@@Johnadams20760 My young friend. I was born in 1949. Back then, we knew everything said by Chamberlain or surrounding his feats should be taken with a grain of salt. Sadly, Wilt wasn't stronger than World Class powerlifters. People always exaggerated about what they saw. People and Chamberlain made up records (100, 200, 400 yards, shot put, high jump). But, when he competed, he ranked in the top 50, but never cracked the top 10, except in high jumps. If his records were true, he should had won every competition he appeared in. It wasn't the case. We have records of his wins in HS and in college. We're far from the 6'10 he claimed he had. On a sidenote, Bill Russell cleared 6'10.25" in NCAA during an official competition and was then ranked 6th in the World!

I wonder if we can have a discussion here. Arnold said, and He worked with people who took the whole drugstore while preparing for Mr. Olympia events, that WILT IS THE STRONGEST GUY that He ever worked with. AGAIN: NBA player, no matter what height/size was STRONGER than any bodybuilders on ton of steroinds. Late great David Stern took the league in 1984 and from then we had a drug tests for NBA players. BEFORE THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN so ... Either You believe that Wilt was a superhuman or He got a serum for Captain America super solider or ... HE WAS ON STEROIDS His whole carrer. FINAL QUESTION IS SIMPLE: Do You believe that Wilt was one for the ages that could NATURALLLLLY be stronger than BEST OF THE BEST bodybuilders on steroinds? If not ... then we have to start to look at Wilts stats A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. Imagine being close to 7"2, 300 lbs on steroids, jumping like 40" at least in era without any Bigs.

If Wilt were to take steroids, I would only entertain that idea when he got into his fifties. Wilt Chamberlain was strong and an elite basketball player. But, he was a master in changing the narrative about himself : he lied about his shot put, his running times and his jumping results, even if he competed in the Public League Track Championships from 1953 to 1955 (he won two high jumping events in 1953 and 1955). Then, he high jumped 6'6.75" in college and failed to clear +6'7. The triceps extension of 150-170 is strong, but not World Strongest Man title worthy. Back in the days, Bill Kazmaier pushed 240 for repetitions (the whole stack) and even added weight into it. Bill Kazmaier was legitimately the strongest man to ever walk this earth. On the bench, he "struggled" to put weight on the bar because he was tall for a strongman 6'3" and 330 lbs! The thing about Chamberlain is we would never know the truth, because Chamberlain was an incredible storyteller and he tend to make himself bigger than life (Jerry West said it multiple times). In short, Chamberlain was indeed strong, but not as strong as the mythical Wilt Chamberlain.

The kid is right about this one. Also, Chamberlain didn't even ranked in the top 50 in shot put and in the 100, 200 and 400 yard dash. His "records" don't make any sense. If you're able to achieve something in practice, you are 120% sure he would be able to achieve it during the competition. Chamberlain was a fierce competitor, not someone who folded under the pressure.

@Johnadams20760 The problem with Wilt Chamberlain... Is he claimed to have a 6'10" record jump, a 52 inches vertical, a 600 lbs bench... But, officials and the Warriors had measurements which disproved his claims. He Warriors measured his max reach with a running start at 12'9! If he was able to reach 13', his vertical would be 41.6 inches! Far from the 52 inches he claimed. Bill Russell jumped years prior 6'9.25" and would had ranked 6th in the world if he competed in Olympics. I acknowledge his athletic abilities, but he wasn't the mythical creature he presented himself. He competed in athletics (ranked in the top 60 in multiple events), but he wasn't approaching anything he claimed he was able to do! Facts over feelings.

The thing is, two two strongmen of the time said they saw Mr. Anderson achieving an incredible back lift (the record was held by Louis Cyr). He never even came close of tying the record. Bodybuilders in general are not very strong, because strength is only one component of muscle size, with the other being volume. Strength increase causes muscular and tendom hyperttrophy, while volume causes increase in mitochondria and glycogen storage capacity, which also increases the size of a muscle. But Arnold just happened to be stupid, stupid strong. Arnold would bench 525 lbs for 10-12 reps on the flat bench(his record for that weight was 14 reps), and do a single with 690 lbs, which makes him even today one of the top #1-3 atrongest raw benchers ever. He could do triples with 300 lbs on the Arnold Press, which is a frontal barbell press. Arnold was so ridiculously strong that he actually surpassed the strength of even the strongest powerlifters on some lift, like the clean and jerk where he pushed 600 lbs and on the flat bench at which, like I said, he clocked at almost 700 lbs for s single But if Arnold says that Wilt Chamberalin was even stronger than him, then I believe him. Wilt is notorious for being the most freakish physical specimen ever, so I wouldn't be surprised. But here is the thing that no one is taking into consideration : Arnold in his prime was 6'1 1/2. He is now 2-3" shorter because he's 77 yuears old and on top of that bodybuilders and powerlifters tend to shrink more than most men do in old age due to the stress on their spline. Wilt was 7'1, and with a wider frame than Arnold as well. If you adjust for the fact that Wilt was a foot taller than Arnold with wider shoulders and bigger joints, Arnold was actually stronger than him. A 7'1 version of Arnold could probably do 500 lbs Arnold Presses for reps, and do a single of 1,300 lbs on the flat bench, which is almost at the level of strength of a lowland gorilla.(a male gorilla could bench raw 2,000-4,500 lbs raw depending on who you ask. Pound-for-pound, Arnold was definitely stronger, although in abgsolute strength Wilt was stronger since he was over 7' and a freak athlete.
@BulletBill-yb3tiАй бұрын
I don't think you can just linearly increase Arnold's lifts like that if he was 7'1" he may do more, but often times a longer reach hurts in some lifts.
@NeilHartman-o8hАй бұрын
@@BulletBill-yb3ti It's true that when you're taller that your arms will be longer, and that longer arms takes away from your strength in some exercises bv increasing the distance of pull. But the relationship betwen height and strength *IS* linear. All else being equal, the taller man will be stronger. Why? Because the taller you are, the more cells you have, inclusing muscle cells, and including the more cells to support the strength of your muscle cells, like having thicker tendons and thicker bones to support the strength. It is the same reason for why a human adult is much, much, much, much stronger than a toddler. If Arnie were 7'1, he'd have naturally 20% more cells than he has including muscle cells, thicker bones(because when you grow taller, your bones also grow thicker to b5ecome proportional with the greater length of the bone), thicker tendons, etc. Saying that height doesn't make you stronger is the equivalent to saying that an adult is not stronger than a toddler. If you look at boxing and MMA, they are divided into weight classes. There aren't many heavyweight or even ligh-heavyweight fighters that are 5'7. Why? Because the taller you are, on average, the more cells you are going to have and the heavier you'll be. Height correlates with weight because it correlates with the number of cells that you have.

@@NeilHartman-o8h " All else being equal, the taller man will be stronger." Replace taller with heavier and you are correct. Height correlates with weight but does not guarantee someone will be heavier. Bone frame and other genetic factors will come into play.
@NeilHartman-o8hАй бұрын
@@BulletBill-yb3ti No, it has nothing to do with being heavier. If that were the case, then the strongest man in the World would be the most obese, which is not the case. Strength has to do with lean body mass, not weight. Height correlates with lean body mass, which is why taller men tend to be stronger. Lean b5ody mass, not the same as "weight", which can be lean body mass but also can be bodyfat which does not make you stronger.. I am blocking you now.
