A customer of ours had the back wheels lock up on his 23 duramax he didn't have a trailer and he was going down hill with his family they almost went off the road its a serious problem

2024 1500 Silverado with the 3.0 Duramax, 7,500 miles never towed anything, control valve body went out. Lucky I was just a few minutes from the dealership. Dealer gave me a loaner truck and about a week later my truck was ready. Had no issues sense then but it's always in the back of my mind now.

You are right GM has screwed up and I am a Gm guy from day one. I have the 2020 2500hd with the duramax and I like you love my truck, so far I haven't had an issue yet but I now feel I have a ticking time bomb and they need to replace the trannie with a total revamp to eliminate any issues that should not happen. I previously owned the 2500 in a2006 and never had any real problems other than replacing several glow plugs. A great truck, but I like my 2020 more, but to spend my hard earned money for a time bomb is not acceptable. Gm needs to fix this and get rid of these defective valves and eat the cost. Keep up the videos and hope that your putting the word out further will get the the results we need.

I have a 2021 3500 dully that looks exactly like yours, white. I just recently found out about the lock up problems. As far as I know, to date 11/29/2024, the recall fix is a software update that doesn’t fix the hardware issue but the fix is that as wear become progressive you will get a warning on your display of a potential problem and the engine/transmission combination will place the vehicle in limp mode. This is the same condition when the emissions needs to be regenerated that reduces vehicle speed to about 30 mph. I use my dully to pull a 40ft 5th wheel. I guess GM needs to experience a class action law suite before they get around to fixing this issue or if someone is killed due to their negligence in providing a guaranteed hardware fix.

I believe the recall is to change programming so that the truck goes into limp mode before the wheels lock up. That is what I believe your truck did. The trucks not on the recall list already have the new program. The main issue is the valves. There needs to be a solution and a recall to fix them. The only reason GM is addressing this now is because it is a safety issue. Once they reprogram, it is no longer a safety issue. It is a reliability issue. I hope GM does the right thing and recalls and replaces the valve bodies. Place your bets😅. I just bought a 2024 High Country.

Yep. This recall is not a fix at all. It's only a software change that monitors the trans valve for the wear defect and then puts the vehicle into limp mode. You then have to limp to a dealer and wait for a temporary repair using the same known problem valve! Ridiculous. A new trans valve design and installed to replace the defective valve in the diesel 10 speeds is what is needed. Software change to place vehicle into limp mode is not a solution.

Appreciate your video, I bought a new 4500HD in August of 23’, I know it’s not the 10 speed but it didn’t even make it 50 miles to home, stop to get a pop and put it in drive and heard a loud clunk and trans went into limp, dealer towed it the next morning and had it for a month, they put two valve bodies and an internal harness in it, said plungers kept getting hung up in the bores, so now what I am left with is awful flare between shifts when it’s cold and a constant growling noise coming from trans, it definitely did damage to hard parts when it screwed up, they then changed the differential carrier assembly to try to correct the noise, and you can feel it in the floor of the cab when it is doing it, gm field engineer drove it and said it was normal 🤦‍♂️, and they wasn’t going to replace trans, wtf! That’s funny because when they had it a third time, I drove another MD and it was quiet as can be.

I know it’s not a truck, but I have a 2016 Camaro SS with 23400 miles and I’m having transmission issues and because it’s out of warranty they won’t do anything, and when I asked the service department manager about what it was doing she told me I was the first she had ever heard was having issues. They are told to LIE to the customers to keep from fixing anything and trying to avoid conflict with the customers face to face.

20-22 doesn't have the software, 23-up has the software in place. Gm has been aware of the issue and keep on production with the faulty part. This recall covering 20-22 trucks is just to reduce the safety aspect, it doesn't fix anything and you are still at risk for the failure.

You're absolutely right this is a problem from GM motors that need to be fixed the right way go back to the old Allison six-speed transmission so that we can rely on GM's products. When GM has something that is a proven product why not stick with it the prices went up since the Allison transmission went away the Allison transmission never gave any problems but you are absolutely right and what you are doing keep it up

I have a 2016 Tahoe LTZ for my business truck, been needing to trade for a few years for tax reasons but between the GM valve train issues (they refused to acknowledge and fix) and the price gouging, I decided to wait on trading. I was waiting for the 2025 Denali's to hit the lots and trade for one of those, Escalade or try a 2500 duramax, but I am getting leery of getting another GM.

The recall is only to install software that will monitor the wear on the valve body. Apparently the fluid pressure will drop and the ECM will sense it and display a message telling you the transmission is limited to 5th gear. 2023 and up are supposed to already have the software. They aren't fixng the problem, just issuing the recall to install the software to get around the NTSB safety issue and hoping it doesn't break until you are out of warranty and you get to cover the cost. I used to be a GM fan boy. I'm now in an F250 for a daily driver/backup work truck to my 2005 F350 RV transporter

I’ve been screwed before with GM. I had a 2014 GMC Sierra that had transmission problems! I’m opted not to go with a GMC Sierra this time. I picked up a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax. I have 71,000 miles and I have not had any issues. Changed the tranny fluid at 58,000 miles. She’s a solid truck and I’m thankful I don’t have any problems.

A possible issue with the transmission on the (2020-2024) HD trucks is the dealer putting the wrong fluid in when changing. I do my own repairs, but when I went to the dealership to pick up the ULV ACDelco transmission fluid they gave me the wrong kind. I wouldn’t have noticed but they gave me mobile one and when I looked, i noticed it wasn’t ULV. I questioned them about it and they insisted they were giving me the correct fluid. The manager came in and also insisted they were correct. So, we decided to check using my VIN and found out they were wrong. They were shocked and apologized. My first thought was your transmission blowing up minutes after a fluid change because they could have put the wrong fluid in. Just my two cents and food for thought. 🤷🏻‍♂️ (I have 2020 2500HD Duramax with 75k)

I do my own fluid/filter changes, so I know it's done right. I've done 3 drop pan, replace filter/fluid. I'm at 90,000 miles and it's still acting up. I will not take it to get a reflash.

I checked RA to compare transmission part numbers, found the Rebuild Kit part# LUK GATK6L90 is for the 2007-2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500/3500 and GMC and of course OUT OF STOCK.... So then I compared the 2024 Automatic Transmission Control Unit (TCU) that uses "GM GENUINE 24056863 Trans. code 10L1000/MGM or Trans.Code 10L1000/MGU; 10 Speed Trans." while the 2020-2023 Automatic Transmission Control Unit (TCU) uses GM GENUINE 24049790 10 speed transmission; 10 speed; GLOBAL A ARCHITECTURE.... Last item I found is for 2020-2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500/3500 and GMC ---- GM GENUINE 24043596 Overhaul 10 speed transmission; 10 speed; CONTAINS ONLY FIELD SERVICEABLE GASKETS AND SEALS. DOES NOT CONTAIN FIBER/STEEL CLU PLATES, CLU PISTONS/DAMS, W/BONDED SEALS.... Still looking for the different part numbers to see if the recall is not addressing the ENTIRE ISSUE ????

Agreed, I have a 23' and I'm highly disappointed by this. Depending how GM handles this will determine if I ever purchase another GM hd again. They need to revise the part and then start a campaign to replace them all, not just as they fail within warranty. People with hd trucks are traveling and pulling loads we don't want a failure on the side of the road, make this right GM.

Fab Rats utube channel did a video on ther channel,the vid is called "This is a huge problem with general motors" and he not only tells us where to go to get the kit to fix it but he shows just what all is involved to install the kit.. now if your not mechanically inclined i suggest you use your local transmission shop to perform the repair, even though i knew i could perform the repair i still had my local shop do it which gave me a discount on tge install because now they know what it takes to repair it so they dont have to turn away anyone who has the same problem and can't wait for gm to get off ther azzes like me and since the trans doesnt need to be dropped will save them & ther customer's time & money to do the repair.. anyways i left a comment before and somehow it dissappeared so made 2 more comments hoping one will make it thru.. love the channel and am a new subscriber look forward to more of your content

I purchased a 24 Denali dually. Had it shipped to Cali then with 160 miles I left with my 13k toy hauler to Alabama and back. Now a year and 3 months I did a little longer trip same trailer. I just hit 17k miles and it mostly pulls that trailer. When do the symptoms start? What I don’t like around 25 mph if i slowly accelerate it jerks back and forth till as 30 mph. Just wondering if that’s normal or a symptom of a future problem

This isn't as bad as your issue but goes to a pattern. Years ago my wife bought a Gran Am. Took it back to the dealer with small flakes of paint coming off. They claimed it was stone chips and sent us away. Short time later big flakes of paint would be in the driveway when you come out in the morning. Took it back and they tried to tell us it was stone chips again until I pointed out the problem in the trunk gutter. They brought out so.e tape and it pulled the paint off. They repainted it but it happe ed again. Turns out it was a problem with the base coat not adhering to the top coat. They knew it and we found out it was a silent recall from someone that worked for the paint company.

@@TheRiverstoneLifeMy 2017 has been in for numerous Emissions issues and they refuse to cover it under the Emissions warranty. DPF replaced at 39k miles and now it’s bad again. Technician even said service Dept probably burnt up the DPF doing manual regens and they still won’t cover. DPF has lifetime warranty on AC Delco website but because I didn’t pay for it personally and it was replaced under warranty the lifetime warranty doesn’t apply! Should it matter who paid for the DPF? It’s been sitting at the dealer for a month now!

I have a 23 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4. Bought it used with 41,000 miles on it. As anyone that buys a used vehicle you have it serviced, trans, differential, oil change. On our first trip after the service with our small trailer, 3900 pound, Tab 400, we had two hard shifts. Like someone hit me in the rear. Went in to limp mode. Had the truck towed home. The next morning drove ok no issues, but did have codes that indicated a valve body failure. I was able to drive it to the GMC dealership in Carson City. The service writer confirmed the valve body failure. As other have posted, there was at least a four month waiting list for a new valve body. Since I just bought the truck from CarMax, they were willing to buy it back from me due to the delay in getting the truck fixed. Stupid me I kept the truck, because the dealership had a new transmission, or refurbished transmission in stock. GM approved the transmission replacement, which is an Allision transmission built by GM under license from Allison. All seemed good but after a few hundred miles I started getting a slow speed hard down shift. Sometimes coming to a stop, other times coasting down hill under 45 mph. I complained to the service department. They rechecked the fluid levels and reprogrammed the TCM. Now all is good, with the excepting of an occasional down shifting, not as hard but very noticeable, shifting during a slow down hill run. I towed the trailer and I had no issues after that episode. So the shifting issue for me is very random. I thought it might have something to do with the exhaust break. But had the shifting issue both on and off. So, going to drive it until power train warranty is almost out, 11/2027, then going to get a Ford F150. I am done with GM.

2023 2500 Duramax here. My truck had a new valve body put in at 36k miles. Truck would start shifting up then bang downshifts and go into limp mode. Did this three times before they swapped the valve body. I was always in tow mode when this happened. Today, transmission is still harsh sometimes shifting out of park and has hanging shifts. I don’t use tow mode anymore but have not gone into limp mode or had anymore issues. Dealer says this is normal. Also has a 21 3.0 Duramax 1500 that had similar issues on the interstate. Dealership could never figure it out. The last straw was when the truck was rolling out of a parking spot with no brakes, no transmission or power steering. I ebraked the truck and left it until I found the 2500.

I have a 21 AT4 w 3.0 Duramax. 73k the truck has been in the shop off and on for months with emissions issues they can’t solve. They give it back and it then goes into limp mode again. 🤯 Besides that the last 2 oil samples from Blackstone labs are showing alarming amounts of wear metals. I just bought a Ram 2500 w 6.4 Hemi and ZF 8 speed tranny , I looked at the Chevy but the transmission issues worried me too much, use for business so couldn’t see waiting for transmission issues to be repaired..

The NHTSA can only issue recalls after an investigation that last a certain amount of time after the initial complaint was filed. There is more legalities than just that, but that's basically right. So if the recall included the 23 -24's from the start the investigation period would need to be going on. By not including them they can get the recall out there faster, to force GM to start dealing with the issue. I'm sure that like so often there will be an update to the recall to include the newer trucks. Now if the out if warranty trucks are covered or not, it will depend on the safety threat when the valve fails. In this case it does and they will probably use the rule that as long as if the vehicle is still within its normal life cycle. Unfortunately, that is determined by the NHTSA and you will need to keep watching for updates on the recall

What you should realize is that that engine that is so reliable is a Isuzu/gm venture which makes it Japanese, which is why it is so reliable! Don’t get me wrong. I love mine also but it is a 2015 with the Allison six speed.

I’ve noticed just about a month ago I started noticing that my truck has been down shifting really hard and in North Dakota winters an the roads that was really uncomfortable with the down shifting and the back end starting to fishtail isn’t fun at all

I had a 2020 f150 that I babied until the trans ended up going out with just over 20k miles… spent months in the dealer with software flashes, followed by valve body replacement, followed by eventually needing a full replacement. I have a Sierra now, unfortunate hearing now that these are having similar issues, I was hoping GM had figured out the issues ford was having with the 10 speed, even though most say it’s the same trans.

They will almost surely have to expand the recall to include the 2023-2024 models after they get "caught up" in taking care of the earlier model years. They certainly should be getting these later model years fixed before they even ship them to the dealers!

They should handle your recall since you have a recorded history with the issue. I have a Ford and I am not the original owner. There was a recall on the transmission and I had 198k miles on it at the time of recall. ford did the recall no questions asked. But I worry if there will be an issue down the road. So far so good though.

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 and had the exact same issue. And I had no recall. I Had to replace the transmission in 2017. It’s now 2024 and I need a new transmission again. So this has been an ongoing problem since 2014 and Gm new about it. I’ll never buy a Gm again. I had an 04’ 2500 that was a beast my 2014 no so much.

Yep!! Canceled 2024 GMC diesel elevation 1500 because of this issue and other things like the diesel oil belt in the back that needs to be replaced after 200,000 miles or before!

I love the look and ride quality of Chevy/GM trucks. I would not buy a modern one, even though I can afford it. I just put Collector plates on my 24 year old Tahoe with the 5.3 Vortec. 64k original miles, low tech, runs and drives like new, no worries about the trans or wheels locking up! As a daily driver I bought a Frontier Pro4X. No issues with the transmission, no wheels locking up at 75mph! General Motors needs to fix this man’s issues-AND EVERY OTHER ONE OF THEIR TRUCKS. It’s criminal.

My 2024 2500 ultimate has been in the shop for two weeks for the valve body issue. 25k miles and have towed 8k of that. It’s had four recalls, multiple gremlins in the electronics, idler arm went out and replaced under warranty…WTF. No word from GM on when, no loaner, $44/day in REIMBURSEMENT when it gets fixed for a rental car. Ridiculous. Spent north of $100 for this truck and they want me to rent a Kia with my own money. Not fair, not right, should be illegal. We need to keep this chatter going to put pressure on GM. At this point, I’m never buying another GM product again!

They won’t put the 2023 and 2024s on the recall list because they’re still for sale brand new. If they do, the recall has to be fixed before they can sell it. They will be added to the recall list later

GM did the say B.S. with the slipping timing chain on the GMC Acadia’s. They did the recall up to 2012 but the 2013 were fine. Honestly 2018 Silverado 1500 shifts hard. My father in law went through 3 transmissions in his.
