I live in the UK, I went on holiday to Bulgaria for 2 weeks this year and took my whole skincare routine with me, so my routine was exactly the same. After a week I noticed my skin felt a lot softer than normal and this continued for the rest of the holiday. Within a week of returning home my skin went back to normal. It was absolutely the water.

Thank you for confirming the link between hard water and skin issues. I will be sharing this with my family who are sick of me raving about it. I currently live in Minnesota. Born in the cities but moved to new developments rurally and felt the difference immediately. Now I'm packing for Arizona and planning on bringing filters with me. I've lost much hair with my last two long visits!!

I completely agree with this hypothesis. I lived in a home with a water softener for years, and my skin and hair looked great. We moved a mile up the road to a house without a softener, and I'm struggling with dermatitis on a pretty regular basis. My hair also has less body, and I notice more shedding.

I grew up in a house with a water softener and never had skin issues. I never even had to by lotion for my skin until I went away to college. I now have a water softener attachment on my shower. It’s not as great as a whole house water softener by itself but its better than washing in just hard water.

@@jesswitmer6389There’s all different kinds of water softeners on the market. Mine (a whole house softener) takes a type of sodium pellets-and what a difference it makes when you have hard water. It’s well worth investing in one. Just called a friend who has their water softeners on their shower heads and they work great, they are a waterpik brand, easy to install for anyone. Good luck!

Hello, would you mind sharing your dermatitis symptoms? I suffer from dermatitis as well and my area apparently has hard water too in southern California. I had been thinking something I'm eating was causing it. I've tried elimination diets with mixed results. I'm just finding out hardwater can cause it too. So now I don't know and have something else to look into.

For all of my teen years I never struggled with acne and when I turned 17-18 I went on a Uni trip to Suriname and it was my first time leaving the country. My skin immediately started to break out and I have had acne since. I only spent 1 week in Suriname. Now I'm 30 and only now is my skin getting to a place where I can say my acne had reduced significantly due to using Tretonion 0.05% from my local pharmacy. So I do believe change in environment, humidity and water definitely affects our hair and body.

I’m from NYC, but for 10 years have lived in Asia (Hong Kong, Vietnam & Singapore) and see changes in my hair & skin at each place. I’ve become so aware of it, when I travel I bring hair products to be prepared if the water will make my hair more or less curly. I do see a difference in how dry my skin is also.

I noticed my neighbor's white laundry on the line almost glowing white. She said it was the soft water. Mine became noticeably whiter. My skin problems disappeared!! It was wonderful for years. Now in my 60's have moved to an area with hard water and have developed skin rashes and acne !! My God. I have seen 4 drrmatologists and an allergist. I have no allergies. I have had multiple skin biopsies and the rash is not fungal or bacterial. They all say they dont know. The only thing that has changed is the WATER !! The water is definately a problem. I live in a small rural town in Illinois. The town is almost non existent now. I don't think the water is maintained as well as it used to be due to lack of funding. Chilean here, when I'm visiting my parents in the north part of the country water is VERY damaging cause there are a lot of minerals (calcium) in the soil so it's also running through our drinking water. Matter of fact, we HAVE to buy drinking water so as to not drink the hyper mineralized water that comes out of the tap and can cause dental problems even. Whilst when on vacation to the southern parts of Chile you get THE MOST clean water, my hair got the easiest curls, my skin was glowing shiny, you can feel the shampoo and soap actually washing off of your skin and hair when you take a shower and it shows afterwards too. So yeah, I do believe water matters A LOT. thanks for the video! very helpful :)

My hair and skin gets more greasy in a hard water place vs soft water place… yes, finally people who corroborate this!

I'm from the UK, I live in Ipswich which is known to have hard water, my hair always feels icky, my skin seems to be okay, but when I went to holiday in Cornwall even the water itself felt softer, my hair an skin were at their very best while there, so it definitely is worth while investing in a hard water remover. Great video guys xx

Moved from the city to a rural area about 3 years ago and I feel like my skin has aged 10+ years in the last 3. The products I’ve used forever now break me out. My skin gets irritated from the most basic products and any sunscreens, after being resilient/not sensitive for most of my life. I’m convinced it’s the water.

Yes!!! Live in MA now (has the least hard water and skin has never looked better as far as acne) and when I visit family back in OK my skin is so angry after my first shower. They have some of the hardest water. There's build up alllll over my families coffee makers, water spouts etc

Grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia water is 4-26 mg/L. Moved to Ottawa, Ontario, around 20 yrs old, water is 30 mg/L there, so no changes noticed. Then moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta the water is 209 mg/L been here 15+ years, skin is dry, irritated, red, I now have about half the amount of hair I had, major digestive issues, the list goes on and on. Just finally made the correlation of all these things with the hard water. We'll be installing a softener very soon. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, soaps, cleansers, shampoos, and detergents greatly matter depending on the type of water you have. I just tested every "soap" item in my home, and the majority of them don't play well with hard water.

My personal observation resonates with your hypothesis. I reside in the coastal city of Karachi where the water quality is affected because of the sea which makes my hair thin and my skin dull but when I visit the countryside, my hair suddenly becomes thicker and my skin is healthier because the water quality is better.

Houston has the worst water. My child moved there for college and their skin got horribly, notably worse. Every time I travel to Japan my skin gets noticeably better. I just came back and within a day I was itching and scratching my scalp like mad.

Hello! I love in the Midwest, USA- about 10 years ago, I moved to a rural area and the house was on a well (instead of city water). The house has a water softener, and my skin ABSOLUTELY 1,000% reacted better to soft water than when I lived in a house on city water. Not only my skin, but my hair also benefited from the change. The dishwasher cleans dishes better, and the washing machine cleans better because they're all using softened water. Of course there's a slight downside, there's a lot of rust in well water, so I buy the rust removing salt pellets for the softener. My skin is the first to notice when the softener is low on salt. I hated it at first because the water tastes funny, but I remedied that my buying a water cooler and filters for the fridge. I have seen influencers who provide insight on healthy hair recommend a water filter for the shower to help with hair health (Abbey Yung) so I definitely believe there is a correlation between the water hardness and the affect on skin. GREAT VIDEO, GUYS!! ❤

This is so interesting! So originally I’m from Brownsville, Texas and Ive always had dry skin issues, the biggest issue was with my hands. I’m a bit OCD and I started noticing my hands would become EXTREMELY scaly to the point where they would crack and I would bleed from washing my hands all the time. This was especially true during the winter time. I just assumed I had a skin condition. BUT ever since I moved to California (the Bay Area) I have not had this problem happen to me once! Sure they get dry, but never to that extreme. And every time I go back to Texas to visit, I notice my hands get dry super fast. I always assumed it was the change of weather/humidity, but now after watching this video, the water might be a big determining factor as well!

I grew up with naturally soft water and moved to an area with hard water in college. The impact on my hair was particularly noticeable. Having a water softener is immensely helpful. Whenever I go to the North Shore (Lutsen) of MN, I have amazing hair. I take a shower right before I go home so that I can enjoy the benefits for as long as possible.

Yes water from different regions affects the skin differently, but I would not rule out humidity/dryness factor of the region we live in. For instance my skin behaves differently in dry climate of Colorado where I live, as compared to humid climate of Florida. It is a major contributor too.

I have experienced back and forth skin struggles with changing places. The mild yet extremely concentrated chlorine in the city where I study created a significant shift in my skin and hair, resulting in numerous forms of breakouts and hair frizz. However, whenever I return home, the hard water there benefited my hair and skin. I believe the culprit here is chlorine concentration.

I recently moved from Bend Oregon to Walla Walla Washington. The water is high in calcium, magnesium and other minerals due to being so close to the Blue Mountains. I have been blessed with good skin my whole life, not perfect, but good skin. I am a registered nurse and since moving to WW my skin has suffered and upon doing my own research I found that Walla Walla’s water is rated one of the harshest as far as minerals in all of Oregon and Washington 😮 my skin since moving is now extremely dry and textured. I do feel the water plays a role in your skin and hair routine 🙏🏻❤️

Water can have both positive and negative effects on your skin. While staying hydrated is important for overall skin health, excessive exposure to water, especially hot water, and harsh chemicals in water can strip the skin of its natural oils and lead to dryness, irritation, and even breakouts. It's important to find a balance and use gentle cleansers and moisturizers to keep the skin hydrated and protected.

Moved from Naples FL to Colorado springs CO years ago, but will forever remember my first shower here. Did not unpack and hopped straight to bathe. When I got out, I was nearly screaming roaming through my suitcase looking for any cream at that point as I thought my face was going to crack from extreme dryness. Last year had to travel a lot for work and noticed differences in water. The worst was in California, my skin felt greasy from water, like I could not wash off the water itself, it felt oily. My hair was getting greasy the same day, just hours after washing it.

I moved from the USA to Mexico six years ago. Since we all know water in Mexico can carry pathogens that can make you sick, I put a whole-house water filter in my home. It has three different filters as well as well as a UV light process. I swear, I have never looked healthier. My hair has started growing longer and looks lush. My skin also looks more radiant and healthy. However, I can’t say that it is just the water. There are two other big changes that have also occurred: less stress and better diet. I moved to Central Mexico where life is more slow paced. My stress level is almost nil. I quit my antidepressants two years into the move. My blood pressure went from moderately high to normal in a year. Since stress ages a person, I think a lot of the reason my skin doesn’t looked aged is I’m not so uptight that I miss my self care. And my diet has gone from processed to fresh. I rarely buy processed foods anymore. I can get a huge range of veggies and fruits - as well as dairy and eggs - that have been small farm raised. There is almost zero frozen food choices. So part of my healthier skin may have a lot to do with diet. Regardless, the combination of better water, less stress, and fresher foods has me almost going backwards in aging - plus the fact I can get tretinoin without a prescription for $15 for the Retin-a brand. I swim in the stuff.

since I moved to the atlanta georgia area, my skin has been breaking out in little tiny white heads on a pretty daily basis. I originally thought they were heat bumps or heat sensitivity on my face, but when the winter came around -- they persisted! I too, am convinced that the water has been causing problems on my skin. Apparently the water rating is "soft", but I think the water change itself is the source of the problem. I feel as if our skin doesn't love change LOL

I grew up in Chicago and spent years after college in Boston MA. Both cities with great water IMO. No complaints. Then I moved abroad to Oxford UK and I didn’t have any skin issues personally but I did have issues with my hair and one of my young daughters developed painfully dry skin while we were there. We are in London now and the water is still hard here, but not AS hard as Oxford so the issues are manageable. But when I go up to Scotland I really savour the soft water up there as well as when I’m back in the States visiting family. Except for Florida. Florida water sucks.

In Alvin, Texas, where I've spent most of my life, the local water quality is widely recognized as subpar. The situation is evident in the fact that restaurants here opt to sell bottled water due to its unpleasant taste. Contrasting this with the neighboring city reveals a stark difference in water quality unique to our area. My Houston-based hairdresser conducted research prompted by consistent issues faced by clients from our small town, particularly with hair color retention post-treatment. This investigation unveiled that the water is a contributing factor. While I'm uncertain about its effects on skin, it's likely causing challenges for some individuals. Personally, I have normal skin and haven't encountered issues, but the overall impact on others is evident.
