Hey Alex, would you recommend adding WiFi 6 to a Unifi infrastructure? If so, do you use this as the router or use the UDM or USG as router?

Is your Samsung Phone AX WiFi 6 enabled? I’m currently using The modem/router combo that is issued by the ISP (AT&T) with Fiber 100 my speed test can get about 125 mbps. I don’t have any WiFi 6 devices. But I do have a lot of WIFi devices connected like iPhones ,iPads, Security System,Irrigation System, 4K TV’s, Smart Plugs, Smart Lights. I’m just wondering if it’s worth getting the WiFi 6 Nighthawk or Orbi mesh router.

Just a recommendation for future videos - WiFi Sweet spots is great but it only measures throughput in the upstream direction Phone->AP. It works by sending junk IP packets that get discarded at the router but still transfers over WiFi, there's no way for it to trigger this in the opposite (download) direction. IPerf3 is an awesome tool that can be loaded on most devices for full bidirectional TCP and UDP performance testing.

Sorry I feel your test could be flawed firstly the window is not a real example of every day use and or range due to the street lamps & or anything that is under the ground is power cables & also your over elevated position, also if anyone else has an open router or repeater your can blind hop on it for connectivity services ie the App you are using just like any network sniffer app. Also there is a transmission umbrella of radial transmission which has a fall off depending on amplitude or antenna power. I also believe by the simplicity of 8-pwr that it should have a theoretical bandwidth of 16gb not 8x8x8x2 which is 1024 around 1gb, if this is the case then we are being heavily throttled and by unlocking the mechanism we could have a huge band width. The night hawk sound like its marketing rubbish and everyone is listening to it. Please do you Network Architecture calculations before doing reviews even if unrealistic... As people believe what they see these days

He could have done, but think about the channel you're watching... Also WiFi Sweet Spots measures the link speed to the access point perfectly fine, whereas iperf measures the throughput to the server you're connecting to I'm pretty sure.
@francocastilloAR
@francocastilloAR 4 жыл бұрын
@@supremeicecreme1658 If you talk about WiFi and more about WiFi AX, you can also talk about server and client, iperf and terminal, which is very simple to do in THIS ONLY test. I can believe that using that App is fine when you are testing a mesh network or similar for a matter of jumps, but if it is in such a common scenario that is the video, I would say that it is better with a local server. Also, what matters is the speed of the local network, not the internet.

@@supremeicecreme1658 And how do you test the WiFi speed if you don't connect to the internet and there isn't an iperf-style server? The only thing that occurs to me is that the smartphone acts as a server and client, therefore the traffic of the app comes and goes.

This is complete BS your testing the link speed between the router and device not actual WiFi speed, plus you only have 1 device connected to the router. Load it up with 15 different devices on a mixture of b/g/n a and AC have them pulling a few mbps each to simulate a real world environment and then see if it does anything better and a standard dual band router
@supremeicecreme1658
@supremeicecreme1658 4 жыл бұрын
The link between the device and the access point/router *IS* the WiFi speed. If he were to test *broadband* speed (connection out to the internet) you're unlikely to see much of a difference when close to the router, and in this example you're not going to show off the extreme benefits of using WiFi 6. Not everything involves using fast internet. Think about if you're using Plex or something similar on your phone? That's what WiFi 6 is about - removing that bottleneck between the end device and the access point.

Defo on this as the reference that Netgear makes is not to band width ie gHz it is to certification. I am going to find my lecture books on this and see if I can explain the academics as the whole 802 thing is so being misrepresented by the marketing spin. 6gHz and 5gHz and 2.4 gHz is not a straight forward 2,400,000 Hz conversion as it takes into account applitude as well as band width, by widening the bandwidth does not increase the gHz
