Walking is good exercise, but not for the reason you might expect. In this video, Dave explains how walking is exercise, the benefits of walking for exercise, and why it actually is GOOD exercise...maybe even the BEST exercise.
If you're struggling to make fitness stick, you're invited to try the Walking is Fitness podcast. There's a new ten-minute episode every day that will help you develop a fitness habit that lasts. And, to keep it fun, Dave records each episode while he's out walking too.
DISCLAIMER: Dave is not a doctor or personal trainer. This video is not intended as specific medical advice for you. Please talk to your professional before starting any course of exercise to make sure it's safe for you.

I feel that walking in a great exercise for me. Combined with some upper arm movements I feel like I get a pretty good work out. I average about 3.2 miles in 50 minutes 5 times a week. Its a mindset to just make yourself do it, especially when you start out. Once you get a habit formed it's pretty enjoyable. Great stress reliever as well.

great message! Walking can be a game changer, mentally and physically. Something I've also done for many years, although more on the scale of 9 to 11K steps per day.

Setting is important to me. My usual walk is six miles, at least half of it on a county road. It gives me a chance to view the daily industry of the community. I know most of the few drivers, who slow down to lessen the dust, and I have been known to chat for a few minutes to get "the news." At 79, I get both the social and cardio benefits. My biggest compliment is, "You don't walk like an old man!!!

Fast walking or a step up shuffle walking is probably better, but just regular walkingis a must. You are giving great advice..it does take some time, but thats less on your backside and giving your eyes a rest from the screen. It does reguire commitment and I even sign up for virtual walks or runs on the web and after the event get a t shirt and medal as a reward. Cost between 30-40 dollars but worth it if thats what you need to get moving

Hi Dave, I stumbled upon your KZbin channel (pun intended) while l searched for ways to keep up the pace ( I can't help myself) after being on holiday for two weeks and averaging 12k steps a day. Your videos are truly inspirational, and your podcast is just what I was looking for. I've only just begun my journey (yes :) and yours is the perfect voice I needed to help me along. You can count on my support. I am in awe of people like you. Kamal from Sri Lanka.😃

When I see someone walking for exercise along a highway it makes me cringe. It must be very bad for ones health to breath in auto fumes. I would never do that.

Hi do you like to cycle as well? or you focused on walking for some reason? is it somehow superior from your experience/research?
@WalkingisFitness
@WalkingisFitness Ай бұрын
I have a bike that I ride every day. I also do some strength training several times a week. The superior exercise is the one you enjoy and will stick with. If you don’t stick with it, there’s no value in it at all. That’s my philosophy

people wont get out of their cars and ultimately they will get health issues. and a brisk walk is far better than a slow walk in my experience

Low intensity cardio in any form is not enough. It's a good place to start, and an activity to use for recovery. But alone it sets one up to be skinny fat w/ excessive more dangerous visceral fat.
@WalkingisFitness
@WalkingisFitness Ай бұрын
The experts say well rounded fitness needs cardio, strength training, balance, and flexibility exercises. Plus, nutrition, stress management, and sleep all factor in. The challenge is so that can feel overwhelming at the start. I recommend you begin building a fitness habit using walking and as your capacity and momentum grow you can expand what you’re doing. I’m very careful in most of these videos to say I’m not a doctor or licensed personal trainer and walking is not all you need. Thanks for watching
