The very essence of Islam is Tawhid (Oneness). Here we dive into Islam and Non-duality to see that Tawhid is to be recognised in our waking reality rather than occupied as just a belief.

"I am indeed near. I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me" (Surah Al-baqarah 1:186) Growing up in a Muslim household, it's actually Islam that led me to my spiritual journey. It triggered a question. While fasting during ramadan (equals clarity of the mind) This 👆 verse actually made me realise that we were looking for Allah at the wrong place. Outside of ourselves. Not a lot of people talk about this. Thanks for putting this out there. 🙏🏼

My fundamentalist Christian faith fell away from me at age 17 after much study, devotion, and prayer. I thought I was going to hell for a while but I couldn't stop questioning and desiring truth. This was the first step on my journey to the mystical oneness. I believe all serve the one whether they know it or not. And all deities are symbols of the one infinite creator. All roads lead to the beloved.

I used to be a fundamentalist salafist muslim, but then I tried to read and study the Quran for myself, and went on walks contemplating on it... and my whole worldview changed... my fundamentalist, hadithist faith fell at 18.. and I became a quran centric submitter to God, who believed in recognised Traditional Perennialism and the "Transcendent unity of religions"

🙏 Thank you. I have watched 2 of your videos so far and was delighted to find this one. I lived in London for 5 years, until recently. Despite being in an area with a population mainly of Asians and North Africans, the opportunity to learn about Islam did not arise. Islam has been one religion that I didn't know how to approach? Non-duality has been the path for me, for a few years. Each week another onion layer peels away. What a blessing to hear this video today. Your message about the non-duality teachings from your background and culture is so valuable. Please continue. Do you have mantras? I heard you quote passages but they were said quickly. If you do have mantras you could share, that express non-duality, from the Koran, I would be grateful. Words have such power and I have been learning different mantras in different languages. I folded back to Christianity last year and have been learning mantras in Greek and Hebrew and other Orthodox languages. (Sanskrit mantras I knew from the 1990s and are a blessing to recite). The psalms sung in the languages of the Middle East deeply touch me. I feel these vibrations are joining the scattered reality (maya) we are in, to become once again "whole". Our perception of separation is just a perception. As a child, living in a house of engineers in electronics, the discussions on how we are all made of waves and electrons etc, and then in my religious school singing about God being "omni present, omni potent and omni science " lead to a cognitive dissonance that never left until I found the teachings of Ramana Maharshi. How could we be separate if we are energy fields? Eloquent humans such as yourself, are using your voices for all of us to hear, so we can go home to God. As Jesus said: "The kingdom of heaven is within" And "he who sees me, sees my father" And "I am within you". He tried over and over to express non-duality. Maybe the world needed the Internet and other scientific discoveries for a global preparation so there will be a Mass awakening? The teachings on non-duality on YT have become exponential. So, may you be blessed to continue your channel and spark in us listeners the match that will grow our inner flames of divinity. 🙏 🌼

Thank you for sharing this. I’m glad that my videos inspire you on your spiritual path. Non-duality or Oneness is prevalent in most religions and traditions. Islam is full of anecdotes and pointings no matter where you read about it. In terms of mantras, the closest thing I could think of would be Thikr/Zikr, which translates to ‘remembrance’. And it is the remembrance of God/Allah. If you search this on KZbin you’ll be able to find many of such mantra like recitations that allow you to settle in a more meditative state. Once again thank you for sharing this, you are very much appreciated ❤️🙏🏻

I found it so funny that the most important concept in Islam is Tawhid. Oneness, Oneness, Oneness, repeatedly, yet almost no one reflects on 'why' Oneness might be so important. It's just something we were taught to memorise, yet, the most profound wisdom of Islam is in the exploration of Oneness.

Salam Hassan, I have watched some of your videos and was delighted to find this one. it's been 3 years since I've been on the path of non-duality that I discovered in youtube thanks to mooji baba (you must surely know him), my life has undergone a great transformation, everything seems to me more secondary and lighter than before it is a Truth that takes root more and more in me alhamdulilah. My great confusion now is this relationship of non-duality with Islam. I come from a Muslim family and I can't let go of Islam for fear of falling into shirk. Sometimes to comfort myself I tell myself that the shift is the association of allah with something else and non-duality is quite the remedy for association. But when i want to read quran i can't pass by Surat of 3adab without being scared or confused about the day of judgment and hissab…if really all is one and there is only allah how all it can exist and for whom? and why do we pray? why is it necessary?.. I want to reconcile Islam and not duality please enlighten me, i want to die in peace in no more questions. thank you

If there is one factor that is critical for someone to see this oneness, non-duality or wahdat alwujud, it's the purity of the heart. The peace, the stillness, the silence of the mind, the heart. Patanjali in the first stanza of his yoga sutras says that once the mind is stilled, its true nature will reveal itself. This is a perennial truth regardless of the outer religion. When the heart is pure, the mind is stilled, the person, the ego, actually dies, completely destroyed. He is totally surrendered that there is no one left, the one who surrenders is gone. When one truly answers the question who am I really, he will automatically answer 2 other questions. Who God is. What Reality is.

How, then, does Islam, from a non-dual perspective, get from the Oneness of God to the creation, without falling into Neo-platonism? Adi Shankaracharya and Advaita has a response to this in terms of the ‘energy’ (Maya) of the ‘akarta’ (non-dual, actionless being). I’m genuinely interested, not critical. Fantastic that you are looking at Islam from an inner p.o.v.
@TheSpiritualWalks

That’s a very interesting question. With my limited knowledge about Islam on the matter I believe it would be similar. Here is an example of a verse in the Quran: “He is the One Who has originated the heavens and the earth, and when He wills to (originate) a thing, He only says to it: 'Be', and it becomes.” Even though it may be interpreted that there was some sort of ‘action’ involved from a ‘Him’ for communicative purposes. The spontaneity of ‘Be’ and it ‘is’ does not seem to indicate that this was done under a particular timeframe. But ultimately I must confess, it’s not an area I have done enough reading on.

@@TheSpiritualWalks Yes, that's interesting because (like in Genesis) it shows that God creates without instruments or any material, so He is not an efficient or material cause and therefore not caught in Karma. Religions are objects given to understand, experience is way to turn understanding into reality. And when you walk on path to realize you'll see religion is not object but very subject you the one non dual reality. All great enlightened beings across planet from India to greece, iran to Morocco made it clear oneness is reality and as sufi master rightfully interpreted La illaha ill allah means there's nothing but Allah❤.

"The meaning of Tawhid..." YES! I so think this is correct. One could talk about "The Tawhidian World-View" which is Islam's articulation of what today is being called "non-duality". "Qul: Hua Allahu Ahad" indeed! The big mistake in Muslim theology was the "closing the doors to ijtihad" it seems to me. One of my favorite hadith in the lines of the person tossing the garbage in front of Muhammad's house is when they are in Medina, and some people come from the desert and urinate in the mosque. The Companions want to beat them, at least. Muhammad says "Nah... pour some water on the spot" and engages them... for The One. Excellent! That's when you really say "Al-hamduli 'Llah!"

It is special to see that you were able to see the truth and the essence via Islam, rather than being distracted by the literal interpretations/systematic beliefs which is extremely common with 'religious' people. The main challenge I observe with muslims (or followers of abrahamic faiths) is they create the separation between themselves and God and it blinds them completely to what is (which is the oneness or truth). This is a tragedy because it robs them of their own potential.

According to non-duality how can a person commit shirk then? What even is shirk by this understanding? Also how do you understand these verses, Also this perennialist take you shared in the video wasn't echoed by the prophets. The prophets didn't go to their people and tell them to keep following what their ancestors were following and that "they are sure that whatever their ancestors were following will eventually and surely lead them to oneness/non-duality/tawheed." They called them away from shirk to tawheed and the consequences were often confrontational. Also concerning the Quranic verse you mentioned isn't that in reference to salah and qibla? Lastly, salah literally losses all meaning if god is non-dual. Why make sujud to Allah? Again I am having trouble understanding this and that's why I am asking questions. This confuses the entire call of Islam. It also appears to be as if you are super imposing something which isn't from islam upon islam.
@TheSpiritualWalks
@TheSpiritualWalks Жыл бұрын
Thank you for such interesting questions. Your input is very much appreciated my friend. If reality is solely defined by your accumulations of the ego (ideas, thoughts, memories, opinions, beliefs and material), then one can, and will commit shirk (become ignorant/become trapped/defy god/defy truth). As the focus on the ego isolates one’s perspective on it, blurring out and distorting reality for what it is. This can actually be seen in the verses you shared: ‎يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ أَنتُمُ ٱلۡفُقَرَآءُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلۡغَنِيُّ ٱلۡحَمِيدُ (O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allah, but Allah is Rich, Worthy of all praise.) إِنْ يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَأْتِ بِخَلْقٍ جَدِيد (If He will, He can be rid of you and bring (instead of you) some new creation.) ‎وَمَا ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ بِعَزِيزٖ (And that is not difficult for Allah) The verses encourage humility by recognising that you (the ego) are ultimately poor in the eyes of God. And that your life is not in your control. Which subsequently should encourage one to loosen the focus on the ego, to give up trying to control everything and to seek refuge and surrender in God. All of which cannot take place as long as the accumulated ideas, thoughts, memories, opinions, beliefs and material get in the way. All of this needs to drop and be fully submitted, to the extend where there is no ‘you’/ego, there is nothing but God. In regards to the prophets, as the pointings and teachings become distorted/misunderstood, they are there to re-guide people towards god. Now it doesn’t mean that all of the distorted religion/teachings become untrue. It may become increasingly difficult to follow, but ultimately if one truly and sincerely seeks the truth, one shall find it. God is not only for Islam, but Islam is there to recognise God. The verse I mentioned about God’s face being wherever you turn, if it was about the Qibla, why aren’t Muslims praying in every direction? Please elaborate on how Salah loses its meaning if God is non-dual? Please also mention what you feel is a superimposition onto Islam that isn’t mentioned in Islam already? I look forward to hearing back from you!

No, what I’m suggesting is simply that the way you ask the question already implies that God is unjust and cherry picks how things should go. This can’t be the case. Somebody tell that to “Hussain bin Mansoor “. Btw isn’t it fascinating that Islam after around 1000 years also reached the same conclusion as Hindus (Advait Vedānta to be specific ). Although it’s still different ! Because it’s much more liberal(I mean the Advait Vedānta that’s more liberal).

When I think of Oneness in Islam I go back to Allah & The Source of The Message. That's the Oneness. However Post-Islam, You have, Ayesha v Ali Sunni v Shia Believer v Non-Believer Islam Invasion of India Iran v Israel The History of Islam is Based On Severing Bloodlines from their Ancestors, Pitting Neighbours against Neighbours, Family Members Against Family Members. War for Material Gain With The War Cry of There is No God But God, And Mohammad Is The Messenger of God. This Is The Incendiary Statement At The Heart of The Muslim Dualistic Ideology Which Further Entrenches Its Dualistic Position By Compelling Its Adherents To Bow Down In The Direction of Mecca & Medina & Riyadh. non duality is a oneness of existence. in islam there is a separation between God and his creation and that is not a nonduality

If Islam is non-dual why is it so obscure and hardly anyone in the so-called religion even comes close to practising it or realising it? Islam stresses surrender to an external God so what you're saying is not true. This is just wishful thinking.

Most people are constantly busy building the walls of their farm to protect it rather than do the actual farming. Followers aside, nowhere is there a mention that God is indeed ‘external’.
@swayp5715
@swayp5715 3 ай бұрын
@@TheSpiritualWalksBut this fictional God is indeed taken as external by more than 99.9% of practitioners. So it is extremely poorly communicated by the text. They bow down in fear to it five times a day and haven't the faintest inkling that they are the very God they bow to. Why? Because of their lack of spiritual development which is held back by the very religion itself. Truly it is a great regressive force in the world. Almost a tragedy. And in it's very DNA is to spread itself by FORCE. By the exemplified example of the founder himself! But that fact too is never faced.

I’d suggest it is poorly understood and interpreted. But ultimately, it is human nature to pick and choose and not observe matters holistically.

I'm sorry hasan, but as a deep admirer of non-dualism, for its logical merits, I still choose not to believe in it. The creation and creator have independent existences, God is one only in his attributes and worthiness of worship, it cannot be shared with us. For the past 2 years I've been seeking unity with God, only to realize it is shirk. I am sad, and perhaps I always will be. I wanted to escape the game of life, this cycle of pain and pleasure. But I suppose there is no escape. We can only have faith and save ourselves from the hellfire and have hope in heaven

lets connect and have conversation? Q. What made you realise it is "shirk"? Q. How were you trying to seek unity to god and what challenges you faced and why you could not? There is a saying in non dual world, "before enlightenment, chop good carry water, after enlightenment, chop wood carry water". You cannot escape life and find peace, but you can accept it and be peaceful.

Where are you trying to escape to? And why are you sad? If God exists independently to us then how can got be One when there is a separate existence too? Nowhere does Islam mention that God is separate? It will mention that god has no partners and is not dependant.

Beautiful video as always but not very convincing. There is no such thing as « true Islam » or true anything else. There is only « real » Islam. And in real Islam God is an entity above and separate from humans, it cannot get more dualistic, can it? That God experiences wrath and mercy, all these being emotions of a dualistic entity. Oneness is about liberation, not about submission.

You’ll find various interpretations on this. But if you have a look at the Quran, the whole text is a non-dual expression. The idea that god is a separate entity is definitely ingrained from a very young age, which is absurd because the ‘real’ Islamic teachings indicate otherwise. At the end of the day, even the most non-dualistic linguistic expressions will present themselves as dualistic, it’s just the nature of language. But it certainly does not mean that dualistic expressions cannot point to non-duality.

Bro there is so much mental gymnastics done here. Ive never seen a religious muslim who believe hindus/budhists will go to heaven . Even though it is in these traditions meditation, enlightenment and non duality is the thing that is stressed. The core message of abrahamic religion isnt non duality. Also u r trying to insinuate oneness of God to be something thats important. Thats just reinforcing islamic blind belief. Budhists r atheists , hindus dont mind worshipping various Gods. So that isnt something of great importance for enlightenment. Islamic one god is probably the most divisive thing in the entire world along with judaism and Christianity's one god. Pls stop the mental gymanstics. Instead of making ur own co religionists understand that if what u r saying is corrects hindus/ budhists r not gonna be going to hell for eternity and they r likely right, u do mental gymanastics to claim islam is abt this.
