Knowledge is mandatory in order to be successful on the path to peace and happiness. But what type of knowledge? Is it secular knowledge such as the knowledge of math and science? Or is it the knowledge about how to meet the challenges that life presents to us such as the meaning of life, what is moral and what is not, what comes after death, etc. This lecture tackles the many important aspects of seeking knowledge and the attitude and understanding one must have to be successful in such an endeavor. Imam Mokhtar looks at the importance of seeking knowledge, the virtues of seeking knowledge, the three things that continue to benefit a person after death, the right intention in seeking knowledge, the four types of people seeking knowledge, the importance of women seeking knowledge, examples of women participating in society and seeking knowledge in early Islamic history, and learning wisdom at an early age. Other topics discussed: are women allowed to seek knowledge by going away to college alone?, the Islamic concept of freedom, and can women lecture at a conference where men are present?

The prophet sallullahu alaihi wasulam said, whoever takes a path upon which he seeks knowledge, then Allah makes the path to paradise easy for him. And indeed the angels lower their wings in approval to the one seeking knowledge. Indeed forgiveness is sought for the knowledgeable one by whom ever is in the heavens and whomever is in the earth, even the fish in the waters. And superiority of the scholar over the worshippers is like the superiority of the moon over the rest of the celestial bodies. Indeed the scholars are the heirs of the prophets, and the prophets do not leave behind dinar or dirham. The only legacy of the scholars is knowledge, so who ever takes from it, then he has indeed taken the most able share. Evidence At tirmidhi 2682 authenticated by shaikh albanee.
