I completely understand and respect the love they have for the original Japanese dub BUT for some reason kienzan being used so much is kinda off to me idk it's in English and kinda comes off weebish when the only thing they say in Japanese sometimes is some of the moves. I know destructo disk might seem silly in comparison but it's all silly power ranger esk yelling names of attacks anyway. It's also the most confusing and for some reason it almost feels like the writer had a chip on his shoulder about the English version of the names or something. It's like there's plenty you could be weeb about and high brow when it comes to English translation so why be such a stickler about THAT one when it's so iconic as it's English name.

I think it all usually works out, there are some great inside baseball jokes about these details, like Piccolo struggling to pronounce his own move, how to spell Freeza/Freiza's name, Androids vs. Cyborgs, etc. It is often pretty funny. yeah, since they're made to hide power they can keep them for as long as they want to, and there's actually a reason to why every single Arcosian in the series uses a certain form, Freeza uses the weakest bc he likes to see despair in his enemies faces when they think they have finally surpassed Freeza's immense power level, only to find out it was a fraction of his power(like what happened to Vegeta); Cooler's always on his final form bc the movie directions wanted to make him 'the opposite of Freeza', he doesn't wait for his henchmen to do all his work, he likes to do it himself, he barely has henchmen as he likes to only have the best around him, he's always using 100% of his power, no "starting slow" bs, and thanks to this he was able to develop yet another form stronger than 100%, which he doesn't hesitate instatly to use the moment someone survives more than 3 seconds of battle with him; King Cold is always on his second form bc it's the tallest one, he seems to enjoy feeling bigger than everyone else, plus it makes him taller than his 2 children, since both of them are always using the 2 smallest forms they got. TD;LR: Freeza's the only important arcosian who chooses forms based on power, Cooler likes the most efficient one and King Cold likes the big one

although its a meme in the community and thus why abridged points it out but the only reason akira toriyama stopped using power levels was because #1 people can surpress their power and #2 it kept revealing who would win the fight and ruins some suspense so he just dropped them. So TECHNICALLY no....power levels are not bs they are just no longer used
@marvelsandals42282 жыл бұрын
The whole point of power levels as a concept originally was that the villains would place too much confidence in their technology (the scouters) to determine a person's limits/destiny. The Saiyan class system was based on scanning babies at birth & classifying them according to their power level, after all. Time & time again, the villains were shocked when a "weak" fighter was able to defy their expectations & hurt an opponent who was "stronger" according to the scouter. On the other hand, the heroes don't rely on technology, but rather sense the mystical energy around them (like Jedi) & trust in their instincts. Even Vegeta abandons his scouter & learns how to sense energy once he realizes it was actually a crutch that held him back. I think the whole lesson to be learned is don't accept the labels placed on you by others & instead try to defy people's expectations & surpass your limits. Goku is the shining example of this, being born with a power level of 3 (or something silly), yet by pursuing growth & applying himself, he continued to surpass his limits over & over.
@richardsaid9732 жыл бұрын
@@marvelsandals4228 Pretty much....you could also say that characters can suppress their energy lol but that explanation fits as well. Also that doesn’t counter the point that scouters actually just measure your power level output. Never once did it mention anything about someones potential. So, although your right about it being narratively useful for having enemies underestimate the heroes and goku’s potential (even with a power level of 5) it doesn’t debunk the fact that those readings were true because PL measures output not potential or hidden power that has clearly not been outputted yet.

1:01 "As soon as the scanners became irrelevant"? Bro had you watched Dragon Ball before playing Kakorot or before DBZ, you would realize something. This is because scanners were only relevant for one arc that wasn't even the beginning of the entire story, like manga-wise DBZ and OG was in the same manga so... it's like Scouters were introduced in one arc(i think in the middle in the manga) just to be useless in the next arc.

@@marvelsandals4228 Bro that's just the in-universe thing. Bro there's also a thing known as bad writing and this is an example of that.

2nd forms my favorite, 3rd form is least. However close second to first is 100% fourth form (Really buff form).

The whole fade away thing was a write in for TFS in case nobody liked the joke and they could just get rid of it. But because the joke was popular, Nail sticks around, which I honestly prefer.

Kienzan is discructo disc(where he cut off frieza tail with) because dbz got lot of critic for everyone just waiting and let opponent power up, never use things like kienzan what basicly would cut them in half
