I started watching Isaiah, CJ, and Steve's videos 7~8 years ago and I didn't really think that it would ever be possible for me to dunk at that time. I was 24 and I thought that I was too old to start working on my vert. Also, I had no belief at all that I could actually increase my vert. One day, I thought to myself, "why not?" and I started working on my vert from that day and I went from barely touching rims to hitting my head on backboard.( I am 5' 10" ) Now I am 32 and I barely work out since I've got a lot else to do; however, even though I can't jump as high as I could 4~5 years ago, I can still dunk. Thank you Isaiah for always motivating me whether you intended or not lol. I'd never be able to dunk in my life without you!

@jinpark4003 Жыл бұрын
@@wayhuncho6599 not sure exactly what my starting vert was but it was probably a little below 30". After starting to train my vert, I gained a little above 10" in a year, and then 4"~5" next two years. You've probably seen so many different information since everyone's so much different. I started working on my vert with my roommate and we did exactly the same training and had the same food but his vert didn't increase dramatically and he gained around 6" in total.

As a one foot jumper I’ve heard that getting stronger can be detrimental especially in earlier stages due to the focus of the jumps possibly being less focused on the tendons. A big example of this is the fact that Olympic high jumpers who most likely have in the realm of 50 inch verts are all very skinny. What are your thoughts on getting stronger possibly being bad for one foot jumping specifically?
@ChrisJdunks Жыл бұрын
I’d like an answer to this too!

Look up a slo mo video of Stefan Holm jumping. His legs are yoked in his soleus and gastroc. It’s all about gaining sport specific muscle mass
@jinpark4003 Жыл бұрын
It is true that those Olympic athletes tend to focus more on plyometrics and jumping than on lifting weights but they still do tons of weight training compared to non-athletes. Getting stronger definitely makes you jump higher only if you maintain some level of body shape and speed especially for one foot jumping.

Nice video man, you should do another video on more specific trick shot dunks. For example, you can go more in depth for the 360s dunks, such as the 360 kamikaze (the best one), the 360 eastbay, 360 off the backboard, and the 360 under both. Stay on the grind man, never give up.

It’s amazing to me how some of the greatest basketball players of each country were never one of greatest athletic freaks of nature due to choosing to not push themselves in areas of jumping high to be a great dunker to add to their all around game. Dunking is hardest thing in basketball because all the hours of training to be great scoring and shooting threes it’s more work dunking with more weight room training than the average basketball player and for those that choose to go the route of a dunker are biggest basketball fanatics on history

This might be a dumb question but does increasing vertical to dunk levels help you with getting off your shot in a game, too? I know it's different leg mechanics being leveraged when casually jumping when shooting vs. all-out jumping for a dunk but wondering if it does passively add 1-2 inches to your jump shot and make you that much harder to guard as well? Could be interesting.

Hey Isaiah, I havent' watched all your videos, but i remember a few years ago you just made 40" or was low 40". My question is could you combine all your notes to speed the process up, maybe a yearly plan with a few gaps for recovery? I don't know if you already did that video, but that could be useful for your students. Some of the things you did obviously worked better than others and some other things used alot of time for very little gain.
@Leaping_Leprechaun_ Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard many people including you recommending that athletes should not only lift heavy but also lighter with a focus on speed. There is an argument going around that I first heard from Daniel Back that says lifting weights will always be way slower than running or jumping and that it is a strength stimulus so going lighter will just simply cause a less optimal strength stimulus even if you are moving the weight faster. Thoughts?

Hey man I have a question. If i workout 3 times a week for my vertical jump and do 1 pure maximal force strength exercise per session apart from "plyometrics" and "rate of force development" exercises, I usually choose the deep squat because I feel like is strengthening my lower body better then any other pure strenght exercises, but I'm not sure if I should switch the exercises every session for like a heavy split squat or deadlift which don't feel like is working as good as the deep squat, what should I do?

Typically when periodizing you would have a 3-5 week plan (assuming your training for jumping/sprinting) during which you would slowly increase your volume or intensity slowly gaining fatigue and ability then you deload to wash out the fatigue and be left with your new ability and rinse and repeat.
