The director of this mv is Cho Giseok who also directed Girl Gang and Woke Up. Anyone who has never heard of him or isn't familiar with his work, he is a surrealist artist. He's good at blending surrealism with cultural realism in his music videos and you can see a lot of that in Howling. Anyway, it's a very avant-garde art movement, just like XG's experimental and unconventional style. I love how XG are constantly evolving and breaking boundaries. They're truly a cut above the rest.

The four warriors, Jurin, Harvey, Maya and Cocona, their scenes had to be chaotic because they were just kicking ass. The three goddesses, Chisa, Hinata and Juria, were calm but destructive. A true masterpiece. I couldn't wait to see this reaction!

Also, the 4 warriors are the rappers (quick paced and harder hitting form of music) in the group, whilst the goddesses are the singers (more slow and melodic). Don't get me wrong, all of them can sing, but if there is any rapping section in their songs, it will come from either Jurin, Harvey, Maya or Cocona.

I think it's the opposite. Nowadays, everyone is soo used to this "fast living", we can onnly concentrate for 3 seconds and then we scroll for the next video, for children, movies are too long and boring because they cannot sit straight for 1.5 hours. I love the visuals and everything about this music video, except that we do not get the time to appreciate it. Way too fast, way too flashy. I hope they will change their editing style in the future because the materials they used for this were the masterpiece and now it's shadowed.

I am only criticizing that almost all shots were very flashy and shown very shortly. I didn't even realize first that there were a few clips which were shown for longer because my brain got so exhausted from the very short clips. I was simply overstimulated by the amount of things that were shown at the same time

9:11 and you said it. the first time i saw that Harvey scene i thought it was jarring too, but watching it again, you can see it makes perfect sense. I love polluted visuals where you can still follow whats going on and I think its one hell of a challenge to direct/edit in that way. XG as an act always steps up to the challenge and they always crush it. Their team is amazing, they keep me forever excited to see what comes next.

I think this is a case where the editing works in reverse, the shots being chaotic and crazy enhance the early jurin/harvey duo raps in both parts, they are meant to feel like an attack. Maya starts the slow down into chorus…but overall much like with our senses here the theme of the vid is the aliens overwhelm the planet like they overwhelm us. I think that feeling is meant to exist as a result.

The warriors, who are Jurin, Harvey, Cocona, and Harvey, are in a battle zone, so of course, their scenes/verses have chaotic editing compared to the goddesses, Juria, Chisa, and Hinata, who are calm but still destructive; it's like brains vs. brawns but if they worked together while still getting the job done. It's such a smart and beautiful way to depict what's going on in a music video, and it's so well done, especially when it's understood.

Too much I think is subjective, but IMO, I miss this kind of feeling when I watch MV... I mean we have some awesome visuals back then with MV, like Katy Perry's Wide Awake, or even in monochromatic Gaga's Bad Romance... Moreover, as a creative makeup artist, I need this kind of "out of the box" visual... I agree the video is overwhelming but it works with the story so well and I feel it made me connect emotionally to it more. XG are literally overwhelming this planet in order to bring back natural order. Love that you mentioned Annihilation as I noticed that too (one of my favorite movies). What an undeniable masterpiece. I can only imagine it even more magnified as if I were watching this on a theater screen with THX-certified speakers. Possibly similar to hearing "On your left" during End Game with and without the audience going bonkers to level up the whole experience. Plus the detailed and dominant actions with the rap line as the ground movement assault team of floral veggie power, and the vocal line as the overwhelming mass destructive indirect organic chaos on a goddess level is just visually cray-cray yummy-licious-ness.
