I personally love the idea of SummerSlam being a bigger deal. One reason I got back into wrestling was because I wanted something to watch when football ended and WrestleMania season was perfect timing. Usually I dial back the wrestling when NFL starts, and having SummerSlam be a bigger deal makes them perfect bookends between football season.

From a business perspective making summerslam a big deal makes sense solely from the fact that to the fans "WrestleMania main event" or "feud climaxed at wrestlemania" is a must. But sometimes you just can't do it all in WrestleMania. And you gotta wait an entire year to run it back. Plus WrestleMania season is incredibly buzzing and if you miss it, you gotta wait another year to do buzzworthy things but that might means it runs outta steam by then eg. LA knight. Also money

I think Summerslam and Royal Rumble are the only other WWE Shows they can do it for. Never a 2 night Money In The Bank show or Survivor Series. I think it'll pan out okay and we'll get so much worth while story content coming out of it that the WWE can ride on all of that through to the start of Mania season again. I am worried that this could lead to more 2 day events, I draw the line at being okay with Summerslam doing it, please nothing else though.

Honestly, a two night RR makes less sense than people give it credit for. Everyone thinks you can split up the men's and women's Rumble matches, maybe if you did one at the beginning of January and kept the other at the end of January or something, but the problem with them sharing a weekend is so much of the rosters are in the Rumble matches. They usually throw a couple world title matches and find two other people to fill a spot since most of the relevant talent will be in the Rumbles. Honestly, with them going to Summerslam for two nights, I wish MITB was folded into Summerslam, have the men's on one night and the women's on the other, but they will not do that since MITB has become such a big event on its own. Honestly, if anything, adding another two night event would probably make more sense in adding something new to the calendar. Maybe an International 2-Day PLE treated on the level of Summerslam.

I'm definitely in the "this is a silly idea" camp. Summerslam just doesn't need to be two nights. This is just gonna start a trickle down that turns the Rumble in to two nights and like you mentioned, it's gonna make Mania feel less special. It just feels like a very obvious cash grab for WWE. Because instead of an 8-10 match card for one night, they're just going to have the same amount of matches over two nights. More money from ticket sales and more money from sponsors while still giving roughly the same amount of content for the fans in attendance.

I personally only see positives. More money will be made for all parties (the company, the city, the wrestlers), more merchandise will be sold, double the amount of tickets, more wrestlers get on the card with storyline payoffs at a PLE, and I get what you’re saying about how Wrestlemania should be the only 2 night PLE because it special, but maybe, just maybe, looking at it from the other perspective, which is that more events should have 2 nights and that it shouldn’t be a special thing and it should just be the norm. Just my opinion though, as always respect yours Simon!

I think wwe should flip flop. When mania is 2 nights, have a one night summerslam. When mania is one night, 2 night summerslam. I frankly like the long shows because that allows fans to have parties with friends, and have a ppv on in the background. But I don’t think these long shows should go into the night, start it in the morning, and end it in the evening.

I’m cool with two nights of summer slam and Wrestle Mania as long as theyre the only ones to do it. Rumble and Survivor series stick to they’re gimmick matches if they make war games a replacement too the survivor series matches i’m a little bummed they should do one of each or give the tag teams an eight on eight survivor series in between the war games

Mania, Summerslam and Survivor Series Survivor Series should merge with K/QotR and have a full tourney or just semis for time purposes on night 1 with both championships on the line in separate matches. Night 2 is the annual team based matches plus the winners of the tournaments going on to face the championships The K/QotR really pushes the survivor narrative. Maybe add a midcard rumble as well for a shot at the US/IC title at Day 1

I actually don’t mind Summer Slam being 2 days, Rhodes vs someone co main for United States championship Night 1, then Night 2 face the Rock for the Big belt in the main event to close out the 2 day biggest Ppv of the season. That said, please keep Royal Rumble one day and one winner.

And with WWE trying to be more global, you can have either WM or SS now overseas one year. Imagine SS'27 in Wembley (2 nights celebrating 35 yr anniversary)? Lastly, I'd rather have this over a "TKO weekend".

This feels like they're pulling the cart before the horse. Summerslam can be 2 nights if they have 2 nights worth of storylines and matches. Recently Summerslam (and Survivor Series) hasn't really had one nights worth of well-booked matches. The Big 4 PPVs for WWE are really WM, the Rumble, MITB, and...maybe a Saudi show? Summerslam hasn't really felt that big for a really long time. Maybe this will fix that?

Simon, you’ve had the pleasure of going to a two night Wrestlemania. That’s an experience a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to do, given the time of year it is held. SummerSlam comes at a time of the year where people can take advantage of the dates to travel. This is one subject I wholeheartedly disagree with you on as your “tastes” doesn’t really speak for a wider audience. That’s not signs of a big mistake by WWE, that’s just a good business move to meet demands.

Honestly, I've always saw Survivor Series and Royal Rumble higher in the hierarchy in WWE PPVs. Wrestlemania is the big one, and Survivor Series and Royal Rumble had signature gimmicks that made them worth anticipating (also my birthday is in November so some years Survivor Series landed on my birthday). It's why I was sad when they stopped doing King of the Ring as its own PPV, I thought the tournament style PPV was a great gimmick and worth the anticipation. Summerslam doesn't have a gimmick other than it's in the summer.

I'm also not sure about the 2 night SummerSlam .. not sure how they will fill the extra time (I'm sure they'll figure something out) ... I also agree that the Royal Rumble would do good on a 2 night schedule.... but if they were going to start 2 night PPVs (PLEs) I would personally prefer they to do it at Survivor Series! Bring back a bunch of the classic SS matches and then end with wargames. But that's just my opinion.

SS has always been promoted and known as "the WM of the summer", that's why. There are 4 major events in the WWE calendar, but WM and SS are the 2 events where WWE tries to go all out on the card. RR isn't an event that they are going to add another night to(conceivably) because it is just a setup event to kick off the road to WM season. Logistically, it doesn't make sense to add another night to RR when they try to save money matches for WM.

The one thing the WWE is totally flubbing, is the less is more. They are just doing way too much and so much is starting to feel less and less special. This year’s King of The Ring was nothing more than a really good Raw. WM 2 days fine, everything else should be one day. I miss the days of 3hr shows and WM was 4.

Summerslam is in the middle of winter here in Australia. I don't mind Mania being over 2 nights 'cause that seems about right to tie off all the stories. A two night Summerslam though? I think, and all the signs point to this, is all four Crown Jewels, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble are all two day events. The later two are pre designed for a two day run. I would even speculate that the test run of a two day event overseas would be a SS or Rumble. I can just imagine a Rumble in Wembly, with the count down…chills. Especially with how ridiculous the Lyon France event with the crowd, they can ignore the possibilities.

While another Women's only PPV would be nice, having a Royal Rumble for them involves 30 women. Then take into account adding several other matches on the card, likely all for the rest of the titles (Women's, Women's World, Tag Titles, NXT & NXT North American), that's a least a bare minumum of another 12 women, so a total of 42 women at an absolute minimum, then you need to take into account any additional matches or some matches involving more women it's not standard matches for the titles. WWE would be struggling to find the right people to put in all the matches, even if you account for NXT's roster and names they can bring in names from the past to fill the Rumble

I do like the king and queen get a title shot. But you want to make the mid card title feel relevant. that's exactly how to do it. Make it for those titles. The main event titles have too many gimmicks already for them. Money in the bank and the royal rumble. As far as the 2 night idea. WWE for a few years now have stated that they wanted to make Summerslam as big as Wrestlemania. The only way they could properly really do it is to make them the same length. So the Big 4 are going to be in US and the other events every year will be international. So my theory is that the Big 4 will become 2 night events, which balances 8 nights in the US and 8 nights in international events. Lets you do a Rumble on each night of the Rumble, a Wargames on each night of Survivor Series. I also think they need to cut down on teh video packages and entrances, bc if you can't fill us in on why the match matters in 1 minute, you are failing at storytelling. Make every night about 7 matches instead of 5 and it would be about as long as we have been having recently. Hard to have newer talents or more midcard that aren't title matches at events if we only have 5 matches any given PPV

@@neilgannon205 if they continue doing Wargames every year that is one large match for each night. 2 nights for shows makes more sense when we consider how full the roster is and trying to get more storylines going

I like the idea of a 2 night PLE, at least for the big 4. HHH likes to do only 5 match PLE's and it feels way too short. A PLE should at least be a little longer than an episode of Raw, and KQOTR was less than 3 hours. They should at least put 6 matches on the minor PLE's, and if they do 2 nights on the big 4 then that would be cool with me. They have so many top tier superstars and so many stories it would be nice to be able to see big stories advance.

Agreeing with Simon here. If you make Summer Slam 2 days long, you end up taking away from WrestleMania. Plus, it opens up the possibility for more PLEs to be 2 days long.

I feel Summer Slam will do exactly what each PLE is currently doing over the two nights. 5 matches per night - 10 in total. You could argue WrestleMania is 12-15 matchds

i do not have a issue with it being 2 nights. As long as there is enough stories being told across both brands. It will allow more talent to make it onto a big show. Unlike the previous scenario which just seemed to be a Battle Royal ( still there i know). The build to these past WM 2 night events has been awesome as a fan from Sydney, Aust. The way the company just seems to keep growing it feels like it is a natural move to make, in my opinion.

I know I'm late to the party on this, but what if the goal is to make summer slam 2 nights because wrestlemania could be like, the Olympics but not as long in between events, like a 4 day event but like, every other year or something. I dunno I think that would justify summer slam being 2 nights

A 2 night Summerslam sounds great too me. I can't wait for Survivor Series and Royal Rumble to follow. Nights 1 and 2 dont even have to be in the same city.

Simon you're wrong about the two night thing detracting from WrestleMania though I see where you're coming from. When Mania was one night only was it any less special because the other ppvs were too? No and Summer Slam going 2 nights won't make any difference to Mania as long as the cards and build ups are on point. Where it will be a detraction from our entertainment is the door being open for even more advertising as you mentioned which has been getting more and more on my nerves in the last few years but it's here to stay and will get worse so they better keep the stories and action on point
