Merci pour cette découverte. Les informations historiques sur les compositeurs et les peintres sont précieuses pour nous français. C'est un très beau site. Bravo !👏

An excellent concert. Irony, for nation states. The French anthem "La Marseillaise" was "created" by an Italian, Giovanni Battista Viotti - "Tema e variazioni in do maggiore" in 1781. Similar to Giovanni Paisiello 1787 "Iddio conservi il Re" - Anthems Austria-Hungary (1867-1918) J.Hayd 1797. "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser".

As it is said here, in the manner of Viotti in the virtuoso treatment of the violin parts. The long 1st movement is also Viotti-like.

A surprise! I had heard or read his name in the history of the music (he played the violin with a colleague called ....Cherubini; the great Cherubini played the viola in the Opera orchestra) but never heard his composition. This is a worthy violin concert!! The orchestral texture is better than in Viotti's concerts. Viotti has more passion, he foresees the romanticism but Berthaume has very very charming melodic ideas

Wow, totally unknown to me although I am a good sleuth 😅 but never at your level 😊 Yes, Viotti caliber, this Concertante. Cannot judge on either performance at playing violin as time machine has not yet been manufactured.😊

Pau, where do you get these 30 (and 40, and more) year old recordings? I suppose that they're on the web somewhere, or else you have 5000 or so vinyl records at home.

This one is available on Spotify and iTunes. But I am buying LP on Discogs website. But certainly my collection is HUGE, most of them classified and digitalized.

Was this Symphony Concerto originally two-movement or did the third movement simply not survive? Although the music of the minuet is quite final in nature, it is suitable to complete the cycle. The fate of this musician was such that he died in our town, a few months after his arrival. Perhaps the St. Petersburg climate is to blame? The Wikipedia article on Bertom does not name any of his compositions after 1787 (two Concerto Symphonies, Op. 6 and three sonatas for harpsichord or pianoforte with violin accompaniment, Op. 7); Apparently, Bertom left the composing field, devoting himself entirely to performing arts and teaching?

Yes originally written in two movements. It was quite common regarding symphonies concertantes.
