Met this guy years and years ago, played and drank all night. Never met a more down to earth guy ever. Always in my memory as a very musical man with a great deal of humor, both musical and in words.

Correct observation. Although Isaac's sets featured different combinations of familiar titles, he never did "carbon copy" party-piece performances. He always found freshness - both for himself and the audience - ever game to try spontaneous new slants on "old friends". This meant he sometimes played himself into trouble, then had to work out how to recover "on the fly". It was not unknown, though rare, for him to come off his bike! The consummate virtuoso. Seemingly effortless, anyone who's every picked up an flat-top acoustic guitar will understand just how great a player Issac was. His choice of material was sublime and you always had a sense that he really, really loved to play...

A stunning guitar man. His daughter, Sienna, is pretty spectacular and a fine actress. Apples don't fall far from the tree.

I watched him do a gig in our local pub - amazing guy - He is one of those that just makes you want to burn your guitar afterward because you just know you will never get anywhere close to that level of playing.

I remember him playing like this in Nottingham one night when he could barely stand for drink but he could still play your socks off! RIP

I went down to the Stage Door pub in Scarborough around 1987 to a folk club night. the place was packed to the rafters. I said to the guy sitting next to me 'Is this guy good then?' 'He walks on water.' was the response. As the evening progressed I realised this was not much of an exaggeration. A fabulous player and a true artist.

@Nerdovich - Well, I already played the bass and a little bit of guitar but to see an acoustic played in such a way was inspiring to say the least and Isaac changed my view on what could be played on an acoustic guitar. He was a very approachable and friendly guy with a great soul, miss seeing him at gigs. Thanks for asking :)

This is just great to see,I miss seeing Isaac playing live.I used to see him playing in small venues in and around Glasgow.A good memory of him is in the Brigg Inn in Barrhead.I was just 19 & there was no more than 8 people in the pub and only about 3 of us where there to see him play.I sat right in front of him and was quite literally SPELLBOUND, it was magical. Thanks for posting this, and for me to find it so close to the 10th anniversary of his passing is very poignant. See you on the beach

WOW! I first saw Isaac at the Brigg Inn in 1987 and, after a mundane floorspot from myself, he got me up to play with him on the second set. I was elated and so far out of my depth it was funny. I moved to England and saw him many times....then back to Scotland to try start a career- and we became friends. I still can't understand why he wasn't more famous....and am aware that he didn't really care. I got to play his old Martin D35S at a gig in London a few years ago and I keep in touch with Vikki, his wife. He was a genius and a gentleman. Thanks for reminding me of the Brigg!

I saw him and John at the arts center, Kings Lynn, Norfolk . John was great but past his prime . Isaac didn't have a prime as he played guitar more easily than he took a breath: the instrument was quite literally, not figuratively, part of him.

Fabulous to come across this footage, brings back memories, he was my tutor at summer school at the Guild Hall, he sounds even better than this video portrays in real life though, less echo! These tracks are on one of his CD's.

IKEA used to perform at Hitchin Folk Club every year. He was a highlight of the calender. Maureen even used an image from one of his CDs as a backdrop to the stage.

Look at that confidence....man, that is a hugely under appreciated artist. I've seen ventriloquist dummies with less movement in those fingers...Utterly unsurpassed, yet amazingly not a household name...but he didn't need no household name...some things are best out of the mainstream and this guy was it....AMAZING technique and skill.
