Abdullah Hakim Quick is a great scholar and every African-American should pay close attention to the last names he lists that are not slave names around 46:43 (start at 45:30 to put it in context) when he speaks about the Melungeons who came to American after being persecuted in Spain for not believing in the Trinity. Also, you should read the book "MUSLIMS IN AMERICAN HISTORY" by Jerald Derks (which I believe he had a major part in researching). I love his style, for he is not offensive in his presentation, to non-Muslims and, having had classes with him, know he has been around the world and can back up everything he says!

"Islam" is an abstract concept, so can't be considered "peace". Peace is a behavior of individuals, who may or may not be peaceful. The "peace" within Islam is actually the "salam" that comes from "submission". I know, as a former Muslim convert, that the Qur'an says there is no compulsion in faith...but we all know clearly that empires expand and there were some historical instances of Islam being forced upon people.
