Mickey was making more than, the boys father as a NY city bus driver, The sad part was the mobster stole away his youth and the fun that the boy and his Dad had together - That was what was wrong - the people aren't looking at the competition that the Mob guy was having with boys Dad
@americangangsterlock15506 жыл бұрын
Competition between that boy's father. You got that right.... You have the realest comment about this movie on KZbin. Congrats but I disagree that this idea took away the boys youth. If it's wisdom as real as he said than he'll understand why Sunny told him that. Remember your more of a adult throughout your life than having a 12 year old mind set or younger. All he did was lift a veil that most adults still can't comprehend when their 21 and older. How many sport fantastic realize that their favorite sports team could give a shit of their season ticket holders or not? Chances are the older you grow loving that team than the more you invest with your time and money. This exposure was as good as when some kids in 3rd grade expose the history throughout America's past time like with Christopher Columbus.

If you look into the history of Rome and understand how they used the coliseum, to keep their population distracted to move forward with their political agendas. And then look at the US population and how consumed they are with sports. Then you see the political movements flood into the games. Its honestly really scary how media manipulates the population. Television is programming people to stop thinking critically, they tell you what to think. And people just take it as gospel.

The best education I ever got was as a delivery driver for a pizza shop owned by 2 first generation italian brothers when I was 17. It was the least hard I ever worked and I got paid completely under the table, I cleared my receipts at the end of the night under a driver's social security number that hadn't worked there in 10 years. I'd average like 75 bucks in cash for 3 hours of work, they fed me all night for free. It was the most American I ever felt. They fed me and treat me like family. They said inappropriate things to the waitresses and carried handguns. It was great

This scene reveals so much in so little time, and is funny in its way. It's not that Sonny is wrong, but rather that he feels the need to impress his cynicism on a child he barely knows. Sonny obviously likes C and is trying to be paternal in his own way, though such a disposition is clearly foreign to him, at least in this point of the film. C's father, Lorenzo, later reprimands Sonny for allowing his child to "earn" at his bar, but the real issue is one of place. When Lorenzo mentions that his son, a once avid Yankees fan, got rid of his Mickey Mantle cards because Mantle would never pay his bills, Sonny laughs, but Lorenzo is incensed. It's a father's place to nurture a child, and to eventually raise him to be a man and help him shed childish things. Sonny was out of place, and knew it even if he didn't like it. Lorenzo was seeing the natural sense of wonderment and awe in his child prematurely curdle into something far worse than "celebrity" worship: the worship of money. This is such an enjoyable coming-of-age tale. It's so overlooked.

It's brilliant. It is a perfect example of why I love a good mafia movie. When you go deeper than the oversimplified 'good-vs-evil' layer, the wisdom is intriguing. Those guys knew that the government was the real evil, and that the average citizens are brain-washed morons. (Remember the classic line from Godfather 1, "Now who's being naive, Kay?"). Personally, I'd rather have Sonny as President.
@huskerhammer63258 жыл бұрын
+K Potter This is a great film but its really not a mafia movie. Its about the relationship of C and his father and coming to grips of what the man C idolizes really is....a criminal. C was headed toward a life of ending up in sonnys crew but when Sonny dies C sees him for what he really was despite caring for Sonny C realizes his dad (D' niro) was right about life. The working man isn't a sucker...the working law abiding man is the real tough guy.

+husker hammer Yes, I also get the big picture of this movie, but I was talking about this isolated scene. Remember what he later said about the Yankees being in last place? Remember the lesson he learned about the guy who owed him $20? Remember the car door lock test? That was genius! My point was that I appreciate (artistically & realistically), the tid-bits of wisdom coming from a seemingly unlikely source. Furthermore, I disagree that it's not a mafia movie. That would be like me saying that Bull Durham is not a baseball movie because it's about the underclass accepting mediocrity.

I actually used that 20.00 lesson with my 17 year old step son. He was bitching about some guy owed him money but wasn't answering his call. It worked. Kid was slike "yeah, can't stand him for the most part". Was worth the 10.00 dollars.Great film though. Funny alot of people have never seen it. This film kind of flew under the radar.

It's funny you talk about others being brain washed when you're being brainwashed by watching movies which attempt to romanticize crime. Real mobsters don't care about anyone except making money. If this is what look up to then you should be perfectly happy with the government today because that's how politicians operate.

And keeping all this in mind about idolizing sports athletes and teams, passions in sports and its players is often what leads to fights breaking out in games and even friendships being broken apart, things that can easily be avoided. It's much better to admire sports for the action than to do so for what team is going to win now that I think about it. This is among the reasons why I have never been overly obsessed with the world of sports. And remember, the athletes often are not as happy and laid back as many of us think they are, with all the stress and pressure put on them by coaches and other people, not to mention hardly ever getting to see their families as they are mostly working with training and playing the sport. Very meaningful this scene is and this movie is among my favorites! The 90's was known for some of the best movies ever made in our generation!

I think people are taking this the wrong way. Sports are entertaining. We enjoy watching top athletes perform at an elite level. It is exciting and brings sports fans together. What is stupid though is the idolisation of athletes. You hear people all the time talk about how they love messi and ronaldo and how ronaldo is their hero and idol bla bla bla wtf? They don't even know you exist. Enjoy the performance but don't idolise the performer.

Its a funny thing, when someone meets you for the first time and immediately wants to change, judge, or give you a nickname. They are either a piece of shit, trying to first take your identity and manipulate you. Or he's just a good guy, and wants to try to immediately befriend you. The key is, can you figure out which guy he is.

I would never say it's what you shouldn't watch sports, more like why you shouldn't get bent over shape about something you have NO control over. It really hit me this season, as a Yankees fan, that the Yankees were going to play whether I watched them or not. I know it sounds weird but you start to think that you HAVE to watch every game, make every call, but at the end of the day, the game is going to go on whether you watch them or not. I love the Yankees but there are more important things.
@edweer6706 жыл бұрын
Technically, to say you have NO control over a game is not 100% true. When I went to a Giants Ravens game in 2008, I told everyone to start hitting the seats to make noise, the entire stadium started doing it. It was on 4th down and short, the Giants were moving around their players and Flacco became confused, he tried to change the play but no one could hear them. The Ravens received a delay of game and wound up punting, Flacco said after on the radio, he couldn't hear "because people were banging on the seats and it was far too loud"
@edweer6706 жыл бұрын
And "at the end of the day" the Yankees are still something you enjoy, something you get into as a form of lesiure. Why the need to have to self evaluate yourself because you get into a sports game? So fucking what? Because of some movie quote. and you say there are more important things? Eh that's subjective to you...Do whatever you want in life

I had a moment of clarity like this when I realized Actors earn a living by lying to people and convincing them to believe things that are not real. Excellent film! Sonny (Chazz Palminteri) was outstanding as the antihero! He seemed very much the villain, but he wasn't at all. He also redeemed himself in so many ways, even if he was rough around the edges and not very conventional as a good guy. He simply was a strong leader in business. For C, he was "the avenging angel," a second father, a mentor, and a guardian, which made Lorenzo (De Niro) VERY jealous. I couldn't hate Sonny at all even if I tried!
@incognegro2315 Жыл бұрын
That’s bs. His father even told him to leave his son alone because he was a bad influence in him. Sonny knew he had more power behind him and his son would easily follow that.
