The BeeGees ( big girls) stopped pinching them, they are just chasing each other around now. Oh btw, they are still sleeping separately so I know they aren’t getting beat up 😂 Wild and Polish!😂😂😂😂

I have two chickens who have lost feathers around their neck and head. A little bit younger one started losing head feathers about three weeks ago. I hope it doesn't get any worse.The older two started this feather loss a few months ago. There is no rooster. I haven't observed a chicken picking another's feathers. They live in a fairly safe stress free yard. However, they could have mites or lice. Perhaps if it's lice or mites, it might have started several months ago when I got these newest three hens. I kept them in their run until I felt they had established that this coop was their home and they need to come back here everyday and also lay their eggs in the nesting boxes. Since I didn't have them as chicks, they're not so keen on me inspecting their feathers on my lap. Therefore, I think I'm going to buy that stuff you mentioned and when they're on the roost, I'm just going to spray them and then do a super clean up job on their coop and run. Am I missing anything?

@CarolinaGirlCreationZ4 жыл бұрын
Wow at the Rescue Remedy! I take that myself! Had no idea you could use that for chickens. Also, where did you find your wooden ladder? I'd love one for my run area but the ones I've found on FB marketplace are insane expensive. My 8 RIR girls (and their boyfriend, Colonel Sanders *giggle*), are all molting right now and I am still getting 6-8 eggs a day. I had heard that reds are outstanding egg layers, and holy moly...they absolutely are! I get 6-8 eggs a day! I have dang 14 cartons of eggs right now! LOL! I need to start freezing them and water glass storing them for the winter! :) Edit: Oh, also! I want to start feeding fermented feed a few times a week (not sure my schedule will allow me to do it all week long). Is this the right thing? Also, if I have a rooster, will this be bad for them since it's for "layers"? I've heard too much calcium can be bad for a rooster's liver. www.scratchandpeck.com/product-category/poultry-feed/
@WelcometoChickenlandia4 жыл бұрын
Henlo! Yes, that is the feed I use. You can ferment any feed, though, even pellets or crumble! I wouldn’t ferment medicated feed. It’s fine to give it to your rooster, just offer any calcium supplement like oyster shell or eggshell in a separate dish. I got the ladder for free! It’s actually not in great condition lol.
@CarolinaGirlCreationZ4 жыл бұрын
@@WelcometoChickenlandia Ahhh, I gotcha! Thank you so much for your feedback. I don't use medicated feed so I'm good there. I did try to ferment all flock pellet feed and while the girls and Colonel ate it up, it's so weird because draining it isn't as easy as using a scratch grain. I also worry about scratch grain in the summer because I live in eastern NC so it's horrid hot and humid and I understand corn can make their body temperature go up. I definitely don't want to do anything to overheat them. I'd so totally move to the northwest in Washington state or Oregon if I could convince my husband. LOL!!! Fat people don't do well in the heat like we have in this area. HAHAHAHA!!!! Thanks again so much for your feedback! I sooooo very much appreciate it!

I got 6 chickens on May 1, so they are just over 28 weeks old. I’ve only had 2/6 lay eggs. One of the ones who was laying (a cuckoo maran) got broody about a month ago and I had to put her by herself for 3 days to break it. Now she’s not broody, but she never started laying again. Now she’s losing a lot of feathers around her neck and sort of just all over. I have heard she is too young to be molting, is that true? I don’t see any mites or lice. I’m so worried about her, she seems to be losing weight too. Also, I don’t know why more of my chickens aren’t laying yet?! There aren’t eggs around the yard. They are on an organic layer diet with proper nutrients. Any advice would be great 😔
