I really think sports and professional athlets are over appreciated on our society. I'm a 30yr old guy who's played a lot of sports, video games and watched a lot of T.V. and you know what? playing sports has been just as useless as watch T.V and playing videogames aside from getting some exercise. Careful how invested you are in sports guys, watching and playing.
@DoctorHver
@DoctorHver 3 жыл бұрын
I personally think media is largly to blame for that, as there is whole media industry thats just works on reporting on anything related to sports and sporting scores and outcome. This industry for some reason has been allowed to tag along with serious journalisim and news reporting, and pretend that reporting on sports related matters is somehow as important as reporting on serious social matters. But as someone that has also watched his far share of TV and movies along side of playing video games, I would like to point out that there is no media outlet out there reporting on the endings of TV shows, movies and video games and preteinding that they are as important the news.

I absolutely agree with you 100 percent. I get made fun of for not watching any sports and movies, and I used to feel embarrassed. But that’s because on my free time, I like to read about things I don’t know about so I can grow as a person. I don’t know much about finance, so I plan on spending my free time reading about it. On KZbin, I prefer to watch documentaries about the world and watch the lives of doctors, successful companies, etc. I’m glad I resonate with your thinking!

I certainly agree with you on this. I’ve often wondered why we support sports, to the point that well known players can be paid millions, while most people couldn’t name a top scientist or medical researcher.. People that pro-competitive sport are always point out to movies, video games, and such and ask why only competitive sports only got the flaks. But reality is, Movies and Games at least relay values and lessons to our life, especially games (videos and tabletops) actually make most of the people that indulge in it engage with the medium, actually giving them real values and skill. Competitive sports only gave those benefit to the few that priveleged enought to get involved (heck, and they even not always the best, only the most sponsored), while the rest are just rambling behind the scene.

So true. Ritualize conflict it is used to distract you and give you a vicarious sense of community. They may learn it both how to compete with others and work well with others but you are just in a daze. These Sports have more symbolic meaning. For some people watching or playing sports Is No Escape. Still it's a very expensive way to daydream. It can be said that many people have the urge to be part of something bigger than themselves. That urge can be satisfied obviously in the wrong way.

the glorification of these athletes lowers ones self-esteem and breeds hoping wishing and gambling. all sports should be obsolete. it does nothing for the progression of the human species. we can have competitions without making it a sport. oh and the money, time, energy and resources involved when these teams travel, spectators' trash, all that oil and gas. just pathetic.

Man, people watch sports to unwind from regular life struggles, it helps them to escape. If you watch sports and think: "oh I would have not made it there" comparing your life to success of pro athletes - you have a problem with your brain. Use sports as a tool to relax, let it out, distract yourself. Even series movies recommended to watch for hardcore entrepreneurs so they can let their brain relax from all the business routine. Obsession with sports is a different story.

You are absolutely correct. What do we get out of a championship win? Bragging rights? What i get to walk around like a billy bad ass for a week or two as i scored the touched down. Honestly i have been a moron for over 38years. NFL has never sent me one check. I wont say i wont watch games again how ever it will be the nightlight’s i wont spend 3 hours watching a game like a zombie 🧟‍♀️ anymore.

I agree with some of what you say here...sports are just one form of entertainment, and athletes are entertainers. Watching sports should be no different than watching TV or films. The problem is, people get too emotionally invested in the outcome of sporting events, and losses can lead to severe depression, rioting, death threats sent to referees / game officials, etc. With all of that being said, you seem to contradict your message when you criticize people for following superwealthy elite athletes, but then say you'd rather watch a group of superwealthy elite business executives. You say you'd rather watch a meeting of Apple executives or watch Richard Branson work for a day. Just like you will never have the basketball skills of LeBron James, you are also never going to be an Apple exec, nor will you ever have the wealth of Richard Branson... someone who, by the way, was literally born into massive wealth and privilege. Spending the day watching Richard Branson is no more likely to increase your wealth than watching LeBron James play basketball is going to improve your basketball skills. I would also like to add to that you can learn business principles from LeBron, who was raised by a single mother and born into extreme poverty.
@JeffLernerofficial
@JeffLernerofficial Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your perspective! I absolutely agree that we can learn business principles from various people like LeBron, but I don't believe I'm contradicting myself by stating that I'd rather watch a meeting of business executives than a sports game. That would simply be my preference as I could learn more from them than a football game. Not everyone has to agree and that's the beauty of perspective!

I started following Al-Nassr club after Cristiano joined it a season and a half ago, but it failed miserably and only achieved one title. Sports in Saudi Arabia are all corruption, bribery, deception, racism and fanaticism. I have now stopped following football, which I was never a good follower of. One day, I would only watch some beautiful goals on KZbin, and indeed, my team lost or won. What is the effect of that on me? Nothing. Football is a waste of time and a false affiliation.

I think where you missed an opportunity is by not saying that you shouldn't be OBSESSED with anything. You can like sports, but just don't over invest your time. Realize it's a hobby and that all hobbies are wastes of time, which is a waste of money. If your cash flow has set you up in a way where wasting money is a calculated effort to keep you motivated and your goals are still in sight, then you're golden. If it is in any way detracting from your main goal, it has to go.
