Passed this today after doing the online training and getting a 92% on the pre-test. I thought it was quite a bit harder than the pre-test questions so I definitely recommend studying more than just the free online course.

the timing of this is rad!! seriously! i'm actually almost finished with the self-paced course! before signing up, i did learn networking fundamentals, which in turn was reinforced in isc2's networking sections, thus taking a load off my shoulders. currently, as i prep for the cc exam, i've been pairing it alongside security+ exam objectives, anki cybersecurity flashcards, and active recall via practice tests for additional context. 💜

I’m an IT professional with 8 years experience and have the CompTIA A+ and Server+ certs. I finished the self paced course and just about done going through the LinkedIn Learning course by Mike Chappel. I’m scheduled to take the exam on Thursday. From what I’m hearing it seems the self paced course alone may not be enough. Hence why I’m doing the LinkedIn learning vids as well. Also heard they have questions pertaining to the OSI model on the exam so look out for that. Hopeful to pass this exam, as I took advantage of the free value. 😅

I took and passed this exam last Dec. From my experience, the online training that the ISC2 provides is not enough. I would also read through the Security+ books as well. I have been a Cyber Tech Writer for the last 10 years, and this exam was harder than hell. It was one of the hardest I ever took. Don't underestimate because it a entry level cert. My best advice is to watch all the YT videos you can.

100% agree with this. I went through the course content and took the exam and felt like I wouldn't of passed if I hadn't been studying Sec+. I've also heard from a coworker that the new Sec+ is supposed to be styled similar to the ISC2 CC

I’m one of those transition people from mil to cyber. My boot camp starts this Tuesday. I’m going to sign up for this as well and try to earn the cert as well as the certs the bootcamp prepares for. A lot of DoD contract/federal positions call for these specific certs as requirements of employment. I’m excited

I've heard so much blowback concerning this certification. I passed in June of this year. But I have a help desk background and it's still hard to get into cyber security with that cert combined with my IT background. Some say it's gate keeping. I don't know. I do know that I've been working on my SSCP certification, Microsoft's SC-200, CCNA, and NSE4. By the time I get one of those certs, if I can't land a gig, I'll be floored. I've heard there are people who don't even have any certification working in cyber security however, their company is willing to pay for their certifications.

Similar in education. Sec+ has more market penetration for hiring. None of them alone will get you hired. They prepare you to be able to learn more about the industry and whatever niche you're going for. Some Job reqs may have one or more of them on requirements, cuz HR just uses it as a qualifier.

The information covered in these money making certification programs is also available to threat agents. So they know what you know. And this is why security threats will always get more frequent and more costly for the impacted company.

You can't take the exam online? I used Pearson Vue to take CompTIA certs from home, is this cert not available that way?

I dont know. Maybe this is something they did for pandemic and now have it post pandemic. I didnt see any indication there was an at-home option, but certainly worth looking into. ISC2 basically outsources the whole testing/exam aspect to Pearson Vue so if Pearson Vue allows it for some , maybe for all...IDK.

I do not know the referral bit. Sometimes an active cert holder needs to “vouch” for you but I don’t know if that’s what this is

I've had my free CC exam sitting in my bookmarks for a few months, I'm on the fence if I should take it since I already have my Sec+ and SC-900

I dont think it will help teach you anything you dont know, and the cert itself is unlikely to increase market value if you already have Sec+. Sec+ has a dominant position in market, but ISC2 is trying (it appears) to usurp that with CC.

CISSP is good, CCSP is good, SSCP is very good for beginner (books are good), CGRC is good, but no one cares about it, as it is a new one, rebranding of CAP, CSSLP is also a cert that no one cares about, good to get knowledge, concentrations are simply dead in terms of search. II would leave CC and jump to SSCP directly, or focus on other certs and materials to get knowledge, like RHCSA or CCNA.

Good advice. Also ISC2 is officially killing the HCISPP (i have it and they notified me), so healthcare is dead. Also the concentrations for CISSP lol. wow, forgot about those and felt like they never ever tried to push them or make them valuable in market.

ejpt would only help you with offsec/pentest jobs, but yes it would pair (take cc first),. Note its not a golden ticket having these 2 certs and getting an entry level job.

best wishes on the exam. I'm active ISC2 so couldnt go through the entire process of taking and knowing that. I was going to take it like I said in the video, but closest Pearson Vue testing center is 45 minutes away. 😭. I 'believe' you receive an email from ISC2 upon successful passing of CC with instructions on how to 'activate' your membership for $50. you definitely wouldnt have to do it at the testing center or immediately after the test.

Correct! Before the payment comes up you have to submit your application which has to be done within nine months of your exam date. Then they email you and let you know in order to validate your certification you have to pay the $50 annual membership fee. To my knowledge there is not a time limit on how soon you have to pay though.

Passed the pretest in December and I'm kinda scared to take the Exam. I didn't schedule it yet because of how shaky I was with the pretest. Although I did pass with a 90%. I don't know what to do...I guess I can start by watching KZbin videos and try to get as much of free study material as I can.

Yeah. That’s how they do it. It’s $50 to be a member and they only grant certs to members basically, but you can get the knowledge without paying.

IDK. Someone in comments above mentioned at home testing. I havent taken a cert exam since pre-pandemic, so the at home exam testing is new to me. I would assume the web cam would have to be on and strict rules to have integrity over folks cheating.
