Hank & John: my wife (Canadian) and I (Egyptian) are parents of 10 children so as a "3rd party" we'll joyfully and gratefully vouch for both of you. For "strength and a refuge from the storm", we, on numerous FHEs and drives, have thrown in your tapes, CDs and DVDs and still do (our youngest is 9, so please keep'm coming). Greatly instructive and valuable discussion. God bless.

I tried to understand this part of Isaiah from other podcasts but I felt like I was even more lost in Isaiah! But yours was easy to understand, enjoyable and spiritual because I understood it and I could apply it to my life. Thank you all, thank you Dr Kerry!!

I love the vomit analogies. :) Also, when Isaiah 14 talks about the king of Babylon (and Satan) rotting in the grave, it says "the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee." Victor Ludlow introduced me to an incredible alternate translation of this passage: "Thou art laid on a bed of maggots, and covered with a blanket of worms." Gross!! But awesome.

Thanks for another great episode of the podcast! I particularly enjoyed the discussion on Isaiah 22, which inspired me to ponder further the reason Jerusalem fell to Babylon despite earlier fortifications (cf Captain Moroni and his fortifications), Shebna getting distracted with vain things of the world (cf Elder Cook's talk Rejoice! and "Saturday Morning Cartoons"), and Eliakim as a type of Christ particularly the part about him being a nail in the sure place. All this helped enrich the youth Sunday school class I teach and a devotional I had with my family on these topics. Keep up the great work!

I wanted to share my thoughts about Isaiah 22:25. I'm curious what others think of this. The thought that came to mind was essentially this could be talking about our covenants we make with God, particularly in temples. I think when we make those covenants, Jesus fastens that nail in symbolically. Vs 25 made me think it talking about people who break their covenants or don't want to make them. Because a person chose that, Jesus can unfastened the nail. But He doesn't do it against our agency. It's up to us. And it makes me think of D&C 82:10. If we keep our covenants, that nail stays fastened and the covenant remains enact. But if we don't keep our covenants, we lose God's promise and that nail is removed. It's never God choosing it, it's always our decision. We can keep building on it, we can break it and leave it broken, or we can repent if we break it and renew the covenant. What do you all think?

At the Western Wall on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem today, the Jews pound tiny nails into the cracks of the wall and secure messages to the wall. When we were there and asked about the nails we were told they were known as the “ nail in the sure place”. We were impressed by the phrase in reference to part of our temple ceremony, and your historical reference gives added meaning to the idea.

It can be distracting as it is a different way of spelling it. The Come Follow Me manual and Isaiah 29:14 spell it that way. "Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid."

Didn’t even notice this until you pointed it out. I’ve always spelled it with 2 L’s…but then again I’m from Canada where we talk and spell things a bit differently.😉 I’m happy to know “Marvellous” is correct either way.
