Get to know a bit about Zimbabwean Heritage and it's ancient built environment, in this short • Zimbabwe's Independenc...
This was the first national anthem of the Republic of Zimbabwe (1980-1994). It was derived from Enoch Mankayi Sontonga's original Xhosa composition 'Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika' (currently the national anthem of South Africa 🇿🇦). Ishe Komborera Afrika was succeeded by 'Simudzai Mureza Wedu weZimbabwe/Kalibusiswe iLizwe leZimbabwe' (oh lift up the banner, the flag of Zimbabwe 🇿🇼). Other Countries which include Zambia 🇿🇲 and the United Republic of Tanzania (Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania 🇹🇿) use the same music in their national anthems, but with different lyrics and arrangements.
This music was performed by a choir and a band during the 50th anniversary of the Male Voice Choir, in Harare, in 1991.
