A lot of us, black men in particular do not realize what we have to do to make our own hair look nice because it is considered feminine to care about your appearance if you spend too much money on your hair or skincare. We have to care for ourselves inside and out. Glad the brotha took the time to care for himself and the barber is looking out for his client.

Exactly! Something as simple as shaving our armpits or using wipes are considered feminine. F what they think! When I look good, I feel great, I walk into every room like I'm about to take everybody's wives. Lol! In all seriousness, people will treat you based on your appearance and how you carry yourself.

@@International-BlackMan The women love the results of the self-care. They just do not care for the process. I get compliments on the feel of my skin, hands, feet, hair, and beard. They ask what it is that I do and I explain my routine and regimen. I discuss the products that I use and why. They then look at me and say things akin to "You are doing too much," or "I can't have a man with a better routine than mine," or "Any man that spends more time on himself than I do, I cannot deal with." One woman thought I had chick because my hair dryer was still out from when I deep conditioned my hair. I work a blue-collar job and workout. My body is constantly in the elements and needs to be taken care of. Self-care is essential for all, not just women.

I hate that some of yall feel this way. I’m a barber and I’ve been cutting for 7+ years (all races) and I can tell you I absolutely love when a man keeps himself groomed. I like when men smell good and keep themselves up. I don’t know why it has such a negative connotation. I work in an only men’s spa/barbershop and its very common for men to get pedis/manis etc. Dont let the negative talk stop you. And a tip for waves to POP: 1. wash your hair thoroughly (for healthy scalp and products afterwards will work better) 2. Make sure your hair is DRENCHED and use a shampoo brush to form waves 3. Rinse thoroughly and pat your head dry, dont rub 4. I like to use a thick pomade or paste (a little goes a long way) take like a fingernail size amount, rub it in your palms really good and evenly distribute, brush with a boar bristle(rough side THEN soft side), add a dab of your fav oil and evenly distribute(oil not necessary if you use a shiny pomade), durag and let it set for a while✨ If your hair is on the longer side, I would stick with the foam.

Sulfur 8 grease, they even have a light one, helps with scalp issues. If he's getting welts like that he likely has a sensitive scalp that's a form of psoriasis. Products that leave build up or leave the scalp too moist (even doing things like putting a rag on wet (even wet from sweat or washing) hair and not drying it immediately) inflame the scalp and cause the welts.

I had the similar thing when I used to wave. I know we are usually told not to, but he needs to wash and style everyday/two days with a light cowash (also making sure to dry the hair immediately with a blowdryer etc). Additionally, he need to change his durag everyday, to reduce the chance of bacteria having the environment to grow. Some of us have more sensitive scalps, and need more maintenance. Good luck to the brother🌊

This is a good service for someone new to waves or trying to get back to it after a long time. If you choose to offer it just make sure it's not taking up too much of your schedule. Jojoba oil will take care of those flakes, and also not waiting weeks in between washes. Jojoba oil though is the goat at removing the flakes, even from seborrhea, it cured mines altogether. I had tried meds and shampoos from dermatologist for years but, after about two treatments with organic jojoba oil I never had that problem again. I’ve been missing you man and would like to see more content from you. You’re a good barber and this was another nice transformation. ❤

Tangled can be managed by: combing/picking often with moisturizers (oils such as StaSoftFro, Cantu Creme (coconut oil creme best imo), or anything that hydrates 4C hair exceptionally well. The longer you go w/o maintaining, the harder it takes to untangle before it has to be trimmed or worse, cut too short. If y'all want to rock afros, you HAVE to maintain it daily. I know this guy would be able to rock a great afro only if he maintained it well. That cut was top notch until I saw flakes coming 🤦🏾‍♂️ He did not moisturize regularly. Waves takes TONS of work cuz he'll have to brush daily and keep his hair greased up well.

I love the feedback in this comment. Thanks for sharing and as far as his wave journey I agree it takes way more work to maintain them but I feel he doing better with that look than when he had long hair.

Always great videos. A piece of wisdom to pass on to clients is that a damp scalp for long periods of time will cause dandruff. Hats, caps, and dreads will hold moisture on the scalp.

Really good video but can you keep the captions up longer? It was hard reading it all without hitting pause. You have great barbering skills and went beyond what barbers normally are willing to do.

my tip for the dry spots is head and shoulder the almond one, wash once a week it will tone down the flakes as you flake when your scale is dry just needs a bit of moisture is all

Great job, you really killed it with the cut. Also props to the client for keeping up with the daily process. If you were to introduce that service, it would have to be a premium/ special that would have to be priced on the higher side. It seems to take a lot of time and effort but the results are great. You just dont want that to encroach your normal revenue generating methods and take away from them.

Fonzz I definitely think you should add Wash and Styles as a service. That's a great idea. Especially for those who are beginners at waving. It can give them a foundation to build upon.

Great job…as a waver incorporate combing the hair before brushing before doing the durag and final rinse. It helps with forks connecting and fills those gaps up.

@yofonzz...it was GREAT seeing you the other day at the shop. Not sure you can tell but I was pretty nervous speaking to you (being out of breath and stumbling over my words a little bit). You can tell I'm a fan when that happens as that hasn't happened to me before in a very long time. I tried to play it off but that was difficult. I had to mustard up the courage to open the door and say your name. I said to myself, he's expecting you (kind of). If you don't approach him, you might regret it later. You made me feel a lot better at ease when we embraced and chat a little bit. You made it as if we've been friends for a long time (even though I've been a subscriber for a long time). That blew me away and that goes a long way with me. We will definitely link up soon. It was a awesome experience and that's all I've been thinking about. You're probably was my Good luck charm bc I made a crazy amount of money that day in a short amount of time. Again, it was great seeing you!
