Hahaha, yes! I remember seeing this as a kid, it's still hysterical. They used to show tons of Tom and Jerry cartoons in a row on Saturday morning. I'd watch them whichever they were, but there were a few(this was high on the list)that were especially awesome, and if they came on it was like hitting the jackpot(back when you couldnt just go to KZbin to see whatever/whenever you wanted) . We had to wait and wait for these exciting little moments, you spoiled youngsters! *shakes cane in air* 😆

He's black. Ira "Buck" Woods does the Tom and Jerry version, but there's a slower version on "The Best of Louis Jordan with his Tympany Five" album. There's a version by Dinah Washington too, as well as by many other singers. I like these three, but like the Louis Jordan version best.

I woke up this morning and typed this song in to play for my girlfriend. This is my favorite version because it's up tempo and has that drop off to that dreary New Orleans style jazz for the last chorus. Then I seen your reaction video so I checked it out. "Can't hear color"... Oh yes you can and there's nothing wrong or racist about it. You can also hear emotion and soul. This is how I was exposed to this music, through cartoons. I grew up very rural with no kids my age, except on the long bus ride to school. Tom & Jerry, even The Flintstones & Jetsons aired a lot of jazz in their episodes. How else would I have ever heard this great music, my neighbors were bluegrass musicians and my mom listened to CCR, Zeppelin and other rock music, which I loved. I think this is what made my music choices so expansive. Maybe when I was a little kid I didn't hear the color of a singer, but in my teens I could easily put a face to a singer. Not to divide or any sinister reason. I absolutely loved George Thorogood, who played a lot of covers, he lead me down the rabbit hole to find Bo Diddley and other bluesman. Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy really appealed to me. Listen to "Mannish Boy" and tell me it's not an awesome song. Buddy Guy had huge lungs and played guitar like a mad man. Of course, once you go deep in to the music, you keep looking for more and more because there's a lot to miss. I know some people aren't obsessed with music and it just doesn't excite them like it does others, but it made me buy a guitar and later a bass guitar. I don't like the erase history movement going on today, because it puts these great recording at risk. Kids are pure, they hear things and it can put them on a positive path. I didn't see black as a negative, most of the time, just like this video, they become a piece of you. Anyway, I've been called racist for whatever reason, I just ignore it because I know that I'm far from it. I can list more great black Americans than most black people can. Like this song. Are there black guys sitting at home listening to Albert King or Leadbelly? Blacks need a revival, they need to go back and listen to these positive songs that were recorded in bad times. I know not everyone is like a music lover who spends a lifetime searching out great songs, but at the same time, this is black history and a tremendous part of the culture that should bring real joy and appreciation in to their lives. Sorry, I ramble because I love the music and it excites me. Just listen to Mannish Boy and tell me that Muddy doesn't pull you in right from the start. It does me. Anyway, great video. I also have the Tom & Jerry box set.

I grew up the same way, lived in a rural area(N Mid TN. 70s/80s) Heard lots of great bluegrass n country music with my grandfolks n Dad. Mom liked rocking with The Beatles, The Stones, CCR and others. My Stepdad enjoyed RnB and guys like Neil Diamond, B J Thomas and other groups that would later be called " Easy Listening". Thru the 70s/early/mid 80s, Top 40 was a huge source of music for me, you heard it all from Blondie, Lynyrd Skynard, Journey, Donna Summer, Duran Duran... You get the picture. And Sat Morning toons like Tom n Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Kidd Video, and many, many others. Plus, you had programs Like American Bandstand(R.I.P. Dick Clark), Solid Gold, and Soul Train on Saturdays as well. Later on, my tastes ran towards Hard Rock/Heavy/Hair Metal with frequent side trips into Comedy/Novelty acts like Ray Stevens, Weird Al, and others. Even an detour into Funk/Rap/Hip Hop Wasn t unusual. For example, I really enjoyed Young M C , he made great rap without the violence, profanity, n meanness that later came from others. I even found great music from watching Monster Truck videos. Good music is out there. You just have too look. And listen with an open mind.....and a open ear.😁😎 Thanks for posting.

In answer to your question, the singer was Ira "Buck" Woods. He was black. Here's his IMDB page. www.imdb.com/name/nm0940526/ . if you scroll down to the filmography section on that page, the 6th item listed is this Tom & Jerry cartoon. There's also a frame from one of those movies that he is in, and yes, he is indeed black.

I happen to know he is black . . . But that particular tone can be imitated, mind you. So, yes, there are tones which exist; not so much as ethnic subdivisions, but as cultural ones. For example, I once had a black roommate who befriended a guy from Detroit; on the phone, this dude sounded like an inner city black guy . . . But turns out he was a white redhead. Because he grew up in a black neighborhood and picked up the tone and cadence from the folks around him. As another example, I can do a pretty decent Barry White imitation doing karaoke . . . And, this one time, a black gal came through the crowd, saw my pale white butt a-singing some Barry, and shouted out, "How can a white boy sing so dark??"

Not sure if this how you request a song or start a friendly debate but, I believe the all time best love song (romantic) is "Always and Forever 1976 " by Heatwave. Amazing vocals beautiful lyrics and as smooth as silk. Imagine being at a high school dance and asking that one girl, or if you are a girl that one guy asking you to dance, and they say Yes 👍 and the song the DJ plays is "Always and Forever" or even better your first dance as Husband and Wife. If there is a better Romantic song! I haven't heard it. If you have ever done a challenge I think this would be a great one with people voting between songs, with the winner going on to the next challenge or something like that. If not than just listen to Heat waves "Always and Forever" it has been covered by others but theirs I believe is the original and the best.
