Great video! I used this to help me with my essay on Isaac Asimov.

I recently read the short story after hearing about it on Young Sheldon lol. The premise intrigued me so much. Not going to lie kinda fell slow in places but then I found the audio book on yt so last few pages, I listened to. Still good. 9/10 from me.

The first story I ever read was actually the Final Question by Asimov. Still have the collection in which I read it. Love Asimov so much

I once took a cruise ship from NYC to the island of of Bermuda for an observation session under truly dark skies. Issac Asimov was with us and gave a talk both on the ship and at the observing site at Bermuda. A line formed to look through the telescope...one of the first items viewed was Saturn. I was first in line, but Asimov's pushy wife pushed herself in front of me.....she looked and then astonishingly proclaimed, "Why, it's got a ring around it!" Yeah, lady...a well known fact ever since a telescope was first pointed at it way back in the 1600's! BHE

Interesting, we were at WVU at the same time. But to stay on topic, I read the full length book, not knowing there was a short story. I loved it, and I'm struggle to believe you could cut it down to a fraction of the size and it actually be better. But for now I'll have to take you word for it.

The biggest pitfall of Nightfall is: when the solar eclipse happened, it only happens on one side of the planet. The other side is still illuminated by the other 5 suns. People on this side of the planet might burn themselves, the other side will still carry on their normal lives. Civilization would not destroy itself.

I just realized that Douglas Adams set this exact same situation up for his characters on the planet Krikkit. But instead of destroying themselves on seeing all those stars, their leadership decides to destroy everything else the Universe.

I found Nightfall quite by accident back in like 2000 or 2001 I can't remember. Some old short stories book with cover mostly ripped off found it's way into my hands and I think Nightfall could have been the first story. I read it and turned into a massive fanboy just because of the striking alien concept of a world without night...and of course around those days was an obscure low budget flick with a then little known actor called Vin Diesel that toyed with the same concept and I saw the connection to Nightfall. brings me right back. (And I still love the name Illyra)

Literally a historical book about humanity! IN A WAY. Graham Hancock anyone? Previous civs wiped? Love the book, it translates what needs to be known about the coming grand solar minimum.

Nightfall is not the best science fiction short story (is there one?), but it is a great story. Silverberg's book sucks. It just dilutes the impact of the original.
