OMG! SO glad to find your channel! When you carry the giant wood piece home, climb under your house to install jacks under the LOTR tank, and when you talk about not being able to get anything done when your kids are awake I 1000% relate! Absolutely appreciate.

Just like you I have failed to culture infusoria numerous times despite so many youtubers saying how easy it is. I think the biggest hurdle is just adding aquarium water - as you say, you've really no idea what or how many organisms might be in it. What changed for me was squeezing a filter sponge into jar. I have produced infusoria numerous times using this method and never failed. I have even managed to isolate a paramecium culture from my infusoria culture, just take a very tiny drop from the paramecium, the stuff that appears to be flowing down the jar and use that to start a new culture. Keeping multiple cultures is useful too in case of a crash.

Hi. Not long ago, I raised around 30-40 rasboras. They are tiny when they freshly hatch. I made an infusori culture with the yeast method and I used filter juice too. It was succesful. When the time came to feed my fries, I checked the culture by feeding it to my endler guppies. I saw that the guppies are hunting the infusoria. That Spawn wasn't big and I could keep I think all, or almost all the fries. I always fed my cultures with a small amount of yeast.

Came With the same conclusion as you have. Now I am using only a clean paramecium culture that I bought And some vinegar eels. I give pu on the Infusoria. Too much risk not to have anything when you need the most.❤

I think I have paramecia. I put a chunk of dried banana peel in tap water then I wait 2 days then I insert a few drops of my previous culture. I like to feed every day with yeast that way the bloom is really realy big.
@josephkrug85795 күн бұрын
I think it all depends on what organisms are in your tank water to begin with....ie you cant get something to grow and take over....if it wasnt in there to begin with. Have you tried to start from a cup of outdoor 'pond' water? I realize that could have all sorts of other stuff you may not want, but maybe it would help? ie the best sourdough bread is supposedly from the san francisco bay area...due to stuff in the air, etc. So who knows.

I have never had a successful infusoria culture either, I thought it might be due to chemicals used for pest control on fruits and veggies now a days.
@ReneesZooTube5 күн бұрын
Do you condition your tap water with something like Prime? I assume stuff won't grow in unconditioned tap water because they're treated specifically so organisms DON'T grow. But the cultures grew this time, so who knows... 🤣 Have you tried Cyclops at all? They're smaller than baby brine shrimp. I've got some freeze dried, not sure if they can come in live cultures.
@quitlife92794 күн бұрын
Cyclop copepods? They are common in waters and will live in other live cultures like with daphnia but seems impossible to culture in any density as they may be cannibalistic and very difficult to catch.
@notatopyoutuber5 күн бұрын
you can try get paramecium from dried forest leaves or dry grass no success guarantied. I've kind of got lucky once like that. BTW I was feeding infusoria and paramecium with stinky water created by putting in cup 3-4 oat flakes with water for 2 days. and pouring it to cultures, Once I've didn't feed them for week and I've lost paramecium..

Wonder if the banana has been sprayed/fumigated with too many toxic chemicals to grow anything, it's not unusual for exported bananas.
@genevaleon82814 күн бұрын
For infusoria , 2 weeks is too long! I culture them 2 or 3 days before i need to use it. They almost guarantee crash by day 5-6. They need a big water charnge+ new food. Its also affected by the food. Banana peel has a lot more sugars and spoils faster. Green foods last a little longer
@SemiFeralJill5 күн бұрын
Try boiled hay.

About accidentally growing bad bacteria or pathogens to your baby fish? I think more pasteurization of the vessels and process.
@SimplyBetta5 күн бұрын
That’s probably why we use things like lettuce or kibble or banana leaves versus raw chicken or something Lol! But that could be considered a “pro” for the isolated paramecium culture, as yeast is pretty harmless
@kthq5 күн бұрын
You can just use water and add grass clippings and in 3 days you will have all you need. I use a microscope to view the results
