This was more of 2010’s i would say from 2008 from 2013 is when it was on fire when comes wins and losses in the playoffs for a chance at the superbowl but it was unfair Steelers had a hall of fame quarterback we only had Joe Flacco he was just very good to average quarterback he wasn’t a hall of fame quarterback

It would be considering that not that many big 4 North American sports stars are professional bowlers. Actually, the only one I can think of is Mookie Betts. He's not exactly winning national tournaments, granted, but he's managed to bowl a 300 on a PBA oil pattern, which easily places him in the top .1% of all bowlers, if not .01% or even higher. Of course, he makes up for that by being a generational talent at his day job. The only bowler I can think of who's excelled at both bowling and another sport/game at not just professional, but world-class, levels is Walter Ray Williams Jr., who's got a legit case as the greatest bowler of all time, or at least the greatest northpaw if you prefer Earl Anthony. In his case, he's also one of the all-time great horseshoe pitchers, winning global events, and I think he's a scratch golfer.

Ravens-Steelers 2008 to 2012 was the most brutal five year run between two teams in the history of this league. Met in the playoffs twice. Accounted for three AFC Championships, two Superbowl titles and, at least, a hundred concussions. Amazing run in the AFC North.

70s Steelers and 70s Raiders from 1972-1977 was the most brutal. 5 straight years they met in the playoffs, 3 AFC championship games and all 3 times the winner of that game won the Super Bowl (Steelers twice in 74’ and 75’, and Raiders once in 76’). The Steelers had 10 hall of famers and the Raiders had 10 hall of famers in those years. Steelers and Ravens 2008-2012 are a close 2nd.

This video touched me. I grew up a Steelers fan in the Carolinas, largely due to my dad, but other than him, it was Troy. It had to be Troy. Who else could make you love that side of the ball in that way. Who else could inspire you, gobsmack you, and fire you up in that way in that era. I'm a Panthers fan now, hometown teams just felt right to me once Troy retired, and the Panthers going on that wild run to 15-1 and a super bowl appearance right as I lost the guy who made me a football fan sealed it. But I'll always have fondness for this era of Steelers football. Forever in my heart.

This game cemented the rivalry into NFL history forever, two legendary defenses standing on their heads for 60 minutes, waiting for that breaking point to happen, eventually Polamalu found it. I remember this game like it was yesterday, watching with my dad in our old family living room, every Steelers/Ravens game since has been an echo of that 2008 Championship matchup. It was storybook, I’ll remember that day always

Steelers v Ravens is iconic, even today. For those 3 hours it's like being teleported back in time, when there were bona fide rivalries and defense was king. Somehow, someway the games are always nail biters. I think it is so unique because while the two teams (and fans) hate each other, they also have a sort of respectful admiration of each other. It's can't miss football we get to watch at least 2 times a year (3x if we're lucky).

As a Ravens fan who grew up in Pennsylvania I can honestly say. I disliked Steelers fans much more than the team themselves lol. Even now the rivalry doesn't feel the same. I'm not even talking about the physicality. Back then you could guarantee that both teams were going to bring their a-game and it was up to the other team to make plays and stop them. Now it just feels like the Ravens find ways to lose, And the Steelers just show up and kick field goals

Brett, a replay of the 2006 divisional game between the Chargers and the Patriots - the last game Marty Schottenheimer ever coached - would be awesome. Incidentally, future Ravens OC Cam Cameron was the Chargers offensive coordinator that day. Little known is Marty Schottenheimer was wearing a microphone for that game and NFL Films NEVER released that audio. I saw a partial transcript. Chargers GM AJ Smith was quoted later as saying you cannot have a coach on-the-sidelines who snaps like a 'dry twig' under pressure in the playoffs. He meant Marty's meltdown that day.

I'm not that old, but I grew up to see this era of the sport, and it makes me emotional a bit to see what once was. Also, Polamalu is easily one of the greatest defenders of all time. Being able to read plays like he did with the athleticism he had... I hope teams and fans that have/had players like him appreciate that talent. Maybe it was all in the hair eh? If any Ravens fans see this... cheers to continued great rivalry games!

I live in Pittsburgh and the Steelers are my team. The rivalry between the Steelers and Ravens especially in the Roethlisberger Flacco era was brutal! I'll never forget that AFC championship when Troy Polamalu ran a pick six sending the Steelers to Superbowl 43! Amazing game!

Excellent work as always. As a titans fan, watching CJ2K dust defenders effortlessly was always a pleasure. And watching two of our AFC central rivals duke it out with all those absolute legends on the field? Man. A person can only hope to be that lucky to witness that again.

Fantastic video here. I just watched this game through again a couple of nights ago, and it's just as gripping and cheek clenching as ever. Love the play breakdowns too! Never saw those plays with that much analysis. Just wish you had delivered a tad more on the hits, you hyped up the physicality and didn't even include the absolute leveling of McGahee by Clark, which is to date still one of the nastiest collisions I have ever seen.

Grew up on the other side of the state, didn’t matter, still a Yinzer til I die, this game was iconic. I remember playing Madden and trying to time the snap with Polamalu the same way I saw him do it on the field, shit was nuts.

The 2000 Ravens were indisputably the best. 10.3 points a game allowed, destroyed two top 3 offenses in the playoffs and only the second team to shut out an offense in the Super Bowl (the Giants only score in the Super Bowl was a special teams touchdown.)

One of the best games ever. I don’t think that’s hyperbole. Two hard nosed teams, two all time great defenses in another chapter of the best rivalry in the modern NFL. Even though it’s tough to look back at this game as a Ravens fan, it’s hard to not respect what both of these teams brought to the table. You can talk about all the pro bowlers, but what about the hall of famers on both sides? Lewis, Reed and Troy are obvious. But guys like Big Ben, Suggs, Harrison, Yanda, Ngata and Ward have at least strong cases to make the HOF themselves. Crazy to think Flacco was a rookie this season. Talk about a trial by fire. He gets to face Ray Lewis and Ed Reed every day in practice and then gets to face Troy and James Harrison in the biggest game of his life.

This is an amazing video. As a non-local Steelers fan who had to settle for watching from the couch, to this day all those iconic moments are burned into my brain. But taking us into the deep film study, breaking down the nuts and bolts of each playcall and audible leading up to those moments, just adds an indelible layer to it all. And the storytelling aspect you applied to all of this, in both narration and BGM choices, is impressive. If I had to offer one minor critique, it would be that giving a bit of extra context to where each team had been over the last three or four years coming into the game would have added an extra layer of depth, especially for the people who hadn't been plugged into AFC North football during that time period. Understanding that the Ravens were just emerging from a period of mediocrity under a new generation at several key positions, with several figures from their prior successes still thriving for the group; or that the Steelers were an established threat just rounding into their prime but looking to build on early successes with their core, would have added that extra bit of gravitas to the whole thing, and probably for not a lot of extra runtime either. But, again, a minor critique on a superb video.

Why so many Pro Bowlers? -- This was in 2008, three years before the "2011 NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement." That agreement ushered in today's salary cap system in which players become free agents after 4 years, and many switch teams. Today, teams can no longer "afford"' to keep a dozen Pro Bowlers on their roster, with the current salary cap structure . . . Regarding the physicality of the game, the 2011 agreement limited the number of padded practices and 2-a-day practices. That along with rules regarding concussions, has led to less "physical" play than what you saw in the 2008 game.
@BobBob-eb4io
@BobBob-eb4io Ай бұрын
I think the limited padded practices have hurt the nfl's product so much, especially o line play. Also, i feel like they should add something where if you pay a player, you drafted a percentage of the payment doesn't go against the cap.so players are more likely to stick with the team that drafted them and its a win for the player since they dont have to move there family all the time.
