Ishod Wair's Weird Skateboard Setup Hack is supposedly meant to help you lock into grinds. Ishod Wair's Weird Skateboard Setup Hack is putting three washers inside each wheel. Ishod Wair said on the Nine Club he does this weird skateboard setup hack to widen the truck size. After trying this Ishod Wair's Weird Skateboard setup hack I noticed it really helped give me more stability rolling up to and on top of the rail. After testing it I'm going to keep using Ishod Wair's Weird Skateboard Setup Hack indefinitely.

I’ve been running 3 washers on the inside forever but my reasoning is a little different. The axle nut sits flush with the end of the axle so you never get stuck with mangled threads. As long as you use freshie axle nuts when you change wheels the chance of a nut coming loose and backing off is very low.

Trie 149 trucks versus 148 trucks on a 8.25 ? Would like to see your experience for alround feel, especially flips and grinds. Personally i switch sometimes but more out of boredom i like change in feel sometimes it's interesting, 149's feel a bit more comfortable on 8.25 for me especially in skateparks and ramps but keep it 148 mostly. Some friends skate only 149 because of grinds on ledges e.t.c. on their 8.25's.

Dude, me and my friends did this back in the 90's and I started doing it when I restarted skating in 2010. I got like a fat pack of slim washers a long time ago, lol. I did this to push the wheels out, keep the nut flush and think wide and low like a corvette for speed, especially now for bowl/park/transition skating. I used 149 indys on a 9inch board like this and I never had a complaint, then I got the 159's for my new 9. But I guess its good to spread the info, not everyone would think of doing this.

Another good hack for park and tranny speed is removing the dust caps from the bearings. I’ve had bones reds (black I think) for years and they’ve never had a dirt issue and spin for days STILL. Really helped my speed. Maybe everyone knows that one but hey, never know. ✌🏼

@@rakkup7572 I heard of that but never tried it. Back in the 90's we used the cheap german bearings with non removable metal shield, when they died we went to the hardware store and got more for cheaper than the skateshop! Personally my speed hack is bones ceramic bearings! I got the non-china set for $80 back in 2012, still got them today and these things fly! And get faster after each cleaning! Spins for a whole week! Compared to ceramics, steel bearings feel gritty to me, these things make the ride feel like its on ice! But one day I'll try the bronson raw and ride some reds without shields to see how it goes.

Have you rode 149 Thunders with a 8.5 deck? Just wondering if you have, and if so, why you prefer the 151 over the 149s? I have an 8.5 Real Zion twin tail with Thunder 149's and it's very new to me, as I am to skating.. But I rode Indy 144's with 8.38's before stepping up, and in comparison, the Indy+8.38 setup hangs over the wheels more, and Im debating whether I like the less amount of overhang with my 8.5+149s more or not. I do 2 inside 1 outside, and I also use a bearing spacer inside the wheel, it just makes the wheels feel more solid/stable to me. Having the wheels farther apart makes the board feel more stable rolling, but it also should make your trucks feel slightly looser because you’re increasing the leverage you get over the edge of the board.

If you don't use spacers and washers the bearings don't operate properly. The inner races just end up spinning on the axle. The spacers also prevent deflection when the urethane deforms.

i’m lost. just ride bigger trucks? seems like a hack to make your trucks feel 2 millimeters wider when you can just get bigger trucks. like they make different sizes. if anyone is concerned about axle threads sticking out just properly put speed washers on both sides of the wheel. nut will cover threads and that’s what the washers are made for, to seat the bearing for optimal spinning. so they’ll spin good and last long.

Having your truck stick out past the edge of your board will result in a way less stable setup for grinds though. People generally don't like it when I point it out, but the balance is spot on when your trucks / wheels line up flush with the edge of the board. Assuming you don't skate abnormally wide wheels, it's going to have the best of all worlds.

Washers help you tune in the ratio between board width and where your wheels contact the ground, so the widths of your deck, trucks, and wheels all factor into the equation. We all experience waves of mental illness wherein we believe there is a perfect setup, a Personal Golden Ratio that, when discovered, will unlock higher levels of potential. We call it "The Madness". The path back to sanity is to just settle on something that feels good enough, and stop tinkering with the setup long enough to actually get comfortable with it. The struggle is real. Come on man you’re better than placebo 😂 it’s like 2mm difference, and like others said, it’s to push the wheel out closer to the end of the axel, allowing the wheel to be further outward when compromising with a slightly smaller set of trucks on a slightly oversized board. The small difference that is needed, rather than buying too big of trucks. Also, skateboarding isn’t a very good “constant” to use scientifically. There’s so many confounding variables. You might’ve just been more warmed up at the end of your session by the time you got around to this “hack”. I think we can all agree we do a trick better, the more warmed up we are, and the more we repeat it. To truly prove this, we would need to somehow measure several skateboarders’ success rate, after they are already subjectively warmed up. There’s just too many variables to consider, especially when you’re trying to say that an extra 2.5mm at the most is truly doing anything else mechanically. In the grand scheme of things, it’s almost a negligible difference in relationship to a better pinch. If it were giving an extra .75cm or more movement for greater pinch, I’d reconsider, but two to three washers at this width ain’t it. Think about it.
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 2 жыл бұрын
As much as I want to believe the washers matter, I can't see how it would. It's not significantly wider, not to mention how you could simply ride a skinnier wheel and achieve the same thing. And plenty of larger wheels would lock in better in a more significant way, than widening a truck ever could. Having said that, if it works for him, more power to him. But I do think we see a lot of nonsense level hacks. There are also trucks out there that are naturally a tiny bit wider. Perhaps go with those instead. I ride 8.5" Tensor trucks on a 9.1" deck on one of my setups and with wide wheels they line up perfectly flush again to such an extent you can do rail stand freestyle tricks on it. Plenty of such setup tricks would only work with just the right wheel and truck combo. So, in other words, I understand how there can be hack that work. But this doesn't seem one of them.

Why do you not tighten your wheels all the way?! You said it yourself, the wheels slipping side top side, effect your skating negatively.

You should learn cross lock bro
@yes11889
@yes11889 2 жыл бұрын
Also lock in really has nothing to do with washers it comes down to wheel diameter and truck and board size not washers which are only for speed and less friction when rolling there so small because of this factor if your slapping in 3 and than 4th on the end I could only imagine how terrible that would be feel if you actually used spacers like everyone should but I guess reds have literally made skaters such imbecile that we think not using them is the correct thing to do

@yes11889

My questions is has either you or ishod use spacers because this would fix your problems of lock in I mean after you saying thag you run your bolt on the end kinda makes me think you don't I mean I can't believe a pro skater would be so stupid to not run spacers and makes up for it with this dumb solution because you won't have this problem if you do

Fake dunks are 159? 🤮 as skaters, we should come together and make some other random ass shoe popular. That way, the attention will go away from dunks and we can get them at a reasonable price again. Also my dumb ass doesn't use washers. Not because I don't want to, It's just that I always loose them. 😋

Lol bro you're preaching to a brick wall. Getting skaters to skate something other than dunks is like trying to talk someone out of using social media, ain't gonna happen. At this point I feel like the vast majority of people that skate dunks (mainly younger / newer skaters) skate them for status but hide behind the excuse of they skate better in them. I saw a kid at our DIY park with some jordan 1s fresh out of the box, he could barely Ollie on to the curb but the confidence in face you'd swear he thought he'd been skating 10+ years.

I was watching GX1000's"Right here for Pablo" and I ended watching this. I'm tired of these boring bored people trying to teach us shit. I even read the description. The man probably does not wear boxers. It's not mentioned. I'm tired. A bit more of "Right here for Pablo" to forget this and I go back to skate. Ration cameras !
