His sound doesn't have a lot of "core", but that's his sound. Like or don't, I dig it. After hundreds of years of pretty much the same standard for proper trombone tone, some change is cool. I play bass for instance, which has changed a LOT over it's short existance for the better.

All discussion about sound quality is useless when listening to the distorted sound that is recorded on a typical video camera's built-in mic and audio section. Also, terms like "core" are hardly ever heard in discussions with actual professional trombone players (I know most of my friends are professional musicians and have been for decades. . .) Did Frank Rosolino have "core". . .no? Well, then who gives a damn what "core" is?
