Get all air out before plugging in ...I worked an Auto parts store that someone kept returning engine heaters in fact 4 of them. We doubled checked the part and asked what he did he said hooked it up and then plugged it in right away....He add then it made a bzzzzzzzzzzzz noise and smelled like it burned out... He was told that the instructions specified to make sure all air was out...We gave him another one and he did it and added it works great now. The parts store had to eat the cost of the 4 other ones he burned out but, this was 40 yrs ago, The independent franchise auto parts store was known for taking care of the customers.

when I installed mine there was a sticker over the plug saying don't plug it in until you run water through the unit.

One thing about Mikey Pipes is if you don't read the effing manual while you're riding in his truck on the way back with the new unit, he's gonna be disappointed, especially if you say you've installed it before and then you literally do the one thing you're not supposed to do... Any type of water heating equipment needs to be filled and purged ALL THE WAY before even putting power to the unit, UNLESS the unit is built in with a de air feature upon startup like the NTI high efficiency boilers. Always read the manual. That's what I would do while I rode with my old boss. We would be installing a boiler the following morning and I would download the manual on my phone and read that thing every time I would get in the van and I would ask questions and my boss LOVED IT! He loved it so much. "omg......I found one that actually cares to learn." You do that as an apprentice and you will go far. Keep learning. Never stop learning. Hell I'm reading a pneumatics book now. It's old technology but in my area pneumatics are still prevalent in old churches and schools. And we have a lot of those accounts.
