yep wasn’t a fluke win as an alabama fan, they showed up to play and we didn’t
@joshuajacobs2152Ай бұрын
I would say it was a fluke win in that weird turnovers penalties killing off drives and giving them 21 points due to penalties extending drives and 4th down. Bama out yards had 9.9 yards per play and they had like 5.5 per play them and kept it close dispite only having the ball less than 25% of the game. A non fluke would be a blowout or more just them not having drives happen due to opportunistic turnovers, peanektirs, snd the punt pinned in the 5 yard line which gave them the ball at the 50 yard line. Notredame Illinois on paper was less of a fluke. Since time of possession was even, no turnover monster, and less yards per play. Vanderbilt this year also has a better offense tho.

THE REAL REASON FOR VANDY'S SUCESS - The New Mexico State connection started with two coaches, Jerry Kill and Tim Beck. Kill is "chief consultant to the head coach and senior offensive advisor" and Beck is the offensive coordinator. Those two will make a difference to the Commodores for years to come. Check out Kills resume, he's one of those "turn-around coaches". Kill & Beck are the reason QB Pavia and tight end Eli Stowers came to Vandy. Stowers had six catches for 113 yards, 83 of which came after the catch. A total of five players transferred from NMSU to Vandy.

This Bama team lacks discipline, and it’s been obvious all season. Imagine Saban’s reaction if his defense allowed 3 first downs off of stupid penalties in a single drive. Imagine what he would say if his team was celebrating a TD while they’re still trailing to VANDERBILT. Or what he would do to Malachi Moore for kicking the ball away when Vanderbilt went into victory formation. Not even close to the biggest upset ever. Vanderbilt has a decent team, were at home and were only 23 point underdogs. In 2007 #1 USC was a 41 point favorite over Stanford and playing at USC with a 35-game home winning streak when Stanford won. And there's a bunch of other 35+ point underdogs that were much bigger upsets than this.

Still not bigger than App State Michigan...

The game where App State beat Michigan will always be the biggest upset! Go Mountaineers

Let’s get this right off the bat. This is NOT the biggest upset in college football history. That still goes to App State over Michigan. And there are plenty more upsets like Montana over Washington in 2021 that I can think of

Nah
@evanwilliams8627Ай бұрын
To be the biggest upset in history I think you would need to consider it being an unranked team over the number 1 team. That’s important. App State over Michigan was #1 (FCS) App State vs. #5 (FBS) Michigan. App State had just won 2 consecutive FCS National Championships the two previous years. Now that being said, it is still FCS over FBS so the “one of the biggest upsets” title still sticks for that game. Michigan was defeated at the last second on a field goal block. Now this Bama vs Vanderbilt upset is bigger (IMO) because you’ve got a Bama team who has just defeated #2 UGA (albeit in a very close game) and a Vanderbilt team that has lost to Georgia State 2 games ago. Vanderbilt comes out and completely outperforms the #1 team in the country. Bama never has a lead. Bama is getting pushed around on the lines of scrimmage. Vanderbilt doesn’t even have 25% of their crowd cheering for them at a home game. It’s all Bama fans. That’s why this game is being called the greatest upset of all time. Of course it’s subjective and not every one will agree, but that’s what does the label justice for me.

@@evanwilliams8627 I completely understand where you’re coming from and I get it, but here’s my rebuttal to it. This Vandy team is still much better than the ones of previous years. They’ve shown vast improvement. And now let’s go back to 2007 when Stanford beat USC. The Trojans were ranked #2 in the country and were playing a Stanford team that was considered arguably the worst Power 5 team the previous year and that year as well. Well Stanford won on the road despite USC being favored by 42 points. So that’s another example of what I would call a bigger upset
@frankf684Ай бұрын
Washington went 4-8 that year not that big of an upset.

Not only did Saban say Vandy was the only easy place to play, he took off the red bama tie.

Well, it's about time! I've often thought that Vanderbilt was unworthy to be in the SEC, it's good to see that they proved they belong.
@BigfistJPАй бұрын
It was a big upset, but nowhere close to the biggest upset in football history. When Pete Carroll was coaching USC, and had great, great teams, they were once beaten by Stanford, who was a fifty point underdog. Years later, as a 35 point underdog, Stanford beat Oregon .
@Sacto1654Ай бұрын
Biggest? That would be Appalachian State (then an FCS team!) beating Michigan at the "Big House" in 2007. That loss still reverberates through collage football even now.
@frankf684Ай бұрын
How does it still reverberate?it has no lasting impact on the sport.

App State won the FCS championship that year. They were a good team.

Malachi Moore, gets blasted for throwing his mouth piece, kicking the football and shoving Pavia’s head down. Yet I don’t see anyone talking about the haymakers he landed on Alexander at 10:40

I think the best comparison for level of upset would be App State over Michigan, but a couple things that I think make this game more impressive is the situations surrounding the Michigan game. Mainly App State was coming off of back to back FCS National Championships, as well as it being week 1, upsets are way more common in the first couple weeks

I always bet a quarter on the underdog. To say this least, this win paid off all other past underdog bets lol
@HKmoney-OfficalАй бұрын
This was so strange that I’m not entire convinced Vandy wasn’t listening to Alabamas Helmet Comms to get an edge. I mean Vandy was accused of doing the same thing with the pitch Comms earlier this year in baseball and the SEC handled it behind the scenes.

As a proud Uconn Student I am glad that Vandy had this win. They were down here in the fucking Trenches with us but 2 years ago contending with us to be the worst D-1 team. Glad to see them rise to the top. Hopefully UConn figure it out soon as well.

ironically, before the days of Bear Bryant, Vandy actually had beaten Bama more often than lost. But once "The Bear" lead the The Tide, they dominated Vandy and never looked back.
