Indeed, but no need to apologize really. It did take a few of his earlier episodes to get "used" to this, but this was really helped, for me, when I watched an episode where he's on camera. This seemed to fix any initial listening "difficulties" for good. I also have first-hand experience of a speech impediment, during my youth and early 20s. Isaac is certainly a great narrator and presenter (one of the best I know of) and I for one get a great deal of enjoyment from watching these videos.

I've been here from 2015ish... also went back and watched pretty much everything from the very beginning too. Still remember the speech impediment apologies, it's remarkable how much your voice has improved since then though that was never an issue for me. The writing and ideas discussed is what makes this show so special. Also, somewhat amusingly, when I initially stumbled upon your channel, i actually remember doubting the realism of your incredibly realistic topics. Anyway, congrats on being here for 10 years, looking forward to still tuning into this show every Thursday at the end of the universe.

Isaac you are exemplary, really. We need more science communicators that manage to refute pseudoscience without also rejecting the concept of spirituality.* *I know spiritual people do that too in reverse and even more so, but people being uncivilized doesn't excuse those with the higher moral and intellectual ground stooping to their level.

Most spiritual people do not do that. I don't know what are you talking about. Maybe you see a vocal minority in your life. Even this episode starts with a Jesuite scientists. Most sci-fi authors and scientists are also spiritual people. So there is a huge overlap in the Venn diagram. Also spiritual covers more than religious. Most non spiritual people I know of respects spiritual people as do most spiritual people. You just need to shut out close minded aggressive asses from your life.

@juimymary9951 2 ай бұрын
@@4124V4TA-SNPCA-x Hmmm I can agree to that, though it's a bit hard for me but I am working on it. The people I was talking about though were mainly big shot 'spiritualists' and cult leaders like Deepack Chopra and the like who tend to use spirituality to either undermine science or misuse science to make their claims stronger. I consider them very dangerous because they appeal strongly to the need of self-trascendence and use it against people while also damaging our scientific development in the short and long term.

If there is a multiverse, I wonder if, when I dream, that dream comes from thousands of copies of myself, and some of "my" thoughts in those universes. One dream I had even probably saved my life. I was a kid climbing a tree everyday, but didn't know that the tree's wood was very brittle (a sumac tree). One night I dreamed that the top of the tree broke, and I fell from about 20 feet high. After that dream, I didn't climb that tree again.

To ancient sea creatures that hadn't adapted to living on land yet, we would be the equivalent of ascended/transcended beings to them. I know that's an oversimplification of the idea and process, but I still think it's a valid data point and example.

That's a good analogy. For all we know some civilizations could be living inside blackholes of be the reason for why they exist. There is so much mystery sorroundings those and the universe, like how physics dramatically change in the quantum scale, even tho it could be just our tools not being able to properly analyze quantum of a constant/property we haven't yet discovered

@@rRekko idk why, but your comment made me wonder what would happen to a particle that was quantum entangled with another particle that was then blasted through a particle accelerator to crash into something else. Would the entangled particle that wasnt fired be destroyed or transformed depending on what happened to the one that was shot through the accelerator.

12:40 is solving the Fermi paradox very neatly. Advanced civilizations quickly realize that they can achieve more with less. That they miniaturize their civilization and optimize it by creating "pocket universes" in which they can be gods in a playground of their own making. Makes absolute sense.

The other option I can see is that while Transcendence does exist and it may be popular, we lack the means of seeing and understanding what is or is not transcended. This whole time we've been assuming we can recognize transcendence, but what if we can't? In this case we may ourselves have already become transcendent before but we are unable to see/know it.

As an answer to why an advanced, transcendent civilization wouldn't go around teaching everyone how to ascend: it may not be practical or even possible to do so. Such a thing could require a level of personal understanding and revelation that cannot be "taught." I can show you an enlightened transcendent being "here is the Buddha" but I cannot teach you to BE the Buddha. In a more rational sense, I could teach someone to think independently and critically, but the conclusions they reach must be their own or the process has failed. (Which isn't to say independent and critical thinkers cannot reach the same conclusions)

I think they wouldn't share it because it may involve the revelation of at least one truth so disturbing that proof of it causes irreparable psychological damage to those who aren't ready. The universe and any other plane of reality has no obligation to prevent breaking us, and we evolved in ignorance of whatever truth allows transcendence.

Congratulations on 10 years! I remember 5 or so years back (definitely before the pandemic), seeing KZbin recommend these odd looking videos called "Something Aliens" and thinking "I don't know, for testing something out they look a bit on the long side", and then eventually "Oh alright, I'll give them a go.". This was shortly followed by "I AM GOING TO WATCH THROUGH THE ENTIRE BACK CATALOGUE!" 😄 (at a one or a few a day this took me a fair few months). At which point I was like "Aw, no longer a new to me one each day." 😅. This show has talked about many things but in particular I thank Isaac for introducing me to space habitats. I always thought humanity's future would involve living not just on Earth, but my view was the basic sci-fi classic of "go live on other planets" (not saying all sci-fi is like that). This show really opened my eyes. Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur - Came for the aliens, stayed for the megastructures 😁 (ah, who I am kidding I stayed for the aliens too, and everything else). Whoa.. I've been watching your show since you had less than 5,000 subs. Somewhere around there. I didn't know it had been that many years yet. Time marches on.

Happy birthday 🎂 the first episode i heard of yours was called "stupid aliens." Since then, i have listened to most if not all your episodes. I usually listen to a few as i fall asleep. Im subcribed and try to remember to hit like on them all. Thanks for creating this channel. I will be listening as long as you keep doing them.

I'm still here. Did translations on episodes in 2016-17 and chatted with you in comments when you said that probably soon the channel will be too large to reply to every comment. I also plan for the long run. I'm 35 but thanks to a lot of measures people give 10 years less. So see you around, respectable sir Isaac Arthur ⏲ Supported you for 6 years on Patreon!

As I understand it, in order to transcendence, you need to look at higher laws up stream, which will allow to conquer your current problems. And there are always higher principles to be found and all processes can be combined.

Best as we know it there is no universal rule requiring laws being decipherable from lower sets of derived rules. It seems like that is the case but there's zero evidence that is necessarily the case and if such exist they may or may not be decipherable even to the point of knowing about them.

Happy birthday! Although 44 is quite young and comfortably in what I call "the time of the irrelevant birthdays." You're old enough to drink and be president of the US, and have been for some years, but still decades away from retirement. It's still important for kids, probably a leftover from the time when surviving childhood was a remarkable achievement. It's also important at more advanced ages, for example old enough to retire and, depending on how well you've taker care of yourself and how good you were at picking your genes, each one is an increasingly impressive achievement. As to transcendence, I achieved it not long before my 19th birthday. I was a young Fire Control Technician (FTG, USN, seems to be similar to Army MOS 13R) in training at Great Lakes, where the drinking age was 21. But up in Milwaukee it was 21 so that's where we went. I was in a bar playing pinball, because I was an 18 year old sailor and we have stereotypes to maintain. I was absolutely destroying the machine and thought I may have been able to roll it over to 0 score. I was aware of the pinball, the machine, the bar, and the entire universe including all of the atoms that made it up. I was also pretty drunk because, as mentioned, I was a sailor and we have stereotypes to maintain. This is a true story and the truth of my transcendence was proven years later when, as a fully fledged FTG on a ship somewhere, one of my shipmates (that's Navy lingo for colleague) noted that my first two initials are TM, which stands for Transcendental Meditation. It all fits and someday you'll understand. I'm no longer drunk, bet much older that Mr. Arthur.
