I've been a Mavs fan long before Dirk won in 2011. Luka is a supernova in offense, no question about that. However, in defense, any objective observer will point out Luka's lack of laterals and/or effort in keeping up with his man. There's more than enough highlights available of that. Luka don't have to be a lock down defender. He just have to give full effort.

The only people who say any of those negative comments just don’t watch mavs ball. Even last year, Luka made it his business to lock in on the defensive side. He put so much effort that he was starting his own DPOY narrative as a joke. He played both sides the entire second half of the season for sure and all the way thru the playoffs. He was a top 10 defender at his position over that second half run. He went thru the entire playoffs on one leg and the ONLY time people had negative comments on his defense was against the Celtics and the only 5 out offense he faced. Not to mention the rest of his team folded against that same team leaving Luka as literally the ONLY offensive option. To be drained is not an excuse I’m making but it’s the truth. It was his first time going that far and he carried that yea the entire way even with Kai as his second help. In the okc series it was PJ that stepped up next to Luka and lively held it down the whole way. Kai showed vs the wolves mainly. Luka didn’t miss a game offensively even in his down games and he went hard on the defensive end the whole way. He was a turn style vs the one team with 5 playmakers on the floor, who run the floor top speed and shoot the light out behind the arc. He still balled offensively but didn’t have the gas in the end. Everyone learns that lesson, and again, he was on ONE LEG the entire playoffs and by the time he got to the finals he was getting shots in both knees to play. Throughout the playoffs, opposing defenders were literally targeting his injured knee. I’m glad someone finally made this video and stopped following the narrative

Good 1st video in basketball lol Discourse about Luka is insanely unfair because he doesn't get the credit he deserves, nor the benefit of the doubt like other star players get. People now are saying Nuggets front office is wasting Jokic prime years... nobody ever said anything when Luka had teammates like Frank Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway Jr., Trey Burke, Davis Bertans, Moses Brown, Minkley Wright, Moses Wright, Willie Cauley Stein, Reggie Bullock, Dwight Powell, Justin Jackson, Marquese Chriss, Javale Mcgee, Christian Wood. Luka legitimately was carrying a team half filled with g leaguers into the playoffs and was expected to win with that...

Sometimes numbers can be deceiving. I've watched almost all of the mavs games this year and I'm a fan of Luka, but some of the criticisms were very well founded. He has turned it around a lot since the injury, but to start the season he was taking bad shots, holding the ball way to long on many possessions then passing with 2 seconds on the clock for a teammate to make a bad shot attempt, he guards the weakest offensive player and still struggles especially on the pick and roll. I think 2 things can be true at once though. He's not bad because of those things, it was just keeping him from his full potential. The expectation on Luka right now is MVP caliber play and a championship. They have the team to do it, he just needs to stay out of his own way long enough to complete the trip.
@WalkinWhiskeyКүн бұрын
100% He started off slow and took many bad shots. The team needs him at his best and when hes most confident, so the only solution to get him off of a slump was to make him shoot over and over till he figured it out.But yes, major criticisms at the beggining of the season (around first 10 games) were super fair considering the high standards he has set
@barryhoward799722 сағат бұрын
I think you have it correct. I am a fan and I agree with you. None the less, if he can guard the worst player on the other teams offence, and get the rebounds and steals, we have to consider that it an improved defense. I think the easiest stat is L10. They are 8 and 2 their last 10 games. Including an embarrassing loss to the Thunder on an extended road trip. The Thunder just got a taste of the same thing from the Bucks. PJ is some kind of player on a quality team that I'm enjoying again this year. And if Clay can become consistent, WOW. A very enjoyable team over all that has proven that they can over achieve while making it to the finals last year. I enjoy your take, and consider it very reasonable. Good job!

@@Cutedoggo2 His numbers dont even need to come up. We've got a TON of options. The team is so deep right now that even with Hardy and Maxi out, we can field a solid lineup that's not gonna lose games. Our starting 5 is as good as anyone in the NBA, and our next 5 dudes off the bench would still compete with Trailblazers/Jazz/Raptors starting 5. Literally everyone in dallas' starting 5 (6, since lively and gafford swap a lot) is a PROBLEM, and all that means is luka doesnt NEED to be the driver of the team. The talk show narratives wont stop, even if his numbers come up, so the only thing the mavs can do is the same thing the nuggets did. Just win.
