Wondering why Amalickiah didn't come down from the mountain? He was busy with his new wife (and other ill-gotten gains).

I’m having a very difficult time right now. I believe with all my heart in a loving God. And am not feeling that love in new policies in the church. Conflicted and heartbroken.

While listening to this podcast, my adult daughter was looking for something important and couldn’t find it. I gave her a few suggestions on where to search and she said she had looked there already. I asked her if she had prayed yet…. She said yes, but that He hadn’t answered her prayer. I suggested maybe she didn’t need to find the item at this moment or that she should pray again. She left the room and I started hoping her prayer would be heard and answered. I knew I needed to trust in Heavenly Father for whatever the outcome might be. 25 mins later, she came back to me with a huge smile on her face. She had found the item. What a spiritual experience for both of us! Thanks for the wonderful gift you give to us with this podcast.

Hello Brothers Hank and John. There's a 22 year story to this question but I'll simplify. My heart is broken, and confused, and quite concerned for my faith. How can I make sense as a member of the LDS faith when a prophet promises us something that doesn't come through? We faithfully had family home evening for more than 22 years and (I counted) more than 1000 family home evenings didn't keep my son in the gospel as the prophet promised. We also faithfully held weekly come follow me lessons, and the promised prophetic promise of our prophet today also didn't come true. I feel like the mothers of the other 1000 worriers that didn't make it. Absolutely broken. I wonder if Helaman promised the families of those worriers that their sons would be saved and they weren't. How did those families make sense of a failed promise? This is the first time my faith has been so deeply wounded. I have had many, and I mean many faith challenging trials in my life and made it through. This experience though, is deep. We did more than everything we could do and the promises failed. I never doubted in the Lord's promise through a prophet and it didn't happen. It didn't work out. Maybe I didn't read the fine print of the promise. The pain is unbearable. I understand how are testimonies grow when we see the results of living our covenants, and following the prophet because can see the fruit. But how can our testimony grow or be protected when our labors didn't work? It feels as if the words of the prophet weren't true. I wish to tell the prophet that from now on, when he makes a promise that he needs to say in parentheses "all the obedience and faith and love filled labor of years for some on this promise may not work, proceed knowing this at your own risk". I really hope you read this.

Bro Bytheway, you mentioned putting the emPHAsis on the wrong sylLAble. Then later on you mentioned moROnihah. According to the pronunciation guide in the back of the BoM, it is moroNIhah, with the emPHAsis on the third sylLAble, not the second.

As an adult, my son told me that he learned to turn to the Lord by watching me do so. I always left my door open when I prayed, and I pray out loud, so he knew that when there were problems, he had a source he could look to for answers. I'm glad I actually did something right as a parent! The power of our example is meaningful and significant. | One of my children had a problem and they were very unhappy. I so much wanted my son to have happiness, and then the Lord told me, "You want him to change. Love your unhappy boy the way that he is." Yes, the Lord has His own plans for our children. | Thanks Dr. Nelson, for your story. I had a hard life, too, and when I was 12-14, I was doing some really destructive things for myself. At 16, my friend taught me the gospel, and at 17 I was baptized. There are alot of us out here with a similar kind for story. How I thank the Lord for the blessings of the gospel! Wonderful episode..
