@@IONAPINKMOXIE I've read your question and I have an answer... The Cybermen are using Joshua's mind as a way to transmit a signal to theirs forces who are gathering near Ganymede (one of Jupiter's large moons) for yet another attempt invade earth by way of diabolical mind control. The Cybermen's tomfoolery will not work because I discovered their dance portal, hidden behind the science library just west of Dorestshire right next to Baron Yorkingdale's avant-garde carriage house. By reversing the polarity of the neutron flow I've managed to confuse the Cyber Leader Organized Defense (known as CLOD) which will confuse them into grande uncertainty, in which they will be unsure of which planet to invade with a general nod toward Neptune therein, as it were. Once the Cyber Controller starts ordering pizzas with extra mushrooms and onions, the entire squadron will collapse like a bunch of canned broccoli! I think to really the boil down all of this is I don't understand how anyone could understand the being they describe as a God. The omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, being that exists outside of a realm that we can't investigate and somehow also interacts with us. If that being were to reveal itself any of us, the correct assessment would be, this thing is lying, I'm experiencing psychosis, or it could be an alien with sufficient technology. The idea that people can tell me that they know what this thing is are definitely lying to themselves, there's no way you could possibly know that, that's why they default to "faith".

Random atheist commenter here: I have a question(s) that might be up your alley since you mentioned "outside spacetime" in your call. I hear a lot of talk from both theists and atheists about god being (or not being) outside of space & time/spacetime. My questions are thus: where in the Bible does it specifically state that God had to be outside of time & space to create the universe? Is this idea just implied/assumed by the Bible authors? By universe I mean whatever concept of "universe" was understood by the authors. Did the authors even have any idea of what "spacetime" was? Did the authors - especially of the Old Testament - even make a distinction between physical "reality" and the supernatural in the manner that most rational people do today? Was their worldview much more restrictive than it is today? So many theists today posit that the creator of the universe MUST BE * "outside of time & space" AKA not subject to the physical limitations of our universe as we know them. But is this a modern take on it? * It amuses me & confuses me how so many preachers, apologists and Christians in general seem to know all of God's specific capabilities/operating parameters, reasoning, motivations, agenda, etcetera! 🤣"God has no choice but to send sinners to eternal torture!" Really now? Where in the Bible does it say that God's hands are tied on this issue? God seems to change his mind about things and even express regret for bad decisions. So we all have "free will" EXCEPT GOD who must think, function, and behave according to what his followers dictate? When did God die and make the Christians boss? 🤣

Matt is probably best known for explaining logic in a way that easily digestible to anyone, so for Anthony to call in and say Matt is a hero of his and then proceed to commit half a dozen named logical fallacies was kind of hilarious. But also kind of sad, hearing a grown man say things like "well do you have another explanation" or "I don't understand what it could be so it must be this" ...this is basic logic 101, kindergarten level logic, I mean, he literally said "I look at the trees" critical thinking should be taught in schools, identifying logical fallacies should be taught in schools.

I would suggest to Anthony - and to all the believers in the supernatural - to simply make a physical list every time he experiences something "unexplained" or unusual. Write down any & all possible explanations you or others who may have also witnessed it can think of. If you want to list "God did it!" or some other supernatural reason, go ahead. But then start exploring & examining all the different possible explanations. You may end up with "God did it" after eliminating all the other choices, but I would venture to say that you won't if you are doing an honest & thorough investigation. Just my 2 cents!

At around 1:25:14 Matt asks Anthony how he knew that the weird light he saw was supernatural. A fair question, but my question to Anthony would be "how do you know that the supernatural light you saw was from God and not from a demon or other supernatural entity - or even a DIFFERENT god than the one you believe in?" Sidenote - Anthony said (paraphrasing) look at the trees. 😮‍💨 WHY are "trees" the default choice of evidence for a god when observing the outdoor world around us? If anything, trees prove evolution via there being so many very closely genetically related but still separate species of oak trees (for example)!

Also, whenever a host asks him a question, Joshua says something like, “Ok, well, I guess you aren’t smart enough to understand my position,” and then just simply repeats himself. This is actually evidence that Joshua doesn’t understand his own arguments. If you cannot explain your argument more than one way by using your own words, but instead are only able to read from a script, you don’t actually understand the argument.

@Anthony, since you're asking "the people who listen", then my first thought would be that you were hallucinating (for whatever reason, drugs, heat stroke, alcohol, bad food, brain "short circuited") and the second that you're simply remembering wrong. This happens to humans all the time. Many, many times I was completely certain that I remembered something perfectly (from stuff that I've experienced like movies watched to events I participated in) only to find out from pictures or recordings that I was completely wrong on anything from small to significant details. In fact on many of those occasions a friend of mine who was a part of that same past experience would argue with me that my memories are wrong and that his memories are correct and then the pictures or records would show that NEITHER one of us was remembering it correctly. In fact on a funny side note, my wife who would know me (obviously) very well and that particular friends also quite well and for long would often later tell me that sometimes she would witness the two of us talk about past events and _while talking_ add details to those memories that we were fabricating on the go and at the same time _confirm_ this new fabricated version of the past event by basically building up a new version and affirming it to ourselves in a feedback loop. She would then point to me the stuff we would make up and somehow she was always right and the "memories" that me and Chris had "shared", despite being vivid and stuff we would both absolutely agree on, would turn out wrong. This is just how human memory works. It's not really a memory of the actual event(s), it's - in short - a memory of a memory of a memory.

Well said, friend. I would have asked Anthony if he was on LSD or mushrooms; and has he ever had a brain scan for tumors/cancer. And I'd pay money to have his police officer son come on and tell us about this supposedly shared sighting of a fireball in the bedroom - when logic would dictate a call to 911 IMHO

Out of curiosity when you remember an event where you had an emotional state, do you have the same emotional state as your point of view in the memory? Does remembering one time you were angry make you angry again, etc?
@rboland2173
@rboland2173 15 күн бұрын
HA! Good point about a memory being a memory of a memory and not the actual event. Sometimes when watching a movie I think "WAIT! That's not how that line goes. Am I watching some director's cut or something?" 🤨There is a great study about memory accuracy concerning September 11 WTC. People start recounting what happened to them personally and as time goes on (weeks, months, years) the accuracy of their memory nosedives accordingly. Anyway, back to the supernatural, concerning seeing "ghosts" when somebody close to you passes away. It's very common for people to interpret unexplained things as being the ghost/spirit of a very recently deceased loved one, but these experiences fade in frequency over time. I think it's because our brains are so temporarily "scrambled" because of the tremendous emotional upheaval from the tragic event. We aren't thinking rationally for obvious reasons. And often a group of people (family members perhaps) will claim that they saw/experienced the same ghostly event because ALL of their brains are in a state of overwhelming confusion. Yet a year or so later if you ask these same people about any specific details about anything - even mundane/routine things not related to the passing of their loved one - they will often say "those first few weeks were a blur! I was on mental autopilot the whole time. All the days kind of blended together." So considering these very common aspects of highly charged human emotions and degrading memory of any event under the BEST conditions let alone the WORST - can we honestly believe that the stories of Jesus - written decades after his crucifixion - are even close to being true & accurate? Sorry Christians - the human propensity for telling ourselves & others stories that change despite our best efforts to keep them straight - combined with our emotions running haywire - puts the odds for the Bible being true at "slim to none" by my reasoning. Forget all the alleged "miracles" Jesus performed - the only miracle would be human brains that - for one brief period in all of human history - had perfectly functioning memories.

Moderately, religious people can be a potential ticking bomb. When i was religious, i used to feel guilty for not being a good muslim and would go through periods of being very pious and trying to follow every rule. I think what saved me was the fact that I am a woman. I got tired of being told i was less intelligent than men. The fact that I loved reading set me on the path of finding out the truth for myself. Now i am an ex muslim who is unfortunately in the closet for obvious reasons.

The idea that concepts at odds with the concepts of my kinship culture can actually be considered is not habitual in most parts of the world. Humanism (rather than Tribalism), Logic (rather than belief) are things that only arose a few hundred years ago in Northern Europe (ie. the Renaissance)

Also, Lewis never said that some people are so stupid that they are religious/need religion, he literally said that some people are not only conditioned from a very early age to be religious, but also are denied education and therefore reasoning tools to break out of it. This is what is still happening in many countries (not just African, but European and American too) and on a much larger scale that many people realize. Where I live I have churches all over the town in 20-25 minute walking distance from each other and in the space between them on average 1 out of every 2 billboards is "praising the Lord", call to "praise the Christ, for he is risen", advice that "prayer is the tool of the humble" or some such or scream out some propaganda bullshit like "studies show that only X percentage of Christian marriages in which both spouses pray daily and pray together end in divorces!"

Along the lines of the conversation with Omega Weapon, wouldn’t a perfect being look like the description of the Deistic god? Just push the button and don’t interact? That would make any perfect being indistinguishable from a being that doesn’t exist. Thoughts?
@SudroCypherious
@SudroCypherious 18 күн бұрын
Omega Weapon here. It all depends on the definition/usage of "perfection" imo. I've debated theists who describe the Abrahamic god in that way and define perfection as maximized in every conceivable way. That logically would entail it's completely self sustaining and self content. Following that reasoning such a being would have no needs or desires. Including the need or desire to create anything in the first place, much less require "glorification" from it's creations. Lest in be *not* maximized in those areas.

It is honestly scary to me like folks like Anthony decide that “golden sparks” somehow prove the existence of the Abrahamic god. How very very little they expect as *proof* from a being that supposedly created the UNIVERSE ffs - this god does nothing else for them yet they hug the random golden sparks notion (“I saw some golden sparks in my room”) as *proof* of a massively powerful deity that otherwise does nothing for them…sigh.

Only shitty comedians blame the audience for their bad joke. He also seemed like a slimy jerk to me. I’m Anthony . I’m the one that called on the video. I said this happened for a two or three year period. They weren’t even camera cell phones back then or I would’ve tried to video it and the times I prayed. I always have my video camera now now in case, the Lord ever starts doing things like that again. But I do have something tangible. I was praying once my wife comes in the room to get something. She’s walking out she stops and she looks at me. She sees. I’m covered with gold. That was a phenomenon that was happening to people and that church. They would pray and gold would appear on them, so we get tweezers we start taking the gold flakes off my forehead and my face and then I brought them down to a place and got tested and it was actual gold all over me pure gold and the man said it was really the finest gold he’s ever seen and I still have that to this day. I have it in a napkin

He showed you pointless nothing magic tricks that did nothing to benefit your life or the lives of those around you, - certainly not the lives of anyone in need - and then he left you with an anecdote, a story with no substance, that proves nothing to anybody that cannot be legitimized in any way and proves not a damned thing. Re: Joshua How can I show that "atheism is true" for atheism being "belief that no gods exist" Step 1: Define god. I can't talk about a belief "YYY doesn't exist" without knowing exactly what is meant by YYY. From a definition of YYY, I can hypothesize expected evidence and observations that would result for the existence of YYY. It would need to be falsifiable, and not something non-discriminatory like "God is the creator of the universe. Therefore, the universe is evidence for God." And continue on from there. If there is no version of god that is hiding and ultimately can't be tested, I don't care.

This caller from the Southern Africa, where I was born raised and worked there, is not telling the whole truth. My mom became an atheist when she was 69yrs old and now she is 82. We have Humanists, Atheist Republic members in South Africa. We have a lot of uneducated people who are not religious, though a minority, but the conversations are held. Yes it is difficult but really it is not only education or exposure that keeps people believing, the majority of educated and well off South Africans are religious. All I can say is that there are more challenges when it comes to religion, but to say adults would not change their mind, my mother did without much education.

Still false and potentially offensive, like most things Jimmy Carr says, but also the thrust of the punchline isn’t that it insults trans people but the wordplay over it. Regarding Tarik Alsafi's syllogism in the superchats. Many christians will say that the babies killed by the flood were sinful and not innocent (due to the idea about original sin due to the Fall of Adam & Eve, the sins of the father being passed to the offspring etc) so that it was in fact a morally good thing for god to kill them. And if that is their position (horrible as it is), they reject your premises and your syllogism won't hold up, so then it becomes a whole other discussion.
