My father, Arthur Altman, composed the music. Though he lived 20 years longer than when this was recorded in 1974, I know that neither of us heard this version until I discovered it a few days ago. Let me speak for him and say he would have loved it. The song first appeared in the early 1930's. This rendition sounds like it was written yesterday. Play Fiddle Play had special meaning for him. He started musical life as a violinist and the song was his first big hit.

Thank you, Dick! Did your dad play "Oyfn Pripetshik"? Mine did :)
Thank you for uploading this! This is my most favorite Japanese Jazz tune, and could be one of the best of even all world Jazz tunes! I don't know why, but there are many nice Jazz albums released around 1973-1974 around the world - it looks like "come back of Hard Bop of 1950's!. It's also very nice to hear the guitar of Kazumi Wanatabe at his early carrier, for me, it's nicer than his famous "fusion" play.

From Wikipedia, song was written at age 20: "Jack Lawrence (born Jacob Louis Schwartz, April 7, 1912 - March 16, 2009) was an American songwriter. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975."
