As others have said great commentary of the technique used. I’ve seen the wetting the back before but forgot all about it, good to get reminder. Think this was a great example of a skilled artist and good quality paper working together. Thanks

This is so beautiful! It is amazing how a stroke here, and a brush there, creates and unfolds a vision that you can hear nature, as well! Love this! I will definitely try this.💚

I have seen this done before but couldn’t get an answer about what happens if you have to leave the painting and it dries out by the time you get back to it? Is there a way to re-wet both sides again? Or does a painting like this have to be done in one sitting?
@KarenRiceArt2 жыл бұрын
@@murraycallahan3716 Hi Murray, great question. Firstly, I would try to set aside time so you could do it in one siting. If this is not possible, you could definitely wet the back of the painting, stick it down onto a non absorbe😀nt surface and then carefully wet your painting with a large soft haired brush so you do not disturb the dried painting underneath. Hope this was helpful
@murraycallahan37162 жыл бұрын
Thank you for answering my question about rewetting the paper. I guess for the front you could use a spray bottle, too?
@KarenRiceArt2 жыл бұрын
You could do that 😀

Hi Karen, I'm really pleased with it too. It was amazing watching you make this painting come to life. I do have glass panes and look forward to trying this technique. 💙

Amazing sky! Something I’ve learnt today on how to stop paper from buckling is to wet it on both sides. Thank you for the tip. Also the brush you used is so soft, is it sable?
@KarenRiceArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The brush is a synthetic and natural hair mix.

Hi Karen, Beautiful work as always!! Do you have any great horned owl tutorials? I want to paint one for my sons girlfriend, but cannot find alot of tutorials in watercolor. I am going for it on my own, but would like to do a tutorial first.

Hi Cindy, I do have an owl tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqW0Ya2VbLeqptk I hope it inspires you to paint this or something similar for your son's girlfriend.

Always good tips from you, Karen. Is there truly a "good" side of paper, though? If l mess up, l flip the dried paper over and start anew, not really noticing that one side looks better than the other.
@carolevans2894 Жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, in your Do's and Don'ts tutorial you taught us to allow the first wash to completely dry. In this session you paint all the colors at once. I've tried this project three times, and my colors do not come out well. Especially the yellow sun which I am trying to master. Advice? Thank you.
@KarenRiceArt Жыл бұрын
You are right I do. You need to wet the back of the painting when you are painting wet in wet. Try to keep colours away from the yellow sun (lift off with paper towel). Work with thicker paint damp ti to damp when you get darker. Don’t add wet paint to damp paint. Less is more. Hope this helps 😊
@sarahjanewheatley54722 жыл бұрын
That’s very helpful Karen. Do you leave the painting on the glass to dry completely? Would that in effect keep the paper stretched?
@KarenRiceArt2 жыл бұрын
You can do Sarah... it does seem to keep it nice and flat. I find Saunders Waterford paper really works well with this method 😀
@jennifer_y_fischer2 жыл бұрын
I do this, but with a wooden board. Does the glass itself (or similar material) increase the amount of time? Logically it makes sense because the glass would not absorb the water like the wood might. But I was wondering what your thoughts are. Thank you so much for posting this! I really appreciate your tips. I watch your abstracts in the background while I'm painting. I find they help me focus on what I'm doing for some reason. I think I find your painting style calming. Which is great for my adhd, lol. 🥰
@KarenRiceArt2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jennifer... any surface that is non absorbent works well. I love that you watch my abstracts while painting 😀
