As a Liverpool fan I hate to agree, but for me VVDs only weakness has always been his lack of urgency in some situations. It looks like he has no point to prove anymore. Our back line needed a kick up the ass and he was always the man to do that, but I didn’t see any of that leadership last night. I was also disappointed with Henderson for not digging out players, we felt defeated after the first 10 minutes.

I also thought Trent Alexander missed a lot of his crosses into the box in the last two games, he made them in predictable moments and the passes were short. Fabinho looked off when he came in, his passes were uncertain and he seemed out off sorts. Milner was clearly unhappy with Van Dyke, he was constantly at him today. Congrats to Man U, it's great to see a performance like this and hopefully it bodes well for the rest of the season. I think after the injury Virgil has been more passive then even before like he's backing off a bit too much instead of being assertive and attacking the offensive player. There can be a fine line in that which made him really good but now I think he's getting to the point of no return too often. I 1st really noticed it in the UCL final against valverde but the Sancho one is the most recent. I'm wondering if he is a bit worried in his injury but there's no doubt he's a great footballer. The real issue is the midfield to the front 3. The problems are fitness and personnel. This high energy counter pressing as they call it takes a toll especially playing all the games they did last season. personnel wise the midfield used to be fabinho henderson wijnaldum with the front 3 being mane firmino salah. You compare that with what they have now it's just not as pressing or cohesive enough. Trent has always gone forward but before it was just to hard to get through the midfield cause they cover positionally so well or pressed so high that even if they lost the ball it was retained.

If you watch again, VVD is covering for the two man United players to his right. If he goes to Sancho, they roll it simply to the left and it's a tap in. Man United just played well!

He is covering the goal. He should have assisted in keeping space tight. Far too much space allowed United to combine well .

VVD could have stepped to close the space between Sancho and the goal but he also had the pass into Bruno to consider. But Milner could/should have stayed on his feet, he was already there to cover the shot.

It’s interesting to me that people are surprised that world class players have off days. Van Dijk is one of the best, and he’s had a blip lately. It happens. Seasons are so demanding, players go through ups and downs, and it’s what makes the game so wonderful 😊 No need to go overboard, demand signings, or forget that Liverpool were going for a quadruple last season. The physical and mental demands of that are astronomical

TAA was awful. Really awful. Van Dijk deserves criticism but they have never sorted a proper partner for him. Joe Gomez is not good enough. Midfield made mistakes but what do you expect with those injuries and their age.

You could say this, but vvd has been doing this since the start, where he waits for the attacker to make the move and then counter it and 95% of the time it works, however sometimes it doesn’t, an example is the cl final where he made no effort to stop valverde from crossing, still the best cb in the league for me along with Laporte
