just a minor thing I've noticed that as far as I can tell, noone has pointed out: when Isaac is talking to Hector you can see him fix himself and Hector a drink; water and lime. The same drink the Captain offered him on the ship. To me it seems Isaac took the constructive criticism to heart and used it in more ways than one by bettering not only himself, but Hector aswell with a simple gift.

I think Isaac never had any favorite food or drink before in his life. He never take pleasure from eating. He only eat and drink to survive. He decline brandy from the ship captain. It’s poetic how issac a human so consumed by hatred for humans became the most human
@Nova-jw6ju3 жыл бұрын
A few things: 1. I’ve never played Castlevania, so the Isaac from the Netflix series is the only Isaac I’ve ever known. And he’s my favorite character in the animated series. 2. Isaac’s journey is so interesting because he came from a backgrpund where he was punished for simply existing. Because of this, he never pushed outside his “designated purpose.” It was only through a great and insightful journey that he learned to find his own purpose and a beauty in life that he had not seen since childhood. A child sees the world only for its beauty, while an adult can see the world for all its parts, but appreciate its beauty the most. 3. I would read a book about Isaac’s journey. His discovery and analysis of what most Abrahamic faiths call “the Problem of Evil” is very interesting, and I can greatly sympathize with it. He discovers that humans can do good or they can do evil, and that you cannot change that about them. You can only hope to influence them, and to leave this world better than you found it…which, y’know maybe *murder* and *raising demons from Hell* weren’t exactly the most tame methods, but he’s living his truth, so what are you gonna do?

I loved Isaac's talks with Fly Eyes. It was strange, at first, seeing him talk to a demon, a creature up to that point made to be used, not spoken with. A character changing, especially if you're just doing a race-swap, only works if it has a key element: "Sincerity". This character was always sincere throughout with their motivations: why they were okay with Dracula's plan, their self-flagellation as a component of their faith, interactions with new characters, motivations developing and changing, being challenged and restructured over and over again. Everything about this character is.....natural, pure, sincere. Extreme, certainly, brutal, definitely. But it's "them". It's their character, through and through. Not many characters get this well-written of an arc.

All I wanted was to make them smile, all I wanted is to be by my side when I need them. Everything changed after grandpa died. I doubted myself I thought I was a bad grandson because I wouldn’t. I didn’t want to see him like that slowly away in my grasp when I hold his hand, comforting him, they put me through tears for the man who helped me turn into , it was my grandpa. My grandpa was a strong man who was. Kind and gentle but strong surviving different things of life and war in his time. He was a soldier that fought in Vietnam, and he saw the horror of the world . Didn’t he wanted to be a better person he wanted to teach his grandchildren, his children . Until the very end . After a week and they got him ready for the funeral I didn’t know what I wanted anymore until now I wanted to learn I wanted to read. I wanted to cook more. I want to feel the wind in my face and a hot sun beaming on me while I relax in the sun looking up at the sky until I see twilight of the stars.

Issac is definitely the stand-out charecter in Netflix's Castlevania. Granted I adore Trevor, Sypha and Alucard, the dialogue is also top notch. But the sheer odyssey of Issac and his transformation is so compelling it's hard not to route for the guy. As for the swaping of his race? Well That's a tricky situation. I think that certain charecters can tell certain stories better. I also do not believe that when it was written having Issac being a colored man was even a thought that would have been mildly entertained (yes I know it would have been 90's to early 2000s but "optics" for the time probably wouldn't have allowed for that). More importantly though I belive in leting the strength of a story do the talking. Issac is a compelling character, race be damned. A talented storyteller can make any character regardless of race, gender, orientation by grounding them in one critical trait we all share "humanity".

The Sufi background of Issac is so so well done, if I can add. His robe (Khamis or kandora in UAE region) is perfect. How he is wearing black khamis when he is Dracula’s Army, he covered with a white cape, when he finds the magic mirror, I think he sees true self and start to appreciate life, his takes off his rope in the conquest battle, to show us a bright blue khamis. The fight with legion, the dull light on his blue khamis *chef kiss* Two other things I noticed, how he holds his knife and spins looks like he is doing a Sufi whirling. He does a perfect spin in the Camila fight. That is more common in Turkey with Dervish’s. When Dracula comes to ask for his help, Issac talks about dogs. That could be a subtle hint at the relationship with Hyenas and Sufi Muslims in Harar, Ethiopia. Sorry for tl;dr 😂

Videos like this is the exact reason why I tried to finish Castlevania before watching reviews and I am so glad I did so. This video explains exactly how I felt about Isaac and his entire odyssey in the show. The dialogues, the philosophy, the witty banter is just so amazing. Additionally I was blown away by what he originally looked and act like, and I am pretty happy with the change. Glad to see this video and I hope to see more from you in the future.

So, Doom, Berserk , and Castlevania... I think I found gold. Focusing on Issiac my favorite character, For me, Issiac was a background character almost that immediately stood out and I gravitated to. And like you said I became engrossed with his subtle development. I guess I loved his (usual) calm demeanor and .. idk just a character that clicked for me The algorithm finally delivered gold. Consider me subscribed. Now excuse me while I deep dive all your vids. See you in the comment section

I played Curse of Darkness when it first released and I loved it, so when I heard the forgemasters would be a part of the Animated Series, my expectations were high already but I wasn’t expecting them to be blown away. I loved Isaac’s arc in this, and completely agree that this is the absolute correct way to enhance a character in a different direction from the core material. Loved the video!

Very well made narration, well done! The character development of both Issac and Hector are great to look back on in retrospect. One of my favorite arcs in the show, glad his journey is getting the recognition it deserves

Great video again, but this time I’m not going to watch it til the end. I don’t want it spoiled too much haha

The one thing I think this video sells short is the significance of Carmilla and Isaac as foils to one another. Both of them are heavily shaped by the pain they suffered under abuse and slavery, and both of them accumulated power and used it on others as a form of retaliation for and self-protection from that pain. Oftentimes with villains like Carmilla, whose evil actions are motivated by the oppression and suffering they experienced, other series will unconsciously present a message that someone who came from servitude subverting the status quo and overpowering their former oppressors is in and of itself something evil, and the protagonists (who are usually from more privileged backgrounds) have to kill them for the greater good - if any other powerful man in the series had defeated Carmilla, then it would only be reinforcing that inferiority to privileged men is her 'proper place in the world.' But Isaac and Carmilla are cut from the same cloth of servitude and oppression, and by the time they fight, he's also come to hold the same ambitions of conquest; Isaac doesn't want her dead so that things can 'go back to the way they used to be' like in so many other stories. He ALSO has no love for the status quo, and intends to upend it and remake the world into something better. That Isaac goes from a slave and a victim to a king and a conqueror isn't sinister, but hopeful; the difference between them lies in the fact that Carmilla never moved on from her old wounds, and is still stuck in her traumatized childhood mentality - in the same way Isaac described Hector, and in the same way Carmilla described Isaac and Hector both - while Isaac has grown to look to the future and create something positive with it. But this is an amazing video outlining Isaac's arc and his humanity. Isaac is by far my favorite character in Netflix Castlevania, and I also had similar feelings to the ones you mentioned - not expecting much from his early appearances, only to be completely blown away as time went on. His conversations on philosophy in seasons 3 and 4 were so fascinating, and his conclusion and smile as he declared he was going to live absolutely ended me. I'm still in shambles. It was so good. Thank you for making this!!

Isaac was for me the best surprise about Castlevania: initially I thought it was just the stoic zealot follower of Dracula, but seeing him walk his path of self-discovery questioning himself and his motives to become his own person was really rewarding. It went from being just someone's minion to literally the protagonist of his own story, and personally I found the parts with him the highlight of season 3.

You know, I love the original Isaac. He's an unhinged bastard with a sadistic streak and obsessed with hurting Hector and the revival of Dracula. As antagonists go, he's simple, but endearing in its own, twisted way. Apparently he was very popular with the game devs. And dueling him is one of the high points of the game: his fight in Cordova with him wielding his Chauve-Souris and Abel is among my favourite moments overall. Besides, Liam O'Brien is an excellent voice actor and he gives Isaac a lot of his mania. I know people love to hate on the original Isaac, but I like how villainous he was. And even then, I have to acknowledge that the new Isaac is a better character. Probably unsuited for a videogame, but the series is a very different beast. The new Isaac isnt trying to be a counterpart to anything: he has his own journey, his own tribulations, his own character arc and his own "redemption" of sorts, even though he stays fairly on the grey side of the scale. I really liked how his arc explores the concept of slavery, both physical and mental, and how his own growth turns him into a liberator, in a way. He's a well made character and, eerily enough, a good replacement, something that most current writers are unable to do. It's sad to see how underrated he is in terms of quality characters. I still love the original Isaac, though. And I still wish they had kept the Chauve-Souris. That weapon is just amazeballs.

Here’s a blooper, just in case no one has seen it yet. In Scene 3 Episode 2 The Captain (@ approximately 1:07) , mentions that Isaac is a forge master. But in Scene 3 Episode 3, The Captain (@ approximately 1:21) acts like this is the first time that he is being informed of Isaac, being a forge master. The correlation between the former & latter conversations are anachronistically askew.

I thought he was humouring Isaac becuase he didn't know much about Forge Masters and how they work. People in starwars know what a Jedi is, but if one sits down and talks about being a Jedi, those listening are getting a new insight into how they work.

Issacs changes work so well because they make him so much more interesting as a contrast to Hector. Instead of Hector's counterpart being just a generic masochistic lunatic, we get a genuinely compelling character that feels more 3 dimensional than just a generic villainous counterpart

This show has so many good characters. Never see an animated reboot done so well while paying tribute and expanding the franchise. There’s an interesting way to see Isaac and Hectors arc. They are called forgemasters. They began as loyal servants to Dracula. When he died and the power vacuum was left empty, they went through personal journeys of *forging* their own lives and becoming *masters* of their own fates. They learned to love when the world had demonized them. Rather than become like Dracula and other vampires whom became mad with powers, they chose their own path in the end. Power only feeds on itself. Power is greed. Strength is fueled. Strength is passion and compassion. At surface level, they are two sides of the same coin, but one’s perception makes the difference nonetheless. That’s why I love Isaac’s character. Just so many amazing moments and growth with him.

Your words lack passion. This is my only complaint as your sight however sees the truth of what you perceive. Well done. There is an argument that the want for personal gain can be seen as greed, and Issac is the rabbit hole of such. Already having the power of "Hell" in the literal at his command yet not seeking any more personal power except that which he already commanded. I believe it was the Buddha who said being satisfied with what you already have is the truth path to happiness. I'm glad to see this path is different for every man or woman. The whole conversation about him emptying Hell of its humans as a good thing was a very interesting warping of morality that bore fruit in his conversations with the former philosopher...

When I started Castlevania, Isaac was, to me, the weakest, least interesting character. I saw him as a weak link in the character chain, and I was worried that he would bring the show down, or be made out as a worthless addition. But then, I watched all of it. And Isaac is, without question, my number two character right behind Trevor. And that's a high bar- almost every character in the show is a powerhouse of personality, even Varney's intolerable ass. His growth, his development, the way he slowly became the single most... well, human character in the show from his starting point was nothing short of art- and he absolutely blew me away. I started watching the show because I'm an OG fan. I finished watching it because Isaac was just too damn good. Because Trevor was funny. Because Alucard was angsty and everybody teased him for it. Because Sypha was sharp as a whip. And in a sea of bangers, ain't nobody as big a banger as my boy Isaac.
