I have the exact same heater for my betta tank! I initially bought a preset heater and almost cooked my fish! It didn't turn off when the tank reached the preset range! After alot of research online I found the hygger heaters on Amazon. It only cost $15 and works perfectly in my 10 gallon planted tank. I love that you can adjust the temperature without taking the actual heater out and that it gives a clear digital reading of the temperature at all times. Betta is happy, plants are happy and shrimp (also in tank) are happy. Absolutely best heater I've used!

There's a cold water betta relative, the Paradise Fish. There are several species and color morphs. You won't find good-looking ones in the States though.

Even in a warm state like Texas you get the occasional freeze out. A week with out power took my betta to the brink of death. When the power started coming on only about 2hrs a day I wrapped his tank with a blanket. He survived the freeze but not the effects of it. He developed dropsy and was gone the morning of March 8th, my 23yr old was devastated. We had gotten Betta Blue just before the pandemic outbreak. He was a blue crowntail. Last week I took him to some local pet stores and we rescued a red veiltail male and blue veiltail female that was on last Monday and by Friday we had baby fry. He's so excited now I even got him a couple of new tanks. I even rescued a pair of blue crowntail for my self. I named them Betta Max & VHS then had to explain to 13 why that was so funny to me. Sorry for the long winded reply. Thank you for your videos we both enjoy them.

Great content,, Taylor. I've used those Hyggers and like them, but after a few months, the display gets scummed up and impossible to read. Have you had that issue at all? Vivosun makes a tube heater w/ similar external adjustment that I'm using in couple of tanks.

I’m new to this hobby but I experiment between my - now - six tanks (from only one last September 🤦‍♀️) with different equipment for each tank. This is DEFINITELY my favorite heater. I keep it in my betta’s tank because of its ease, its reliability, and its easy-to-see display. I had the smaller 25w Hygger heater like this break very quickly after only a few months on my 3 gallon. I’ve been worried a bit about my 50w so I watch it carefully and I turn off its power when I do water changes. Yesterday, our power went out for a bit because of a blizzard and I put in a probe thermometer into my betta’s tank to monitor the temp. Once the power came back on, the probe and the Hygger heater have had the same readings for the past day. I really love this heater too!

Hey Taylor, I am re watching some of your older videos because KZbin has changed your status in my feed. If I watch a few of your shows in a row then maybe? Possibly, perhaps? I have changed my need for heat in my tanks. I use the same digital thermometer for all my tanks. So Kerry, Carries, Kerry's thermometer in his shirt pocket. I am between Bettas right now but I want to set up a nice home for a good quality Betta. My tank temps run 76F with no heat. I set my heater to pick up to 77F I see SICCE has their new ones set at 77F. Hygger is no longer the only heater with a low level shut off and as far as I am concerned all heaters should have that feature. I will not put a glass tube in my aquariums any longer, I have been shocked and lost fish so no thanks. Many heaters now come with a metal tube and a "Inkbird," style safety switch for the price of the Inkbird itself. So many changes! Anyway I hope your videos start showing up. Heaters are a must here in Canada and my house sits at 68F during the day and 64F at night. It looks like a neat little heater and I will give it a shot the next time I need one. Totally agree! Why get your hands and arms all wet and mess up your aquascape when you just want to fine tune your heat just a little bit? Right?! Not silly at all. The dials are so unprecise. I had a very small heater that was a preset one in my 2 1/2 g tank, went to do a water change and the water was 🔥. It was 90, I had 2 mystery snails and 1 nerite that I quickly took out. They all survived. The community tank is the only one now that I have a adjustable heater, it's a 10 gallon. I may want to upgrade it. Thanks for the video 🙂

Oh man, I'm glad the inhabitants were alright! Malfunctioning heater thoughts make me nervous, it's why I tend to choose lower powered heaters for the water volume I'm heating. Heating a 20g? Use a heater meant for a 10g! Haha works fine for me

I have two Eheim's and two other tube heaters, but I hate trying to get an accurate temp with them, and I hate having to get my hands wet every time I need to adjust a temperature. I'm terrified of my heaters malfunctioning and cooking my fish alive. I've had that happen before with the Tetra Submersible heater. I am slowly putting all my heaters on an external temperature controller for an extra level of protection. I've tried so many different heaters and spent hours and hours reading amazon reviews trying to find one I could trust. I'm so glad you made this video! Edit 1: I just looked at the amazon reviews of the Hygger in your link, and there are a lot of people saying that the temperature sensor is faulty or it stops working after only a year. How many of these heaters do you have? Have they all worked perfectly? Edit 2: Have you had any problems with the Eheims over-heating or the temperature sensor malfunctioning?

I have like 12 of these running at the moment, the worst that has happened is one temperature display has gone a little wonky but still works fine. It's probably like any other aquarium heater in that they still break fairly easy. Aquarium co-op has a livestream a while ago where he ranted about aquarium heaters and all the ways they can break on you. At least these ones won't break due to water not covering them during water changes, and that is a nice selling point for me! My eheims have done pretty well, I've broken a few due to water changes (oops) but I don't believe I've had any malfunction and like, cook my fish.

Oh! If possible, I like to use heaters that are rated for smaller tanks than what I use them for. Not all the time of course, but like if you're worried about malfunctions and fish-cooking adn you have a 20g, you could consider using a heater rated for a 10 or less. It will still bump the water up a few degrees and, if it breaks and turns "ON" and tries to boil your fish, it won't have the power to do too much damage

Even living in a nice 'tropical' place (South Australia) and not a freezing hellhole LOL I still have to use heaters in my tanks. The air conditioner in Summer drops the ambient room temperature to whatever we prefer, not enough to keep the tanks warm. Hi! I’ve seen these Hygger heaters in Amazon the 50w model like you show here and a 10 watt model that has the traditional glass tube design and has the adjustable thermostat with LED display on the cord. Would the 50watt be too much for a 3 gallon betta tank? The 10 watt glass tube model is rated up to 5 gallons. I don’t see lower wattage for the plastic ones.

I love your crying betta photo! I have trouble with 'old' (older than 2 year-heaven forbid something actually last anymore ~goes down hour long rant~) what was I saying? oh yes older heaters fail and 'cooked' my fish at 93F+ so I now use temp controllers on all the tanks so heaters can't get stuck on and has an alarm is it breaks and gets too hot/cold.

I love the hygger water heaters! Also hygger makes super quiet air pumps too! I’ve got a few running in my bedroom and they are silent!

@Simply Betta, hi! I was hoping you could help me figure out how many female bettas in a 40 gallon breeder? I’m thinking maybe 8-12 rummy nose tetras as dither fish, and maybe a school of 5-6 corys and a bristle nose pleco as a clean up crew? I don’t know if having a pleco in there will make it over stocked, what do you think? How many bettas can I have with that? It’s gunna be densely planted with really good filtration, thanks!

The pleco might make it over stocked, they're not a very good clean-up crew! but heck you could have a bunch of females in there if they all got along well. I would do like 8, though I'm not sure if that would be too much with the tetras and corys in there too

I was born up in the Australian Alps... you read that right... the Australian Alps... we do have mountains with snow here. But, currently I live in Western Australia on the southwest tourist coast. I've lived in and visited cold countries before now. I've been in -25c temps a few times (I prefer the +35c temps TBF). Today though, the temp here is low 20's celsius and my plans for the afternoon... is to make an apisto breeding tank for a single male and 2 females. I have rocks, sand, and a bunch wood (not sticks... proper wood) that I am going to use to create a semi-divided tank with caves at either end and I need to get a bunch of plants... and I need to clean the tank of all the calcium deposits from the water... so... vinegar and water and a razorblade... or two. Or it might happen tomorrow... who knows when you're dealing with someone with anxiety and depression who has issues concentrating these days :(
