Another really important thing to mention, which I feel you may have missed out.. SO many people use hair pieces or hair extensions. Pinterest girls and celebrities. Pamela Anderson had hair extensions. Jennifer Anniston had them when she had that super long hair, but now stated she only uses hair pieces for fullness. Those perfect hairstyles we often see, are not achievable for the majority without a little bit of help. Love this video ❤

Celebrities, I understand. I just recently watched a TikTok claiming that Sabrina Carpenter’s hair is actually just extensions. It does make sense because her hair didn’t look the way it does now, in comparison to when she was a child. So, I get it…celebrities clearly are different than us. They have more money and resources than we will ever have. It’s when I get to KZbin and see “regular” girls with great hair that I start thinking maybe if I do all of what they’re doing that my hair will at the very least look better. I enter a state of literal delusion. I try so hard to tell myself KZbin has changed in the last ten/15 years. What you see from these “regular” people is not reality. But, it still doesn’t help. I’m not trying to hate on these hair girlies for just existing. If I had good hair, I would show it off too. I would want to share my “secrets” with people as well. But, these girls, man. Sometimes, they hurt my soul. 🤣 I see the same thing in other places like Reddit or TikTok. These “regular” girls showing their amazing hair. Celebrities, I don’t care. I can separate the delusion from reality. These girls, I don’t know what happens to my brain.

Yes!! I follow a small-ish youtuber that was formerly mostly makeup content and she looks so flawless and her hair is so smooth and full but I have to remind myself she's wearing extensions and a lot of that hair is fake and highly styled. Without makeup and extensions she looks like a regular girl with fine bleached hair you'd see at the grocery store lol.

Even those without all that, their hair only looks perfect for a little window of time. If they were honest, 4 hours later after walking around in humidity and hot Sun, with wind blowing it about, their hair won't look as styled and perfectly in place. There is definitely lots of styling before they ever post. Celebrities have hair and makeup people with them for touch ups for events and shoots. I have thick shiny hair that is currently waist length. It's genetics. Both my grandmas always had beautiful long hair. My fast growth rate and hair strength has little to do with products or routines. My hair can actually look like "that," but only right after a fresh cut, treatment, and blowout. The day after, it looks normal again. 😅

Did she mention Keratin treatments in this video? because that is literally what it is. I have had one when I went to Colombia. It both relaxes and gives the hair a crazy unrealistic shine. It is is hard to find in US and UK as it is not a trend here but there are so many brands and products to achieve this in South America, although I imagine easily attainable im USA too due to borders and a lot of Latin influence and it being a bigger place with places like LA that care about this stuff so will naturally have the products.

I know a girl who has the most perfect hair every single day. Why? Because she washes and heat styles it daily. Blowdries it with a very powerful blowdryer on the hot setting and uses a curling iron. Her ends get murdered by this and she periodically gets trims. It helps that she has good hair genetics but she didn't get the glossy hair sleeping with coconut oil on her head, she got it from styling it flawlessly. Haircare has its place for preserving the ends to grow long hair but it won't change the texture

@@Lucy-nx7bxyeah damage can be hidden with heat styling… but only for so long. Eventually it will be noticeable no matter how good your genetics are. It’s a vicious cycle of using heat to cover up damage only to cause more damage. Taking care of your hair is not something to be scuffed at if you want ACTUAL healthy hair that doesn’t need to be styled everyday to look decent.

@@Binnie_303 you're preaching to the choir, I've been doing that for years. But no matter how healthy I get my hair to be, it'll never look as amazing as the hair of someone who heatstyled it, because heatstyling makes it unnaturally glossy and bouncy and frizz-free. If Isabella wants that look, she should just heat style it and do regular upkeep with heat protection and trims

The thing is, I literally NEVER see that kind of perfect hair out in the wild. The next time you go outside, just to the store or to school/work whatnot, look at people's hair. You'll find that that kind of hair is rare if not nonexistent. Even the people with naturally beautiful, frizz free hair usually don't have that hair you see online or on celebrities. I hate heat styling and all of those elaborate hair care routines are also too much, so I do the minimum I can get away with. I also keep it medium length which is easier to deal with as the ends don't get as dry and it's just easier to wash and, if I do it, style, less hair. It saves me a lot of stress and money and I wouldn't have THAT hair anyway no matter what. The only way to get it would be to go the route of extensions to bulk it up and Keratin/Brazilian blow outs. And that stuff is expensive and could just leave me with worse (fried) hair down the line. Btw, I think your hair is BEAUTIFUL even though it's not "glass hair". AND you have absolutely amazing natural nails, which some people cannot seem to grow no matter what they do either.

Yep, I’ve only known a couple of people with hair like that and their hair really only looked like that sometimes (probably like the day after washing and thoroughly heat styling) and a lot of the time their hair just looked like anyone else’s.

I've definitely seen hair like this out in the wild. Several times. Two girls are people I went to school with for 6 years, their hair definitely looked like this allll the time. It was a weird day if their hair wasn't perfect, and it happened maybe once or twice to both of them in those 6 years. And we were kids, so there's no way they were sporting extensions, not to mention I used to interact with their hair to practice braiding and I definitely would've noticed any extensions. Another girl was Middle Eastern so she genetically had super thick and dense hair including her eyelashes and brows. Perfect hair always, nothing could make it wild. She had like 2 flyaways and that's it lol. Blunt cuts and probably great haircare because she never had split or dry ends, but I never asked her for a routine. Obvious overnight curls on occasion, her hair was naturally straight when she didn't do anything to it. I don't think she used heat, but idk Another girl in high school who was Vietnamese, she had hip length hair and did nothing to take care of it. It was clear from her outward appearance and presentation that she didn't have the best maintenance routines for her skin, nails, or clothing, yet her hair was just flawless (sometimes greasy bc of not washing). She even said the only reason her hair was too long is because she was lazy to cut it. When I saw the girls like this on tiktok it was normal to me because I've seen it multiple times irl. It's unrealistic for everyone, but it's not impossible. For some, it's not even a lot of effort to have hair like that. I doubt any of the girls I know even spent over 50 dollars a month on haircare. The only thing I think they all have in common is extremely minimal heat styling and completely virgin hair.

@@бронза.вафля.конус To be fair, I said "RARE if not nonexistent". Isabella also mentioned that it's possible for some people, such as if your hair is naturally smooth and thick but got damaged by lack of proper care/bleaching. You've seen it, but it's rare and unattainable for most of us even with the best hair care. I sometimes see really great thick, completely frizz/flyaway free hair, but it's still not what you see online or on TV. That kind of hair is close to unreal. Also, please don't talk about 50 dollars a month for just hair care like that's low. For many of us, that's pretty steep in this economy when people are struggling to make rent and buy groceries, especially for students. I do buy only salon quality products, and that still doesn't add up to 50 a month because they can be used sparingly and last for many months. I know some of these hair KZbinrs spend significantly more than than, several hundreds every month, but that's not feasible for most of us. Hair is their income. Mine just needs to look clean and not like I just rolled out of bed for me to do mine.

Interesting, I truly think that depends on where you are. I personally have never seen such thick straight hair, almost everyone s I know who has hair like this heat styles it, they just don’t go overboard and style it daily. It’s definitely about genes, I have insanely thick long hair but it’s frizzy, if I don’t heat style it looks like a mess. Most people I know with super thick hair have similar problems, plus, blowouts add volume and makes it look even thicker.

What you’re talking about with Jennifer Aniston’s head shape is called high cranial top, if you look it up you’ll find a few other celebrities who have it like Jennie Kim. It’s basically how much height your head has ABOVE your hairline, which influences how much of the top of your head is visible from the front. If you look at me head on, you can obviously see where my part is but you can’t follow the line back on the top of my head, but on pictures of Jennifer or Jennie, you can follow their part toward the back of their even from head on. This makes a huge difference to how our hair looks, especially how voluminous it looks. And like so many other things, it’s 100% genetic and unchangeable :’)

My hair is thick and dense which most people see as “good hair genetics” but it’s naturally very frizzy, textured, and breakage prone. Hair care made a dramatic difference, and heat styling has saved me high maintenance routines during the week, but if I stopped the doing the things I do, it’ll go back to being the way it was. I know exactly what you mean by the 30% improvement. Having thick hair isn’t the end all be all. I’m grateful for it. But I’ve noticed the grass tends to be greener on the other side. Because fine hair to me, always looked more silky and low maintenance. Mine tends to look dull😅 I’m still trying to figure out how to work with it. I’m entering year 2 of my hair care journey. But I’ve definitely accepted that I’m just limited by my genetics.

Hey just leaving this comment here to offer a different perspective. I am black with extremely dry, fine, curly hair (breaks, tangles, and splits easily- when I didn't know how to take care of my hair, it would have "keyhole splits"); so haircare for me is all about compensating for my hair's genetic predisposition to be dry and frizzy so that it does not break or split very easily; while of course my hair isn't the same as yours; the general concepts will be the same and can be tweaked for anyone: Hair is a natural fiber to be preserved; (if you wash a silk garment with really strong detergent, hot water, and high tumble dry, it will not be the same and you can't "repair it"). -Shampoo: use a shampoo that doesn't strip the natural lipid layer on the hair shaft; sulfates aren't bad, (try pantene pro-v repair shampoo or dove bond strength shampoo) If they are gentle enough for my hair, I can guarantee it's gentle enough for yours -Conditioner: use a conditioner with silicones, (like dimethicone); it will form a protective barrier around each hair strand, preventing mechanical damage and splitting (Pantene gold moisture boost conditioner, or tresemme smooth and sleek); silicones wash out easily with shampoo -Leave in conditioner/detangler: to give slip and manageability while brushing; (Aphogee provitamin Leave in (put it in a spray bottle) or aussie miracle 7 detangler) -Oils: if your hair is stripped use jojoba oil (fatty acid composition is very similar to our hair's lipid layer) to replenish it; MCT oil (aka liquid coconut oil, same as reg coconut oil, just lighter and doesn't smell) will help repair the cuticle; if you're worried about your hair being greasy, use them as a pre-shampoo oil treatment; also oil can only be removed with surfactants like shampoo; so once you put it on it's not going anywhere. You don't need to keep applying oil every day if your hair doesn't need it. I know that everyone's hair is different; but if your argument is "genetics" then it doesn't explain why people who genetically have drier, curlier hair that is more prone to breakage are able to protect their strands. I hope these affordable recs are helpful to someone.

Thank God for this video. I am so tired of watching influencers with genetically thick hair promote these extensive hair routines with all these different products, promising your hair will look like theirs in a few months. Even in their before and afters, you can clearly tell that they used to fry their hair with bleach and heat and that’s why their “before” looks so damaged. Their “after” video is ALWAYS back to their natural hair colour, professional lighting and heat styling. Like babes its not the $49 shampoo you got at Sephora that has the exact same ingredients as Pantene, its in your genes. They get defensive when people *correctly* point this out in their comments because they know its true, and you can’t sell genetics, but you can sell products🙃

Not saying your hair won't be dry again but one thing you could do that really helped me out with the dryness issue was while your hair was still sorta damp and before you use leave in put in some pure hylauronic acid in your hair, it's one of the very few things that can be completely absorbed by hair and is capable of infusing moisture and not just preserving it!! It definately won't give you model hair or anything but just make it softer and less dry

I found your hair content around the age of 16, and so began my hair journey along with yours. It has been... quite a while now😅, and I sure wish to have seen a video like this back then. I learned a ton from you and loved every second, but I do wish for some other 16-year-old to stumble across this video first. Who ever needs to hear it, your hair is just fine. It's unique to you (which is lovely) but also the least interesting thing about you

Don’t beat yourself up about wishing you’d known sooner. You’ve gained valuable self-knowledge and have succeeded in finding something that helps, even by 30%. Sometimes we need to learn through experience. And now you have insight that can help others, too. Thanks for taking the time to remind us that reaching a place of self-acceptance is more important than reaching an impossible beauty ideal.

you are so real for this. I've been exactly like this, looking at pictures of waist long bleached thick hair, wondering why mine is never looking like that no matter what I try. And it's not just hair, the exact same thing happened to me when it comes to skin care, diet, body measurements etc. You get the gist. I'm now 23 and I believe it took me a good 10 years to come to the point where I finally realize fully that some things are unattainable for me and that's okay lol Just imagining the amount of time I spent researching these things during my teen and young adulthood years makes me a bit sad tho, it must've been whole months

I agree with the essence of the video about how most of it is genetics. Head shape is a factor of course, many stylists consider it especially when doing shorter cuts and the good ones at all times. Now without meaning to be "fake nice" your hair genetics isn't bad at all, it just isn't the best that exists or top 5% but... honestly your hair is fine. You have a reasonable amount of it and frankly you look great with or without the volume, maybe due to how pretty you are, something that not many people can pull off. Also there isn't one "good hair" gene, it's quite nuanced and it's multiple factors that cause it to be good. I have hair with some good and bad characteristics that can be attributed to genetics. According to stylists, it is on the thick side density-wise, however I never considered it thick because of how stick straight and fine it is. My hair tends to be smooth and shiny, but it also breaks when it's longer as it's on the fragile side too and I also suffered from compulsive splitting like you, so I have some frizz due to the breakage. The goal is, I think, to know your strengths and weaknesses and find the sweet spot between your "dream hair" and what your hair can physically do. I would never grow my hair to the waist, for example, because I'd have a tangly birds nest due to how fine it is, I would have like 5 single strands at maximum length and with zero volume near the head due to the weight (I had it at under the breast length many years ago an it looked awful). However, I have found that it looks good in a butterfly-ish cut at "armpit" length which is how I'm currently wearing it, as it still looks thick enough, it's still "long" and feminine and even gets compliments, even if it's not the best hair anyone has seen. And I've played enough with it to know that I actually look quite good in a bob when I'm tired of it haha

also an important thing to mention is, for women, puberty could ABSOLUTELY affect the way your hair develops. as a child i had thick, super long black straight but ever so slightly wavy hair. after i hit about 17-19yo, my hair drastically changed and became curly! and now its a medium-light brown. the texture of it changed a lot too, and i was never one to use a lot of heat or have a crappy diet or anything. so hormones definitely affect our hair texture as we age. a lot of my girl friends reported the same thing happening to them. either a change in color and texture or even curl pattern.

Full transparency I naturally have *very* good hair genetics and was told my whole life that I had good hair (It’s also like multi dimensional honey blonde which probably helps) your videos, helped my hair reach its full potential, and are the reason my hair looks as good as it does today! I now have. VERY long hair and use many of the tips you talked about in your previous videos to achieve the look I currently have! So thank you so much! Even if you feel it only did 30% for you it made mine look GREAT!

This is so true! And something I learned long ago. You cant change your genetics, you can still however style and wash your hair appropriately for your type so it at least looks as good as it can! Your hair looks great in the video (all your videos) and that is what matters. I had a similar journey and realized one cant turn your hair into someone else's, but its also more relaxing realizing this

I did the curly girl method during Covid and it always looked horrendous. It's actually how I found your channel. My hair is very wavy, fine but there's a lot of it and it's ultra frizzy and no matter how many natural methods I tried, I couldn't get it looking nice. I'm an ex hair model so had it bleached white every six weeks, my hair took a POUNDING but it still looked really good. But the best thing I've done for my hair (and this is so controversial) is to put down the straighteners and curlers and use a Dyson Airwrap with the Olaplex oil and styling cream instead. Is it as shiny and glossy as if I were to straighten it? No. Does it have volume and life and in the best condition it's ever been in? Yes. I'm not sure many people's hair can take as much bleach as mine as had but my hair can't really handle straighteners like others can. I can only put it down to genetics.

same with the bleach, I'm naturally blonde so it was easier to get it to platinum, but I've seen how my hair and other people's hair looks after bleaching and how much it can take and I'm pretty satisfied with mine, although it's definitely not as healthy as unprocessed hair, it looks a lot better than it should lol

What’s crazy is that I’ve been through the same stages of haircare by now too, but I’m probably quite a bit older than you are and tbh I didn’t even know what conditioner was when I was in my early twenties (and as a teenager I only used a shampoo srsly don’t know how my hair didn’t break off) and I just didn’t care and my hair was waist long at some point (though it was not voluminous or amazing). After the age of 36 the natural brands and minimal haircare was no longer working, my hair would not get shiny anymore so I started watching people who know hair science and started using all the regular products with sulfates and silicones and clarifying shampoos and now my hair is better than ever. I also have wavy hair that’s medium density so sometimes I wear it “curly” but if I blow dry it the regular way and don’t diffuse, it gets somewhat just straight looking. Idk just thought to share. I think I really get your struggle, but at this point I’m convinced that regular haircare products are better than the “all natural” products. Thank you for sharing your experience 😊

I think something that we should push more in the hair care industry, is historical haircare. Looking to the past to see how people cared for their hair prior to modern mainstream hair products (shampoo, conditioner, leave in). That really helped how my curly hair looks and feels.

i have curly hair (3b-3c) and i tried to go "natural" to see if it would benefit my hair. I stopped using all products and shampoo/conditioner for a few weeks. I washed my hair with water everyday. My hair just became greasy/flaky and it smelled bad. I will never do that again. It did not benefit my hair like i thought it would. So now i went back to my old routine of washing 1-2x a week EXCEPT now i don't really use product. My hair personally gets dried out and frizzy by curly hair products

It’s not only hair type, but hair density too! You can have similar hair to your inspiration, but you can’t change the amount of follicles you have. As a black woman, I was disappointed that my twists were so thin. If I got locs, they wouldn’t be full unless I add extensions to thicken it. Like you said, all genetics.

YES! styling also has such a big place in making hair look healthy. i always had pretty smooth, strong hair (fine, low porosity) but i fried the shit out of it these past few years(it is still very fried, permed and bleached and dyed multiple times T.T) but managed to figure out what works for me. i went down a similar spiral, down the whole "clean/natural" products and everything. turns out, hydration is a bit bullshit, according to one article the more actual water content in the hair, the more damaged it feels because of cuticle swelling and the fact that higher porosity damage and damaged hair holds onto more water - i started using silicones again, hair drying with heat again, protective styling it at night and oiling my lengths when dry and my hair looks and feels better, even though the actual quality of it is still terrible

oh man i remember when you first dropped the old video, im not a regular subscriber but it was still a pleasant surprise to see you in my rec again. im someone who has the good hair genetics. i actually have a double crown, so my hair grows in 2 different directions in 2 different places, and i have a small cowlick at the front of my hair. i also just have a LOT of hair, its quite fine and straight but the sheer amount of hair on my head gives it a ton of volume. i would get my hair bleached and dyed a lot and my stylist (bless her) was very thorough but that also meant taking around 2 hours to bleach my whole head. i will probably make several women in the comment section jealous by mentioning that im a guy, so im also walking around as a man with the pretty long shiny voluminous hair that so many women want and try so hard to achieve, and i just have it without having a super rigorous hair routine. i still try to take care of it but im also disabled so it can be difficult to do that sometimes, so i just use nice shampoo + conditioner and try not to brush it when wet. anyways i still think your hair is quite beautiful, it looks healthy and strong and shiny. it may not be the goal hair you wanted but it is still incredibly pretty. good hair genetics be damned, you take very good care of your hair and it shows.

I love that you talk about this. I think it's all the social media images and influencers that really affects how we see our hair. If you look back in the past, people's hair looked more normal. Now it's like we are constantly surrounded by perfect hair that is unattainable because there are so many images where people's hair is styled to perfection Or they're wearing extensions. Your hair is fearfully and wonderfully made just as it was created.❤️ I hope no one has ever made you feel insecure about it. It's beautiful!

My hair has been a struggle for me my whole life. I appreciate you telling the truth -- you can't beat genetics! Although I will say I grew my hair to my waist in the soft Pacific Northwest US water and it immediately crumbled when I moved to Florida. I think hard water is a bigger issue than people realize. Also, a big thing about volume with Pam Anderson is that bleaching 100% helps volume. When I've had my fine but dense hair bleached platinum it's felt like I have more hair than I know what to do with likely due to the damage it's causing!

Also the thing about celebrities is that they even do hair extensions to make their hair look thicker! I never compare myself with celebs because they are rich enough to even do plastic surgery and so they can spend as much money to even turn into a vampire look and not even look like they have aged in a day. My ancestry is Indian but I do have fine thin fragile hair but the texture is smooth. So whenever I feel irritated with my hair,i do apply coconut oil just to detangle my hair from time to time (wavy, curly girls understand the struggle of detangling)...but yeah, thats about it! It really is all genetics ...which is why we can learn to take care of our hair but also do it out of love and not out of expectation.❤

A couple of years ago my hair went from being strong, super wavy and shiny to thin as fuck, brittle and dull, and it affected my confidence sooooo much bc I saw all these girls online telling me that I could get my hair back just like they did but no matter how hard I tried, the only thing that really worked was waiting for my hair to grow back again. So now, 2 years later, it's looking way better and the only haircair I've stuck to has just been regular off brand shampoo, Pantene conditioner and being gentle while brushing it. Acceptance and "it is what it is" sometimes do get you places hahaha

I think this is a super important video and more people need to see it. Genetics are the biggest part of how your hair is going to look. I never had too much hair (I have very fine hair strands, i used to have more density when i was younger but its less now due to stress and medications that I've had to take) but my hair has always been naturally VERY shiny and VERY sturdy. Like I've been going to the same hairdresser since I was 5 years old (22 now) and she has never seen me with split ends. That's also why when I started bleaching and dying my hair (less now) it was always still healthy even if I didn't do much to take care of it. But at the same time my hair has a lot of downsides, like it doesn't hold a style too well even if I use A LOT of hairspray, and I can't enjoy a good style for more than a day because it gets oily too quickly no matter what shampoo I use (the only thing that has affected how oily or not my hair gets was consistent hair oiling, somehow it makes my hair stay clean longer don't know why). I feel I went on a tangent but yeah I love this video and I'm so grateful for you making videos like this which help encourage people to love their natural hair with all its strengths and downfalls. Thank you, you're amazing and your hair is beautiful even when it's not❤

I relate to you so much. As a caucasian with your same hair type, I used to watch asian hair bloggers with their shiny black, thick and coarse hair, and I somehow believed that I could achieve the same thing. Only years later did I also realize they had GENETICALLY different hair. It didn't help that so many of them exaggerate the effects of hair creams, oils, etc. and don't realize it's mostly a genetics game. Same thing goes for skincare. I have very dry, thin skin with small pores, and I always watched asian skincare bloggers wondering why my skin was so different from theirs. I especially wondered why my face looked so "discolored" compared to theirs. Only later did I realize that I simply have genetically thinner skin, and that "discoloration" is the literal inner workings underneath my skin lol (blood vessels and so on).

Thank you for being honest. I've got the exact same story as you, except I had thicker healthier hair when I was a child. When me hormones started to work and became a teenager, my hair texture completely changed. I went from having golden blond semi-thick pin straight hair to having dry, brittle, prone to breakage, ashy brown hair that curls inconsistently. I was so frustrated and for years I tried to do everything I could to change it. But nothing has worked. My hair is really thin, I lose a hefty amount every time I shower and it breaks off at my shoulders. I know it's just hair but it is such a big thing for me and I'd give a lot of things to have thick long hair naturally (I know I can get extensions but I'm hyper-sensitive so I doubt they'd stay on for long and also I can't afford them). I needed to hear this from someone else that also gets it. I can hopefully now finally lay my hair for rest and just kill any hope for having nice hair. It's just not in the cards for me.

Nah, it solved the problem for a day, and that’s it. I just accepted that beauty is artificial and I will just have to work to make my hair manageable. This is so relatable. 😅 Genetics are so major. My family has oily hair and skin and I’ve hated it my whole life, until I started getting into my 30’s and realized there are some benefits to it. Both of my parents have glowing skin in their 60’s and didn’t have wrinkles until their 50’s. My dad also has a full head of gorgeous white, shiny hair that I hope to have someday when my hair turns. I have tried so many things, from “hair training” to medication and experienced pregnancy and the only thing that changed it remotely has been pregnancy. So only the most extreme hormonal change a person can go through ever changed my hair lol. And it was temporary. Neither medication (which gave me horrible side effects) nor training or anything else ever worked. I am currently almost all done with my second pregnancy and enjoying my last days of reduced oiliness. When it comes back, I will just have to wash my hair almost every day and I will continue to embrace that. 😅 There is nothing I can do and that needs to be okay.

Thank you sm for this video. I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for so long, and even though I’ve wanted long beautiful hair my whole life, it makes me miserable. It’s both fine and dense and no matter how many treatments I put in it and how carefully I care for it it’s just kind of there. Not glossy, not pretty, just hangs around my face like dead weight. Heatless curls don’t look the way they do on Instagram on me. I spend 40 minutes daily meticulously brushing it only for it to be knotted again ten minutes later. No matter how much I baby it, it feels coarse, dry, poofy, and miserable. It’s gotten to the point where I cry sometimes when I’m detangling it because it’s too overwhelming and I look like Hagrid at the end of it all. I think I’m just going to chop it. This video feels like the sign I need to accept that the hair I want isn’t in my genetics. The extra inches aren’t worth how miserable I am with it, especially when it doesn’t even look good. Thanks for reminding me that it’s not my fault.

Taking care of your hair is good , some people just have different genetics and get thinning hair or frizzies , etc. I think the biggest take away is these pictures you admire of beautiful hair….. they are smoothed out and blow dried , or roller set ( heat or some can do it heatless) , or heat curled. They are not just air dried styles. If you think you’re going to have those looks by just air drying you’re in fantasy land . To get that glassy look most people need to smooth out their hair cuticle with a GOOD blow dry ( not a rough dry, but a smoothing blow dry that adds bounce in the right places)

I've never understood why it's controversial to admit that some people just cant achieve the thick and voluminous hair, because their hair is just literally built different, genetics impact it so much... as a Northern European that has a light, fine, fragile and quite thin hair (from the childhood) I can watch as many Indian or pin straight black Asian hair care tips and craps as I want but my hair will never have the same texture, strenght and fullness. It's the same as wanting my hair to go full 4C mode and wanting it to grow out of my head already curly - it literally makes zero sense because its just not possible lol

What you said is so true, I do a balayage two times a year, and my hair is still very thick and long, I've been doing this for years now. It's funny because we always want what we don't have, I remember being a kid and wanting my hair to be thinner, just like my friend's, I was so annoyed by how thick it was. One time I even shaved the nape of my hair so it would look thinner.

Hello🙋🏼‍♀️ I’m 46 years old and I feel this. So much. I’ve bought aaall the high end hair products and did all the ”right” things. My hair does simply not grow past shoulder length. Two weeks ago I bought the silk bonnet. It changed everything. (I’ve had the silk pillow case for over two years and it did nothing). Please try the silk bonnet!🙌🏼

I have very long and healthy hair and I blow dry it every day! I feel like the “heat styling is the root of every hair evil” is so misleading. It’s so much having to do with genetics

Thank you for this. It is very true it is not a "one size fits all" type of thing with hair care. Applying dense oils on my hair seems to make my hair fall out more rather than making it grow out thicker.

I DID have this beautiful, silky hair when I was younger, and I was always getting compliments, and it required no effort on my part, but once all the grays came in, I then experienced what it’s like having very dry, frizzy hair, and I also lost a lot after Covid and ended up with THIN, dry, frizzy hair. 😂 Thankfully, curling my hair makes it look nice and full again, and using heat definitely helps tame the frizz. I will say that adding animal proteins to my diet (after being plant based for over a decade) seems to be making it grow in healthier and smoother, but I probably can’t say for sure for another year or two, as I know it gets my dry the more it grows out. Great video!!! This will help a lot of people. ❤

YESS thank you for this video!! I have curly hair and I when i first started out the "curly hair routine" i realised how much products were used, they would literally drench their hair in mousse to just make it look like that at the end. I found it so exhausting, the constant tension you'd put from brush curling it to all the products. Because in real life, curly hair won't look like the "perfect" doll curls we'd see. It will absolutely have natural curls/waves, but absolute no frizz and the consistent shine the whole day? No, it's impossible for me.

I've had the exact same experience. My hair is also dry , brittle and frizzy. I've tried every method, no heat, natural DIY, curly girl etc. I've finally found a routine that works for my hair and makes me feel good about it. I use heat once a week, found some products that my hair seems to like and while I don't have super silky hair all of the time, I can achievement that look with some styling and products when I have the energy to actually do it lol. Thanks for being brutally honest. I followed so many haircare gurus that swore by this product or that method and promised you would have silky rapunzel like hair in no time.

Thank you. I needed to hear this. There is always more to learn and improvements can be made, but hair care can be so frustrating. 😅😊
