Ashutosh Sinha: When the film 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' was ready, no distributor bought it due to fear of incurring losses. Frustrated producer Laxman Prasad had to distribute his film himself. There were not many expectations from the film, so some of its prints were released first. Within a week the demand for the film increased so much that new prints had to be made available in large quantities immediately. Made with a limited budget of Rs 50 lakh, this film did a business of more than Rs 10 crore. Not only money, this film also earned a lot of respect.
Ashutosh Sinha: Friends, you should also know that the film 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' received one National Award and three Filmfare Awards.
Ashutosh Sinha: Director K. Balachander had earlier made this film in Telugu with the name 'Maro Charitra' in (1978). His hero was also Kamal Haasan. People liked the film. Now it has been decided to take this story to the Hindi speaking audience. But the star cast was not tampered with much. Almost all the characters of the original film except the leading lady Sarita were part of this remake. Rati Agnihotri played the role of Sarita in the Hindi version.This was the first Hindi film of all four, Kamal Haasan, Rati Agnihotri, Madhavi and singer S.P. Subramaniam. Including these four actors, the film 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' received Filmfare Award nominations in a total of 13 categories. Out of which three categories are Best Editing, N. R. Kittu

All three won Filmfare Awards.
