@@i_luv_marbled_breadNot really, Repeating means that the same actors and time events keep happening the same way. When it loops, it means that actions keep feeding themselvse across time and allow a repeat of these events to happen. A war is started due to drought > due to fighting there is now less money and safety to build dams or places to keep water Also also, a repition can't be broken. A loop can. This is done by apply something external and extreme into the mix.

I’m Kenyan and I pray for the day DRC will be peaceful and prosperous as ever coz it’s the whole continent that stands to benefit! DRC literally has everything needed to make Africa self sufficient and independent! Apart from the crazy huge mineral resources, the biggest hydropower dam in the world if implemented fully (Grand Inga Dam) has potential to generate 40 - 70 GW of clean energy enough to power several countries effortlessly! I love the Congolese people a lot coz they’re friendly, hardworking and entrepreneurial! But it’s a shame how DRC has turned out to be coz of the evil and selfish ambitions of some powers from within and outside the continent! 😏

There could be real war this time because the tutsi proxy that rwanda relies on is a small group and tutsis are a small minority even along the congo's eastern border. Rwanda has no other major proxies so if the conglolese military manages to make gains against the m23 rebels then rwanda will likely invade. Kagame has been preparing for years for this.

To TLDR: Thank you so much for covering this! I've spent years learning about the conflicts in this region, so I'm stoked to see it get some attention. You did an admirable job of covering something this complicated in seven minutes - I have a few quibbles, but this is possibly the best short summary I've seen on KZbin. Well done! To viewers: Here are some good books on the Congo conflict: - Dancing in the Glory of Monsters, by Jason Stearns: A good easy read that covers the same stuff as this video. A great starter - In the Footsteps of Mr Kurtz, by Michela Wrong: Focuses on the rise and fall of Mobutu, who ruled DR Congo until Rwanda removed him in the first war. Maybe the best-written book on Congo - she's a fantastic writer. - Africa's World War, by Gerald Prunier: Probably the best book on the second war. Prunier is a great writer and very funny, but this one book gets quite detailed in sections. - Congo, The Epic History of a People, by David Van Reynbrouk: Good background on the country. - The War that Doesn't Say its Name, by Stearns: This covers the conflict since 2003, including the M23. A bit more academic. Also, you can't go wrong with King Leopold's Ghost (about the colonial period) and Heart of Darkness by Conrad or the Poisonwood Bible for fiction. There's a lot of great books on Rwanda (the genocide, the war in Rwanda, the Congo Wars). My faves are: - Shake Hands with the Devil, by Gen Dallaire - Land of a Thousand Hills, Kinzer (take the praise for the President with a grain of salt). - Do Not Disturb, M Wrong (for a harsher view of the President) - The Rwanda Crisis, Prunier - Leave None to Tell the Story, Des Forges (probably THE book on the genocide - but long and detailed) Also, you cant go wrong with the movie Hotel Rwanda.

To solve this problem in my opinion they needed to undergo similar to Napoleon's government structure, where the commander-in-chief will be run by the President's most loyal ally but the most experienced and capable would be in charge of the rest. The government structure will also had to restructured where it would have bottom-up approached, invited rebels to be part of government like in a senior military position and also start making peace with the other hostile tribe.

I gather Rwanda *itself* is *currently* safe, but it’s basically being accused of involving itself with M23, which operates mostly in North Kivu, which is in the DRC but obviously M23 disagrees with the DRC’s government controlling these regions. How much Rwanda supports M23 is a bit of a question mark, they did support them up until 2013, the UN is alleging that they still do support them and Rwanda denies this. At the same time Rwanda is also accusing the Congolese government of backing the FDLR, which is an anti -Rwandan government paramilitary. Congo denies that. Either way it’s fairly volatile and I can’t really think of any similar comparisons in recent history? I think the closest example is during the Troubles where the Irish government believed Britain was offering covert support to unionist paramilitaries and vice versa - and while neither government *officially* did that, some number of rogue elements in both governments did, and it’s still an unsolved question as to who did and to what extent. It’s like that on a much bigger and more violent scale. We ultimately got through the troubles without the two official governments fully declaring war on each other but there was times when it came seriously close. Rwanda and Congo have already been to war before, the prospect of a round two over this is not impossible. If that *did* happen, Rwanda definitely wouldn’t be safe. And there is a prospect of that happening in like, the next ten years. It’s not the type of place I would deem an appropriate, indefinite safe home for refugees fleeing other conflict zones, because it might well be one before the end of the decade.

@@NickBoroto actually yes. first of all FDLR is an ideology not a group of people. the ideology is to eradicating all tutsis. so yes they are there and they are still recruiting more terrorists and feeding their own children the sick ideology. by the way the government of DRC themselves accepts that the FDLR is still there and they are armed by some congolese elements in power who doesn't like the leadership in kigali. the so called mobutists are the reason why every single process that has been tested to solve the issue never worked cause they do their best to undermine it. tchisekedi was working great and peacefully with the government in kigali until 2022 when the FRDC and FDLR started shelling bombs on the rwandan territory in kinigi(musanze) so that countries would refuse attending the meeting and to undermine the idea of rwanda being safe. that's when M23 started making gains and fighting formidably and gaining land and victories. one thing about current Rwanda is security is at the center of every progress they are making. so any attempt to undermine that they are willing to go crazy to make sure that does not happen at all. and fairly that's how every nation in the world does and should do it including our nation the DRC

I once heard the claim that the reason why the previous Congo war got so little attention (even compared to some other conflicts in Africa) was that it was just too dangerous for journalists to enter the war zone to report. If that is true would that be repeated if there is another major war in the Congo? Every life is precious and matters. Not just the lives of some people in some countries.

The center of all the problems in Eastern Congo is the constant discrimination/killings of Rwandophones. Due to colonial borders there are Rwandophones across the region who are citizens of those countries that inherited their land from colonial powers. Western élite s financial support with weapon and tactile intelligence gives Kagame force RDF to resist against DRC army FRDC. Without that support Rwanda army is poweless infront of DRCongo army. Why are they unable to take over Goma as it happened during the 1997 war? This war will end with the collapse of Kagame s government as the economi of Rwanda is falling appart. Now 200 army officers and commander sucked by Kagame this is a fear of coup d'etat. Uganda is heavily involved to solidarize with Kagame Miseveni and Kagame are both fearing the coup d'etat that may be supported by DRCONGO. More than 200 militia operate in Eastern Congo nourished by mineral sold to Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. So these country benefit more when the militia supported by the élites of these countries creat chaos. Somalian, Eritrea, Tanzanian etc are among militia too. And most of the head of militia lives and have their wealth in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya. That's the reason why the force of SADC cames in under support of South Africa and UN. The Congolese army is stronger despite long war they're fighting for decade, they are good in gorilla war. Their weakness is corruption and infiltration of foreign army in DRCONGO army which is now being fight by actual government. We shouldn't be surprised to see war goes back inside Rwanda which Western elites doesn't want it happened, thus pushing the negotiations between Rwanda and DRCONGO without including M23. As MR23 are considered to be DRCONGO problems and they should be disarmed without integrating the DRCONGO army. Because the army of DRCONGO doesn't want the infiltration of Rwandan military in it command. About the resource of DRCONGO, this country should be neutral like Switzerland in order to accommodate Western Power and Eastern Power (Russia- China etc) for it stabilities.

Congo has been threatening rwanda’s tranquility since 1960. “In *October 1960,* Congolese soldiers positioned themselves at the border, and fired sporadically towards *Rwanda.* The belgian paratroopers were ordered to shoot back only if the Congolese crossed the border, or if their shots made victims on *the Rwandan side.* Insecurity became permanent in Bukavu when the Lumumbists took control of the city in *December 1960,* under the direction of kashamura. The Belgians were taken hostage, and some were even s hot ded. Soldiers of *the Congolese National Army,* who had switched to the Lumumbist side, attacked on December 16th 1960 the UN troops in Bukavu, notably mistaking an Austrian UN medical team for disguised Flemish paratroopers. Realizing that the Austrians can be shot at any moment, MONUC soldiers from Nigeria are sent directly to free them. After having evacuated the Austrian team *to Rwanda* with many wounded, the Nigerians, in turn surrounded, call for reinforcement. The Belgian authorities are hesitant to give it to them, fearing that the incident will *spill over to Rwanda* and cause widespread looting there since the Bukavu region has been without flour for a week. The Belgian paratroopers, who were sent the next day as reinforcements to Bukavu, remained on the Rwandan side of the border, in Cyangugu. The conflict is finally resolved by conciliation between Congolese soldiers and UN troops, but the toll is heavy with around sixty ded, including a Nigerian soldier from MONUC. At the same time, other peacekeepers are also surrounded in Goma by Lumumbist Congolese soldiers. Again, the Belgian authorities fear that this is the starting point for a Congolese *at tack on Rwanda.* Tshomba, a former Kivu minister who has taken *ray fuge in Rwanda,* asks Harroy's replacement (Harroy is then in Belgium on official business) to authorize Mobutu *to at tack the Lumumbists in Bukavu from Rwanda.* Negotiations take place between Leopoldville, Brussels and Bujumbura to transport a detachment of Congolese paratroopers by air via Bujumbura airport, then by road. With the agreement of the government in Brussels, the Congolese paratroopers are transported from Bujumbura to the Congolese border in twelve trucks, led by Belgian soldiers dressed in civilian clothes, and followed at a certain distance by a platoon of other Belgian paratroopers in charge of collecting them in case of failure. When requested, the commander of the Belgian Metropolitan Forces in Rwanda and Burundi refused to lend machine kuns and more tars to Mobutu soldiers. Was the operation under the direct command of Belgian officers, as an American source claimed? In any case, Colonel Logiest and Colonel Laurent, commander of the Belgian airborne battalion, are watching the troop movement from the bottom of the Rusizi valley. The Belgian chief of the secret police, Major tulpin, who is by their side, wrote shortly before a letter to vanderstraeten [the Belgian chief of staff], in which he declared that he regretted not being able to participate in the operation "to send some well-known Lumumbists to heill. Because I will never have inner peace until I have avenged the honor of the wyves of comrades who were ray ped when Lumumba was in charge.” The adventure quickly turned very bad, however. Congolese paratroopers who aren’t immediately kyl led quickly *retreat to Rwanda.* According to the MONUC report, Lumumbist members of the Congolese National Army were warned of the imminent operation by Mobutu’s leaflets, which he had dropped the day before from airplanes to demand the surrender of the rebels. Thus warned, the "rebels" had time to prepare their response. As for the Nigerian peacekeepers, they had apparently been ordered not to join the battle. While Mobutu's soldiers disband *towards the Rwandan border,* some heavy fire is directed towards logiest, laurent and tulpin [all of them belgian officers]. They have been observing the operation from the bottom of the Rusizi valley in the company of a fourth Belgian officer, as well as a Belgian non-commissioned officer of the Rwandan Territorial Guard, and two belgian ci vilians: Regional governor Kirsch, and the agronomist Renaud. The group, which is lying flat on the ground, is without real protection despite the fog. Agronomist Renaud and his Rwandan assistant are kyl led instantly, while Kirsch and Tulpin are in jured. Logiest and his other companions were not freed from this difficult position until three hours later by a platoon of belgian paratroopers who came by jeep, launching smoke grenades and directing ma chine kun fyre towards the Congo. The rescued Mobutist soldiers are disarmed and returned with the wounded to Bujumbura, and then repatriated by airplane to Luluabourg in the Congo.

Perspective from a Congolese, Congo is struggling because of a system that was installed in 1885 during the CONGO CONFERENCE aka THE BERLIN CONFERENCE. Congo was formed for plundering and exploitation and it continues today by proxies like Rwanda and Uganda. Congo has 3 enemies, each enemy collaborate with each other to keep Congo in the state it’s in. The first enemy is the Anglo Saxon leader and politician, multinational corporations, and European Unions. Mainly any country that set on the table during the Congo conference in 1884. The second enemy is, regional and neighboring countries. Rwanda and Uganda, this includes Kagame and musuveni government (not the people) who are the poster child of Congo conflict. You can also include Kenya and South Africa. The third enemy of Congo is, the Congolese government ruling elites, political, cultural, and religious elites plays a role in keeping Congo the way it is. This even includes the opposition parties, they all have some kind of connection with the first or second enemy of Congo and take order from them. Another war that Congo is suffering from is the war of communication and narrative. The western media portray the conflict in Congo as a minority group called the Tutsi defected from the military because the government didn’t respect their agreement and people in Congo mistreat them. The reality is, Congo has 450 tribe and ethnic group, everybody is a minority, there’s no majority ethnic group in Congo. The second thing is there’s no ethnic group in Congo called the Tutsi, every ethnic and tribe in Congo is well documented and recognized based on their land and languages. The Tutsi speak Kinyarwanda and until today they’re fighting for land, while in Congo, there’s no tribe or ethnic group that’s fighting the government for land. (There’s land dispute, among tribes, but no one is taking arm in Congo) The M23 is not a Congolese rebellion, it’s a military branch of Rwanda in Congo, something that the western media failed to cover. Another form of war imposed on us is, economic warfare. This includes the plundering and exploitation of Congo resources from many foreign countries and companies.

"chinese" or "indian" are terms that are just like "european", not like "norse" or "greek". even a small country like laos (with less than 8 mio. people) functions fine as one country with 160 officially recognised ethnic groups. the real reason is that the congo as a country has been sabotaged from the beginning by the west. it begins with borders drawn by colonial powers, then moved on to the u.s. and the u.k. quickly deposing of the first democratically elected leader because he was too left wing and wanted to curb the exploitation of natural resources by western companies and that same thing continues today. profits and cheap resources come first, people and peace don't matter.

After independance they kept their Tutsi Monarchy for a while(whilst Rwanda was trying to get a ethnically open democracy started up), and in 1971 following an attempted uprising around 250 thousand educated Hutu were killed and another couple hundred thousand either imprisoned or driven away in order to protect the monarchy. This genocide is known as the Ikiza. This in turn lead to hundreds of thousands of young Hutu who had been driven from their homes and lost family members in Burundi to the Tutsi Monarchy fleeing to Rwanda, and collapsing the government there as they refused to cooperate with Tutsi's. Many of the Hutu Refugees or their children would be the ones leading the Rwandan Genocide 20 years later.

Rwanda's aims, and actions, are perfectly legitimate: The FLDR consists of Hutu extremists (and young new recruits who are taught the same ideology) who, if they had enough military power, would enter Rwanda with the intention of continuing the actions of 1994. The Rwandan government has every right to stop the FLDR by indirectly supporting M23, to prevent further genocide in Rwanda.

Sure but why can they not stop them at their border? There are few reports with actual evidence showing the DRC is working with FDLR and the Congolese government isn’t chasing men into Rwanda to hunt down M23. If their goal is to also prevent genocide why is it they are also extracting material Remember I’m not making stuff up here, there’s the UN report with videos and images evidence

They full name is ARC( Armeé Revolutionaire Congolais) originally were CNDP( Congress National Defense of People) They signed agreements with the Congolese government in 2009 March 23( the name M23 comes from those agreements that were signed on March 23) which the Congolese government didn’t respect and started to kill one by one till they Rebelled again and this time it looks like they are stronger than ever. For the past two years they have been taking territories swiping off Congolese army out of the way easily) They are well combat experience that’s for sure and with Rwanda support those rebels are unstoppable neither SADEC or the useless Monisco are able to stop them. However they seek peace. The Congolese government is just incompetent they can end that war in a day with just a pen. Congo is a failed state ruled by Tribalist incompetent Leaders. Thats why it’s the poorest country in the world while it’s also the richest in the world with its natural resources. The government of Congo have denied the Rights to live on some certain groups of people Mainly the kinyarwanda speaking people in the Eastern congo(mainly Tutsis but as well as the Hutus) who were put in Congo by the colonial borders. This have resulted into those people creating self Defense Armed Force( M23 originally name national defense of the people) in 2009 on March 23 The National defense of the people after 5 years of fighting with the government forces signed peaceful agreements with the Congolese Government Which the agreements were To Neutralize The Rwandan Hutu FDLRs who did the Genocide in Rwanda and flee to Congo and while getting to Congo they found Congolese Tutsis there who they also started to kill and spread they Genocidal ideology. Other agreements were for the Return of Congolese Kinyarwanda speaking refugees who have been in the refugee camps for more than 30 years. Others were for the National Defense of the People’s to integrate into the National Army but stay in the Eastern Congo where they people live to observe the agreements in actions for atleast 5 years. So after all those agreements signed with the government. The government didn’t respect any of them They didn’t bring back the refugees and they started to deploy them separately and started killing one by one. The leaders of the movement noticing that in 2011 they Rebelled again and this time they come out as thee “M23” (March 23 movement) which was to remind the government the agreements that they signed in 2009 on March 23. 2013 they took Goma and the government agree to dialogue so M23 pull out of Goma and instead of the Government to dialogue they used that Time to bring in The special Intervention UN brigade with forces from like 5 countries. Then that year the M23 was beaten bad but wasn’t defeated Militarily completed. They flee to Uganda and in 2017 they come back to Congo again and for 5 years they lived in the volcanos of Sabyinyo which in all that time they prepared to Resurface again and the time of their come back was in 2021 when the government forces attacked them but since then the M23 have been beating the government forces badly and conquering Big territories till this day. And with the Supprt of Rwanda which provide them with Weapons and reconnaissance they have been unstoppable. Neither the SADEC nor the UN plus the 200 Armed groups in congo with Europeans mercenaries have stopped the M23s advance. They are well combat experienced and with Mordan weapons which are provided to them by Rwanda and other from the Congolese army itself The M23 cannot be stopped militarily.
