The fact that new guns are stiff and stay stiff is a testament to the fine tolerances to which they’re manufactured. It’s not a flaw, it’s a sign of quality.

A lot of people do not lubricate there guns ,if you don't its going to wear fast and loosen .its a moving mechanise it needs oiling and greasing ! but it mush be cleaned before .

Every gun I buy. Pistol. Shotgun etc. The first thing I do is a deep disassemble/clean. Bc ive had brand new guns with terrible packing grease and rust already (looking at you sig). Then lube effectively. I use Teflon gun grease in friction spots and oil all external metal. This is mostly my own opinion but has served me well for the 25yrs I've had some of my firearms.

My Yildiz SPZ ME12 was so stiff out of the box I strained a shoulder tendon trying to work the break action my first day shooting it. After about 150 shells through it, it's loosened up a bit, but still has a way to go yet before I can use it effortlessly. It is a joy to shoot, though, so I'll soldier on with it. It's good to know a stiff action is a sign of tight tolerances that will provide quality service in the long term.
@alexdudley86175 ай бұрын
Just bought a new DT11 and have only 850 rounds through it. When new the gun was insanely tight as was the fore end. It was near impossible to open. InitialIy I cleaned the factory grease from it and I clean it after each day's shooting. I have learned two things that are helpful. When opening and closing the gun hold it with the side parallel to the ground and pull the barrels toward your waist. When closing hold it in the same way and push the barrels away from your waist. This allows you tp apply more strength to the movements. To close hold the top lever open and gently close the gun, releasing the top lever when it is closed...DO NOT SLAM THE GUN CLOSED! I use a light greas on the bearing and mating surfaces
@williamcollins23272 жыл бұрын
The factory lube is designed to insulate the gun from corrosion more than lubricating the bearing surfaces. As the gun is cycled, the lube is replaced by the lubricants added by the user over time. The process can be expedited by using a cleaning lubricant initially and switching to a lithium based lubricant after the gun gets to the point of effortless use.

I bought a cheap over and under less than 750 so it wasn’t anything spectacular. You could barely brake it open over your knee. I put maybe 100-200 shells through it a year. So rather than spend the next 10-20 years to get to that loosened up, it was loosened up so I can actually try to enjoy it over the next 5-10 years haha

You don't service a car every year if it's had little use. The same is true for a gun. Better advice would be to service it every X,000 cartridges or Y years (whichever happens sooner). What X and Y are probably depends on the gun.

What? If you don’t service a newer car xxxx miles or at least every year you will lose your warranty! At least in Sweden.

My Lanber was difficult to open from new. I finally used grease on all bearing services and this was an improvement. This grease is cleaned and renewed after each use. I also use a thin oil elsewhere. Opening is also helped by taking the weight of the barrels, the top lever is then easier to move. The gun has mechanical triggers that are cocked on opening so this increases the effort to completely open the gun.

Too much oil will attract dust and that will make it stiff. When I get a new gun I clean off all the oil as it's often too viscous. As another poster mentioned, factory lube is normally far too thick and has corrosion inhibitors for transport. Nothing wrong about that but a good clean and a very light bearing oil applied sparingly, like sewing machine oil, like 3 in 1, but not too much and just a bit, don't drench.

I bought a new Browning 525, from my local shooting school in January. I shoot once a week, sometimes twice. I average 150 cartridges per week. I have found recently the gun is fine BUT when the bottom barrel gets hot, the fore end develops about 2mm of play at the "muzzle end". So HOT barrels is resulting in 2-3 mm of play at the schnable end - it's almost like I can push the "beak" of the wood inward towards the barrel, and it makes a clicking noise when I do. Once the barrels cool down, the problem disappears...... Action nice and tight, but forend is junk!

With the Browing citoris it just crazy hown they hammer on the forend and havevthe customer use thier knees to break open as normal. Simply won't tolerate a $4000USD that tight for 2k rounds. The back side of the barrel lug needs a few light swipes of a fine file or stone. The lockup has nothing to do with the stiffness. It's the forend iron radius to tight against the receiver radius that makes it so stiff.

We just bought a CZ Supreme Field 12 ga....takes two people to assemble, by the gun store staff. It is very stiff. I'd be interested if you have any experience with the CZ models and if you have any tips for assembly. Thanks much.

The assembly is easy on the CZ shotguns once you get the hang of it

Sometimes good info is given here but this channel’s primary objective seems to be to showcase the host’s shooting skills.

How does “servicing” do a dang thing to keep it from wearing loose? Keeping the wear points clean and lubricated slows the wear!
