red shotgun) also weird thing is that, if you unequip most of your weapons then the "weapon freshness" gets capped higher if you have 3 weapons/variants, then no weapon will drop below "Stale" (0.5x style points) if you only 2 weapons/variants, then weapons don't drop below "Used" (1x style points) and if you equip only 1 weapon then you're permanently on "Fresh" (1.5x style points) with that weapon

I highly agree with your comment on the game's style being inconsistent with subjective style at times. There is some really flashy stuff you can do that just isn't rewarded at all. If I had the technical know how, a mod that adds style bonuses and rebalances certain ones would be the first thing I make. I already have quite a list for it: - Orbital coinshots (only counts with strong hitscans as it just replaces "ULTRA" with "ORBITAL" under certain conditions)((when the height difference between the coin ricoshotted off of and the target hit is great enough)) - Autonuking - Christbacks and other forms of ricoshot art - Certain firestarter patterns (thinking about "FIREWALL" and "RING OF FIRE") - More ways to get "INSTAKILL" (Same streetcleaner method, also includes killing any full health big or boss enemy in under 1 second) - Fusing two explosives together with the jackhammer - A bonus similar to headshot combos but for chaining screwdriver parries - An even higher style multiplier while riding an unfrozen rocket - Buffing the style gained from time consuming style bonuses (nailbombed, round trip, catapulted, etc.) - Nerfing the style gained from almost every source of 'sustained' damage (saw traps, sawed-on's melee attack, screwdriver, nailgun, etc.)((the kills themselves will be equally as stylish, but the damage being done doesn't give as much)) - Removing "blasting off" from jackhammers (tbh, I never saw the purpose of this one)

Ever tried Overheat nails + Jumpstart? Can do so much damage to whatever target you pick, and the area damage from the +CONDUCTOR style bonus is crazy. Yeah, for their effort, sawtraps are too good, but certainly not outstandingly better than the other Nailgun variants, or other weapons

Sorry mate but this is an absolute nothingburger of a video. "weapons are good but some are bad. bosses are good but some are bad. style meter is good but sometimes bad. movement is good but this one random mechanic that is easily ignorable gets its own rant because lol. story is good but not very if you don't look for it. community is bad. music is good but sometimes bad." This is basically the entire script. Wow. No shit. Good game has something bad?! Good game doesn't get EVERYTHING right? I can't even disagree or agree on most of what you say because there isn't much subjective topics. This is like one of those game analysis videos that, when looked inside, are just a basic plot summary. I think saying that the earthmover brain boss being bad is kind of missing the point? You're not really there to have a boss fight, the boss fight is the entire stage that you progress through, and then must run from before the self-destruct sequence. I didn't really see the brain as the boss, I think the point was that the entire stage, entering and leaving, is the boss. Also, the fact that you skipped over just how beautiful and varied the levels in this game look is absolutely criminal. Despite this being a 30 minute long video, having no segments dedicated to level/world design in a genre like this is baffling.

Sawblade trap could be potentially nerfed by decreasing or limiting its damage against single targets, so that it becomes more of a crowd control weapon, as it was presented as such in its teaser.

In my opinion, ULTRAKILL's music, while it may not be as good to listen to on repeat outside the game, serves its purpose within it. The music does a really good job of what its meant to do: pump up the player during gameplay, and personally, I think thats all that matters.

I think the overheat nailgun actually works better for how I play the game since I really like single target damage but I have the sawblade equipped on blue regardless. That being said I can't bring myself to use the jackhammer it's so finnicky for me.

One thing I'll note about weapons is that it isn't like a hypercompetitive online game or an rpg where if you dont go in with the best loadout you get clowned on-- its all about what you feel comfortable with and how you choose to play. Ive hit wave 50 in the cybergrind with stock piercer and blue nails, alternate weapon choice for pistol and nail/sawgun isnt as linear of a meta as you make it out to be, and this is oddly followed up with the "play your way" strength of UK which is basically my point in a different form I love this game too and think the way you presented weapon meta is something that isnt a thing if you're starting out or are even getting to the prime sanctums, exacts and pure metas only really matter when niche circumstances call for them, which arent a thing in the base game and only come about due to stuff like forceradiance (stock splitshots dont kill fodder, slab is necessary) or speedrunning (i dont speedrun but specific combos probably call for specific alternates)

Dis a good review, I agree with all the stuff about the bosses, style system, movement mechanics and the sawblade launcher (fricking hate it). I think this video effectively tackles everything that's generally important to ULTRAKILL. On Alternates: One huge thing with the alternates I feel you should've mentioned, is that if you're not engaged with the community or watching videos about it- you might never unlock the alternates to begin with. I only use alternate sharpshooter but it's *definitely* not straight up better than the default because it has less shots of the alt fire- meaning faster times for exploding projectiles which to many players is more useful than the alternate single shot. Subjectively, I still think the alternate marksman is ass because of style and it's an easy fix: I think if Hakita makes hitting splitshots with it means it stays more fresh then it'll be pretty much equal with the normal revolver. THAT SAID- yeah normal piercer is total garbage and I wouldn't know how to fix it Honestly the saw blade variants aren't totally one-sided, because of the conductor buff the overheat nailgun has gotten way more useful to me than the saw. But yeah there's no reason why the default sawblade launcher fire should be WAYYY stronger than the nailgun and saw traps are broken. I like how divisive the jackhammer is and it really is better than all the other alternates in showing how all preferences are actually good. All the shotgun tech is still so useful that I have two variants for it but the big damage and knockback of a whip cancel jackhammer is so free that it pays to have just one variant for it- specifically whatever the last one is so you can still get two shotgun swaps before finishing on a jackhammer hit or like swapping to rocket. Difficulty: I don't think standard difficulty should be labelled in the hard section since first-time players wanting a real challenge might then pick it regardless thinking they're in for a difficult time when really standard ULTRAKILL is friendly to most gamers. Not an actual issue here and I might be the only one thinking it but I had this experience. Enemies: I agree the overall enemy design is quite good, just the unblockable attacks of a Ferryman on Cybergrind is unfair andddd yeah that's about it Music: No point really bringing this up since it's all opinionated but agree to disagree- "A complete and utter destruction of the senses" hurts my ears in a good way and the OST overall deserves much praise, guest composers also go crazy. Final Thoughts: Wasted over 1000 hours on this dumb robot game and I spent 20 minutes writing this comment 9/10 (sadly will waste more hours when the game is finished and probably better) Aight' that's it good video

As an ultrakill player, I don't get why people say the nailgun is bad, me personally not only use it a lot, but it's one of the strongest weapons for me, arguably better than the railgun, because the damage it does along with having built in aim assist if you land a trap, I just don't understand calling it weak, now, it's VARIENTS I can see, they aren't the best but seriously, it does DAMAGE, I just don't get it, and yes the saw trap can do some broken damage, but like, I don't care, you expect me to, in the middle of fighting GABRIEL, THE ARCHANGEL, to just, stop fighting, and spend like 30 seconds placing a full saw trap? I get doing it before a fight but that's really the only time you can use it, so in a boss fight, at least for me, the nailgun racks up more damage, great video tho.

I booted up Ultrakill for the first time and I just chose violent out of sheer curiosity. It has become my baseline since, standard is too hard for me because I'm used to the projectile speeds on violent, and now brutal. It's just weird to me rn. I joined the ultrakill official discord server, got on vc and streamed my playthrough on standard difficulty, and someone told me i was using the ‘wrong weapon layout’ and i should put the slab piercer in the first slot instead of the marksman, before I had even unlocked the slab variant revolvers

on my first playthrough I spetn 3 hours on gabriel 1 and 20 minutes on gabriel 2. maybe player is a bit more accostomed to his mechanics, so second encounter is a bot easier. or maybe due to the factor that first encounter has a lot more diverse attacks than second one.

I only desagree with your opinion on the Minos corpse boss fight, its meant to be swallow and give you the sensation of something missing, this is done intentionaly , he misses his soul. Youre fighting a dead corpse conrolled by blood seeking parasites so basically you are fighting the parasites not minos itself. ps- good video !!

i absolutely fell in love with the game since it was the first game i've played in years. the last games I had played were splatoon, ACNH and minecraft. you can imagine that ultrakill was a MASSIVE change of pace for me. it made my brain feel like it was working again and it restored my faith in games as a medium of artistic expression however, i needed a perspective like this to keep me grounded in reality. this game isn't perfect, no game ever will be. i kinda wish there was smooth gyro aiming for the Steam Deck, i found the Minotaur 1st phase pretty annoying, and I think that some levels let you get completely off track too easily and end up spawning enemies in the wrong place. also, the environmental hazards in Prelude are badly designed. those are my criticisms

To clarify on ultrakills difficulty: Even me, someone who normally stays away from shooters because I normally play card games like slay the spire, purely because I can't aim, can fish this game on standerd. God bless the green shotgun. Who would ever think that a close range high damage option with maximum spread would be great for someone incapable of aiming in a game where killing close by enemy's heals you. Brutal is just that though Im sorry, "with exception of the nailgun, none of the varients feel underpowered" The nailgun is by far my favorite, especially when it comes to bosses, I would have never beaten zariel if it was not for the nailgun. My entire plan for phase one is use the red one to start electricity, use the blue one to make sure both bursts from the green one connect, and that is most of his phase one health bar. In hindsight, I still need to unlock the sawblade thingies, you have a good point, ill shut up.

i actually don't use the blue sawblade launcher - partly i just don't like how it feels, but also it's just not fun. i think the overheat sawblade is much more fun and this is probably because it does the same amount of damage but it's spread out over more time. i was amused that you say it's a must-have for any room or boss when i've p-ranked everything and gotten to wave 70 on brutal without it.

I actually kinda like leviathan, even though I know it's not a great fight. It's just really fun to fling yourself through the air with the whiplash and it's not too hard to do either, unlike a lot of other movement tech.

about the alt weapons: you make it sound like nobody uses the nailguns while there are a lot of people that I've seen that prefer the instant barrage of nails from the overheat nailgun and the high damage nails of the attractor nailgun. with the slab revolver, yes almost everyone has the normal marksman and slab piercer but there are a lot of people who use the normal sharpshooter because it does more damage (the alt fire of both sharpshooters do the same damage) that's what alt weapons are. one is faster, the other one has more damage. doesn't mean either are bad.

I think the reason why linguini has opinion like that about ost for ultrakill is because he got used to it, so it just become a background noise. This is somethink our brain does with paterns and similarities, I'm not really shure how to explain that but you can just sertch this on the internet

The alternate shotgun actually got a nerf, now when you get a red (max speed) attack and hit it, the alt shotgun stops working for around 5 seconds.

it got nerfed a couple times because it was released slightly too strong but the cooldown mechanic has always been there lol specifically it's damage got reduced and the cooldown increased slightly

I think ULTRAKILLs biggest problem is its lack of tutorialisation. So much of the game mechanics are left unexplained. the tip of the day system, the biggest help that players get, is emphasized so little that most people literally ignore it, and since they’re level specific, many people will never see them again after beating that level. The prelude is too short, and so many weapons are handed to you at the beginning of the game that most people will fall into the strategy of using an inefficient tactic and brute forcing with trial and error than actually experimenting. If they knew that weapons could interact with each other, there would be less confusion(and less backseaters). Most helpful tutorial text is too small on the screen, and lots of people don’t read it. Enemy strategy is only listed after the lore, and since fps players hate reading, it often goes ignored despite being incredibly useful. For a game with such an emphasis on knowing tech, it certainly doesn’t teach the player much.

the game does tell you some ways you can use all of the weapons in the game, if you just click on the weapon itself, it opens up a menu giving a description of what the weapon does, followed by a monument of text of tips on how to use the certain weapon, but nobody likes paragraphs on text on an ADHD shooter game

Ultrakill is a sort of game you need to experiment with to find out new ways to do something so if the game told you lots of tech including movement tech and etc it wouldn’t stay true to the core part of what makes this game fun. The ability to do literally fucking anything.

@@Panjy_ then the game should have more levels to experiment with. In the prelude alone, there are 5 levels, but you get 6 weapons+variants, not enough time to learn the ins and outs of each. And then you immediately get the nailgun in 1-1, another three weapons.

@@Panjy_ I don’t want ten levels per layer. However, considering act 1 alone has twice the levels with the same number of weapons, it is much easier to experiment with the simpler weapons in act 1, than with the much more complex shotgun and revolver in the prelude. If the prelude had more levels, it would both make weapon experimentation easier, and also make the actual entrance to hell even more impactful.

Please dont throw rocks at me but this is about the slab revolver It is objectively better when you have gotten used to the game AND, most importantly, have more weapons, but new players will find more use out of it. First, it fires faster, making it better against early enemies and less punishing if you miss. And now about the alt fire: - Slab piercer has a longer cooldown, making it hard to use by itself without switching to other weapons. - Slab sharpshooter has a single charge but no startup, also making it hard to use without other weapons. Slab revolver SHOULD be better than the default one when used with other weapons.
